What we need now is Dave Hakstol to come out and say its time to continue to retire the name. Either fans will accept it or else hang him in the penalty box.

After 2012-2013 season you won't be waiting for a Gopher game. How big was the line for a UND-Northern Michigan game in 88-89 or a UND-CC game. Not that long.

Whatever the name is I will always be a fan of North Dakota athletics. I support the green and white. If they are the no-names hey been there done that (GFC). Its not worth throwing away sports just for one name and logo. If UND had the old logo the geometric Indian head would there still be this much outcry?? I know a lot of people were mad when the Blackhawk logo was retried from President Baker but what if this current logo that Brien made didn't exist. Would there be petitions? Is it more the logo than the name?

I remember getting ice level tickets to a UND hockey game in the mid 80's without reserving it just walking up asking for a seat close to the ice and boom. Half the arena was empty.

With new sanctions and a new hockey conference attendance may suffer..oh wait without football, basketball, and volleyball...there will be nothing else to do in GF but go to a hockey game. Of course they could see DI football and basketball and volleyball in Fargo.

I think Hakstol needs to talk about this issue. Hockey fans idolize him because he voiced his opinion on the nickname now without Minny and Wisconsin on the slate after next season what next? Just think how the interlocking uniforms will look on the road to the frozen four will look with just the name North Dakota in the programs and on the PA system. Only at home will the "Sioux" jerseys and the name be seen and heard. I think its sad that the women's team would have to move the game to Fargo instead of playing at home for the playoffs.

I want those on the Spirit Lake to voice their opinion on keeping the name vs not having a sports team to show it off on. Its going to get to that point..and for what? So UND can be the Fighting Sioux. Yet no football, no basketball, no volleyball. Might as well cancel the IPF thoughts, close the Alerus Center. It doesn't make sense.

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. OMG you think the MVFC is going to take us?? They didn't take us when South Dakota was accepted. They said they don't want another team. So until one of their members leave the MVFC won't be knocking on UND's door. I thought I have heard it all but this....this takes the cake!

UND did win the National Title in 1959 as an Independent.

But why do something to see if it comes true or not...as they say there is always a first.

Kentucky isn't on the outskirts of their conference and was a member of the SEC since it started in 1932. UND is all by itself in location and is the newest member along with Cal Poly, UC Davis and SUU to join. Big difference. Its hard to expell a team that has been there for over 50 years (your example of UK in the 80's) and a team that isn't a full member until July 1st.

Would you prefer the UND Flame logo?

What if UND does what it did back in the 1920's.. Have a nickname but not refer its sports teams to it. In the 20's they were the Flickertails but its sports teams were just UND or the Nodaks. No flickertail on its jerseys no flickertail logos. Fast forward to 2012. UND Fighting Sioux. But Interlocking ND logo and just North Dakota as its name with no nickname like before the petitions were turned in. UND is the Fighting Sioux but cannot use the logo on the jerseys or be called that. Kind of like how Bradley is the Braves but has no Indian logo or Indian reference except Braves. I know its a long shot but hey anything is possible.

Has anyone thought of this.....could the Tribal Council of Spirit Lake hold a vote of just their council and unapprove the use of the nickname? Even thought it would create an outrage of supporters on their reservation. There is no 30 year deal its just an approval because the tribe voted...couldn't the tribal council unapprove it?

What they need to do is have a secret ballot and see where all the presidents stand. If the "unoffical" vote is unanimous then UND has a huge problem.

What are they waiting for? Just stop this whole legislation thing and tell the state we controll this matter. The name is being retired at our (and the NCAA's) request. Game over. I just don't get it.

Texas A&M bought out their game with McNeese State for Sept 1st.....It would be great if UND bought out SD Mines and replaced it with McNeese State.

Just ask Indiana, PA. They had to change their Indians name and logo...It is ALL NCAA divisions not just DI.

Or talk the BSC teams into getting baseball back.

I wonder if Terry Wanless would talk the Sac St president in keeping UND?
