  5. I realize their pro careers have lots of resumé to be written yet, but at this point, are the careers of Oshie and Parise deemed to be failures? Between the two of them, they account for 0 Stanley Cups. I certainly don't think so - they are both exceptional players and teammates.
  6. I really like Providence's chances to pull off the upset tonight.
  7. He very well could be. There may be a recruit out there who tells him "I'm the one who will get you over the hump."
  8. Lots of talk this weekend about banners hanging from the rafters so I'm creating a new thread for something that's bothered me ever since REA opened: The NCAA championship banners that all display the Ben Brien logo and NOT the era-specific logo for when the championship was won. A new 2014-2015 NCHC Conference Champions banner will be raised to the rafters next fall. It will no doubt be the first without the Brien logo and instead display the interlocking ND logo. It's time to change these across the board, especially the NCAA championship banners. Sure, it looks nice and neat with all 7 banners displaying the same logo, but it's not historically accurate. And it's time to honor the past and change that, not slap the Brien logo (and it's a great one, don't get me wrong) on all 7 banners and call it a day. Someday new and much younger fans will look back and wonder about the history of the program, the jerseys, the coaches, and, yes, the "old" nickname and the logos. I'm sure a quick phone call to Chicago would result in permission to use the Blackhawk logo for 1980, 1982, and 1987, not to mention a few MacNaughton Cup Champions banners, so the rest of them, from the 1950's thru this season, should be a piece of cake. It's time, REA, and it's time, UND. Honor the history of all of the past logos and get them on brand-new banners.
  9. Most of "us" could have gotten some of these teams to the Frozen Four? Surely, you can't be serious. Most of the armchair hockey coaches here would have lost the team right after the 12 hour bag-skate that they ordered held at REA immediately following the 5-1 season-opening loss to Bemidji State!
  10. Good points. Hey, aren't you the guy who always says "that's why they play the games," though?
  11. 2000: North Dakota 2001, 2008, 2010, 2012: BC (Notre Dame, Ferris State) 2002 and 2003: Minnesota (Maine, UNH) 2004 and 2005: Denver 2006: Wisconsin 2007: Michigan State 2009: Boston U (Miami) 2011: UMD (Michigan) 2013: Yale (Quinnipiac) 2014: Union If Providence can beat BU tomorrow, despite BC's dominance and back-to-back titles by both DU and Minnesota, the Friars would become the 11th different program to win a national championship in the last 16 seasons. In addition to that, 7 different schools competed in that championship game and lost (schools listed in parentheses) in those 16 seasons. In all, 18 different teams have competed in the NCAA hockey championship game since 2000. That's almost 1/3 of the teams that actually play college hockey.
  12. I can tell you what worked wonders for Eaves in 2006: having a regional AND the Frozen Four in Wisconsin. Hmnnn...come to think of it, that worked out quite nicely for Don Lucia in 2002 too in Minnesota. And with all due respect, Rick Comley was about to be run out of East Lansing before stumbling into that 2007 miracle-run title.
  13. So as long as Dean Blais is the coach, losing in a regional final to the eventual champion (2004 Denver) is acceptable, but with Hakstol (2013 Yale), it's an embarrassment?
  14. BU could very well lose tomorrow night with Eichel in the lineup, yes. John Gillies is no slouch in goal for PC.
  15. Chris Collins, Brian Boyle, Nathan Gerbe, Stephen Gionta, Cory Schneider...yea, those 2006 and 2007 BC teams had some real scrubs on their roster, didn't they?
  16. If only Michigan had Brendan Morrison and Marty Turco on their '97 team...quick, name ONE player from BU that year without googling the roster.
  17. In the last home game of the season. Ouch!
  18. 40 years from now, will some folks STILL be asking what Ralph Engelstad would want if he were alive? Good grief.
  19. If Jack Eichel had been wearing a North Dakota jersey this season, odds are Brian Jones could have had them playing in tomorrow night's game. On the flip-side, if Eichel or even Rodrigues takes a puck to a kneecap in the last game of the regular season, does Quinn still get BU to the Frozen Four?
  20. 40 years? I'd say THIS was a pretty rough stretch for a couple of coaches...
  21. 21 seasons of hockey, 5 NCAA titles, and 6 years of what I would very-much-so call "down years." 6 out of 21, almost 1/3 of that stretch was this: 87-88: 21-20-1 91-92: 17-21-1 92-93: 12-25-1 93-94: 11-23-1 94-95: 18-18-3 95-96: 19-18-1 Don't get me wrong, 5 titles in that stretch is amazing, absolutely amazing. But to say there were no lean years or "not very many" is revisionist history.
  22. That's 1984-85 thru 2003-2004. Sorry, but having attended UND from 1988-1992 and having seen home games in the 1993-1995 time span, I'd hardly say I was witnessing the "flat out best team in college hockey" over a good 7 years of that stretch you're throwing out there.
  23. No thanks. I already had my heart ripped out of my chest twice last night as I was dumb enough to watch the late-night replay last night/this morning.
  24. Will Cooperalls be back in style in 2045?
  25. Did you sit down and compare W-2's with him at lunch today?
