I think Hanson should be the starter. Start him in the preseason game against SDSoM and that should work out any first game jitters before our season starts against PSU.

I think its sad to say we are more known for our nickname contraversey than our sports teams.

So any team that changes their name and or logo is selling their soul...so just this year the now Miami Marlins (with a new logo) sold their soul so they can move out of Sun Life Stadium and into a park of their own? The Washington Wizards sold their soul when they changed their name from the Bullets? Stanford from Indians to Cardinals? All because of marketing? Just think Stanford and Dartmouth would have to change their name now if they still had Indians as their nickname because of NCAA sanctions. Do you think marketing the Fighting SIoux name and logo is going to help UND when they can't schedule games (or have games cancelled..ex. Iowa Track meet)? Is marketing going to help when UND cannot sell those jerseys or shirts with the name on them at NCAA tournaments? Is marketing going to make up for lost revenue at the Alerus Center because our team if they are good enough to make the playoffs play all the playoff games on the road? Look at the $$$ of the future. If we get booted out of the BSC and have to field DII/NAIA teams or drop football or basketball because there is no conference home is marketing going to save our athletic department?

Exactly. We actually won hockey titles with different types of logos on the jerseys. Only 3 of them (80,82,87) was with the Blackhawk logo. 1997 was the geometric logo 59 and 63 was just the word Sioux on it. UND football doesn't have logos except the interlocking ND...so current logo has zero National Titles. I think UND can survive if the logo and name is changed.

Compared to Landry in 2010. Bradley's Arm was better than Landry but accuracy is what hurt him.

We need more than one of those. We need deep passes as well as short ones. Gotta keep the defense guessing. Thats what hurt us last year everyone knew what kind of passes we were going to throw. Of course we need a passer that has accuracy and I think that was Bradley's problem early last year. Good arm but not accurate. Hanson could be the guy to get it done!! He has one shot left and you know he is going to make the best of it.

Then hopefully the average Joe will say to himself, "why didn't they quit after the 2010 deadline..damn you Al Carlson"

If I could steer this ugly ship away from iceberg infested waters: If the people vote yes to dump the name and logo...will those other petitions show their ugly head? They need what 27,000 signitures or something like that?

Being a fan means supporting your school. If your school wants to retire the name you go along with it no matter what the situations are. I will always be a fan of Grand Forks Central, just because they were no longer the Redskins didn't mean I would be no longer a fan. I will be a fan of UND no matter what they are called. Yes we all agree the NCAA is very much corrupt but unless congress or the US Supreme Court (someone above the NCAA) steps in against them there is nothing that can be done.

I just got an email back from President Kelley, in my letter I told him if he would go against the state law since there is no said penalty or if the NCAA could sanction the state...here is his response: Looks like whatever the Board tells him to do he has to do it, and not to do anything other than what the board says.

You are correct I was stating what was on the minds of an Aztec player or coach. They don't care about our nickname situation. As for faith in this team....anything can happen. I would not be shocked if we lose, but would be estatic if we win.

The bad thing is that ND will not be educated enough to care about this issue. You will have NDSU fans thinking this is a great way to kill UND athletics. You have the die hard to the end SIoux fans voting yes, the SAB people and the NCAA haters voting to stick it to the NCAA. Too many groups to see where people stand on this issue.

So you like blaming people in the past, you wanna blame UND back in 1930 for even thinking of renaming the team the Sioux? How about blaming the SR tribal council in 1969 for having a pipe ceremony, how about blaming the US government for creating reservations for Indians keeping them separate from everyone else. Just keep it simple...blame the NCAA, and Al Carlson.

Since UND is under the direction of the SBoHE it wasn't their choice to change the name, so again it was the SBoHE's decision to keep it not UND's. UND right now is under the direction of the SBoHE and they are under the direction of the state law. See where the food chain is: State Law SBoHE UND However......NCAA trumps all three!

I re-read a thread that was started on Feb. 21st, 2011 when the House Bill was first passed. I was more worried about UND losing its DI status or having it postponed come July 1st than anything else. Any idea if that is a possibility??

Aces is one guy who says he is getting his friends and family to vote to keep the name to spite UND athletics. There are more people like him out there that are NOT on Bisonville.

I crizicize any citizen who wishes to destroy the athletic department of my favorite school. Whether they attend UND, NDSU, Mary, Minot State, or even Lake Region

The Aztecs don't want to play the Sioux. Yeah doesn't sound right. I think SDSU could care less what we are called. To them we are just a DI win in their bowl run.

If those people vote yes to keep the name they are punishing UND. As I said before its like being an accessory to a crime. They are telling UND I will help you break the NCAA law by voting yes.

Even if does seem far fetched you do know its spreading all over Bisonland like a wildfire. If not people wouldn't talk about it. People are scared at the SU and that is why some are thinking of ways to discredit it. If this reaches Gene Taylor or Craig Bohl and most likely with the internet and word of mouth it may I bet some phone calls will be made to the NCAA to see if they really would do this. IMO as good as NDSU was in their title run...home field helped them greatly. Imagine playing at JMU, and GSU.

I do know what is at stake that is why I am against keeping the name and logo. And if was restricted to just UND alumns I do have lots of classmates that are UND alumns that I would gladly share my 2 cents with and tell them to vote no on the measure.
