Been going to games since I was 8 years old, so I’ve been contributing for 34 years. My son will be attending UND starting fall of 2019 so our first Fighting Hawk in the family.

Not football only but UND sports only. I follow more than just one sport. And since the Fighting Hawks is the school nickname I accept it and will cheer the name.

I’m surprised that idiot Douple didn’t when UNC and UND were trying to find baseball homes, I understand why they passed on us, but why pass on UNC especially at that time they needed a team to keep autobids.

I thought Idaho was our so called replacement. But to even out of the number of teams make they can get a Washington team to move up like Central or Western.

We didn’t have the one tribal approval because of what was agreed in the settlement. http://diverseeducation.com/article/4678/ this was the reason UND went to court in 2005, Spirit Lake wasn’t on board until it was too late and Standing Rock was brought into the picture.

Nothing they can do, we needed TWO tribal approvals per the settlement with the NCAA, as Wayne Stenjeum agreed too. Call him or the folks at Fort Yates if you are unclear how it worked.

Gross generalizations? You mean you don’t believe our non hockey sports was headed into trouble by keeping the Sioux name when it was documented by Dale Lennon, Tom Douple, South Dakota State Athletics, and even Big Sky commissioner Fullerton? Or the part that I said hockey only fans didn’t care about sanctions seeing it would only hurt Sioux hockey during the NCAA tournament and not being able to play Big 10 schools.

I’m a GFC alum, I thought this would be a down year as they lost a lot of firepower from their undefeated season last year but they only reloaded and looks tough.

Nickname was gone when AG Wayne Stenjeum agreed to two tribal approvals including Standing Rock who was vocal about dumping the name, especially from Ron His Horse is Thunder.

I haven’t heard that one. I know the last Sioux logo won just one national title and that was the 2001 football team. It took the Fighting Hawks name to finally bring a national title to the REA. Because names and logos have that much power.

I see it when I go on the UND hockey Facebook page, when I type Go Fighting Hawks, you would’ve thought I was a die hard Gophers fan. For some people it’s Fighting Sioux or nothing, I like the people who blame the name and logo for UND’s subpar hockey season. Those people are a riot.
