Any idea who is going to be the starter this year? Or who the coaches are looking towards? I would think Landry would get the nod since he's a Jr.

Isn't there other conferences out there besides the Summitt like the Big Sky. If UND is almost not going to get into the Summitt because of their name like you say wouldn't UND be knocking on the door of other conferences? But since there are no other campus visits by the Summitt besides USD i would think UND isn't worried.

After reading the article in the GF Herald i found it nice that people went out and voted in their Sioux jerseys, shirts and hats not only for the vote but because they love the name and thats what they wear. Has anyone heard of any responces on campus from teachers who teach at a school whose name they don't like? We should tell the Spirit Lake that in exchange for the Sioux name for many years (more than 50) that GF would add a casino kinda like what the Turtle Lake Chippewa wanted to do. Its just a thought. We could do one for the Standing Rock if they vote yes for the name. One other question....any comment from Myles Brand, or the Summitt League President?

How long do you think before we get results of the voting on the Spirit Lake Tribe today.

Cannonball District we thank you for your support. Maybe after the voting results on the Spirit Lake we can get all 8 districts to support the name. I bet ol Ronny thought this wasn't gonna happen on his rez.

I think UND really got screwed in reguards to the court trial. UND has to get approval from 2 tribes instead of 1 like Central Michigan. CMU got approval to the closest tribe for UND it would have been the Spirit Lake. Secondly i never heard that any of these other schools, FSU, CMU, Utah, etc... have permanent use of their name unlike UND where one tribe changes their mind at anytime and the name is gone. So the NCAA did a number on the Sioux nickname court trial. Of course our Attorney General didn't do squat for UND.

I just saw the news report on the news and can't believe that the anti-nickname people are so scared they are trying to fight this even though its on the ballot. Is it because for once on the rez majority may actually rule. I actually don't like the looks of this. I see the voting process disruptive, and fixed, and violence breaking out. This could get very ugly. Thank you NCAA!

This is such good news, i bet Ron His Horse Is Thunder will do what he can to deny his people the right to vote. But on another issue: Say the votes go through and the Sioux are allowed to keep the name how are the Sioux (UND) going to make sure this stays permanent. Per the lawsuit the tribes can change their mind at anytime. Can you imagine the Sioux about to play in the West Regional at the Ralph and then one of the tribes change their mind. That would be devastating. Also if we keep the name are we still banned from playing Minnesota? Or would they lift their ban.

I am sure this will pass but make Ron His Horse Is Thunder(with people overlooking him) read every yes vote on the nickname then lets here him say native americans are against the nickname.

Gee could NDSU being in the tournament have something to do with this?? IF NDSU lost to Oakland we would still be without channel 4.

I like the uniforms too bad the Sioux logo couldn't replace the ND's on the sleeves. But with the name change thing the Sioux logo is slowly disappearing. The big question I have is are the Sioux hockey team going to have new uniforms with just North Dakota on the front and no Sioux logo like in 1993 when they got rid of the Blackhawk logo??

Well didn't Central Mich only get permisson from the tribes of Michigan and not of the Chippewa tribes of Wisconsin or Ohio or Minnesota. So i would think the NCAA would grant this to UND if they got permission from only the TMBC. Of course its the NCAA and we know how Myles Brand thinks.

I know that Davidson did good in the NCAA basketball tournament.

I think UND could work a deal also GF could work out a deal with the TMBC, like a casino built in the city for use of the nickname and hopefully work out a long term agreement so they can't change it. Now if say we were the ND Fighting Chippewas..would Minnesota still have the ban on us?? And the Summitt League.

Since their high school there is called the Belcourt Braves i wouldn't think they have total disagreement on indian nicknames. That's what i don't get why do some (Ron His Horse Is Thunder) so against Indian nicknames being used but they use them at schools on the reservation...Mandan Braves, Warroad Warriors, Belcourt Braves, Four Winds Indians.

I have thought of that too remember when they wanted to put a casino in Grand Forks. I think UND should ask the tribal council of the Turtle Mtn Chippewa too look at that idea and see how many people support it. But would the NCAA make us get support from other Chippewa tribes of the region like White Earth, Red Lake, or Leech Lake?? If approved we can schedule a game with Central Michigan and it can be the Chippewas vs the Chippewas, and as part Chippewa I would be honored...for some season tickets i would be more honored LOL!!!

I agree, we don't need the Big 10 or the Mac which NDSU likes to play. We have the Big 12. Lets see if we can schedule the SEC or the ACC too. UND vs Florida St. Wouldn't that be a fun matchup for native americans everywhere.

That leaves 9 other teams in the Big 10 including Illinois, so lets schedule them.

I was worried that this would happen when the NCAA said they needed 2 tribes instead of 1 since the Spirit Lake Tribe in a way has been more favoriable to the name than the Standing Rock. So i think we are only going to get 1 out of the 2 tribes support. And its not enough. And since Ron the @ss hole thunder is still in charge, there won't be a vote on the Standing Rock because he knows they would side with the nickname and that would make him look like the goon that he is. But i give a lot of credit to the Spirit Lake for trying to get a vote across they have my respect.
