Classy and well spoken. Thanks for contributing to the conversation.

Oh I apologize, exactly which positive aspect of UND’s current situation would you like to discuss? You are about the thinnest skinned crew on the internet if my comments are considered trolling here. You’re own ilk has said tons worse about JJ. But my comments are too much, got it.

I know it’s a novel concept given the vitriol on most boards, but yes. I like conversations about football, crazy I would come to a site to do just that.

The dude came in with massive excitement and the expectation of making an immediate impact, those weren’t my expectations they were all of yours. Given that he hasn’t been a game changer this year, is it not a fair question to ask if he is expected to take on a larger role or is he not the player YOU ALL expected. If you don’t believe me just look back at the JJ posts from when it was first announced. There was talk of him being enough of an impact player that the coaches would move Santiago to receiver.

It’s not really that early in the football season anymore. After this week we’re closer to the end than the beginning.

Seriously? You must make a real effort every day to view the world with such negativity. In what world could my comment be viewed as anything but taking it at face value? Sheesh

Is johanneson(sp) expected to take on a larger role or is he not finding his way at UND the way people expected?
-
And the projected starter at QB will be the transfer from Sac St?
-
Is Harris expected to return?

Seems like most here see 2017 as a lost year, may play out differently, but that seems to be the tone here. That said, looking ahead to 2018, what are the major losses to graduation and what will the projected two deep look like? Is 2018 a rebuilding year or is there an opportunity to make a run?

Another thing to keep in mind is it’s rare for NFL athletes to not seek out their own trainers based on their perceived needs. College athletes all work with the same trainer with that trainer working hard to have each position group having a position specific program with some “personalization” built in. In the NFL, the players less often work out as a team even during the season. So the trainer you know may be the type who players seek out if they need strength gains, while they would go to someone else if they had speed needs or injury prevention needs as an example. I know of at least 3 gyms in the Eden Prairie area where Vikings players workout there regularly and all of them have very different training philosophies.
-
I’m not familiar with their particular methods for training, but would imagine it is similar to what they experienced while at NDSU. I believe it’s Cole Jirik and Christian Dudzik running that place. Given how each of those dudes played, I would imagine speed work is something they know a lot about.
-
Of the hundreds of changes that have become best practices in S and C that could be mentioned here, one of the largest that I’ve seen across all athlete specific programs is a higher emphasis on unilateral training. Makes a ton of sense as the physical load on the body in an athletic setting is rarely symmetrical. Kettlebells have sort of made a comeback in the last ten years too, so that’s interesting that they were big when you played.
-
Strength and conditioning has changed a lot in the last 20 years. Changed from mass gains to explosiveness. Strength has a ton of value on the football field, but not nearly as valuable as power. I have no doubt that UND’s S and C team is training your athletes in a way that is up to speed with that change in philosophy.

I agree UND has bigger problems, but given USD’s status as a historical rival and a program that given their circumstances(transitioned at the same time as UND, brand new coaching staff and other similarities) UND fans likely see USD as a measuring stick of sorts. I know I looked at SDSU in a similar way when we transitioned up together.
-
D2? They couldn’t make the North Dakota 9 man playoffs.
-
Mississippi valley and Robert Morris each have as many FCS playoff wins as UND, so I’d give you guys a 50/50 shot in those games.
-
Agreed, but some of that is opportunity to look good too. NDSU’s schedule hasn’t been conducive to give any impressive performances yet.
-
I can’t help but wonder if you’d see it through a different lense if USD being an elite team this year didn’t in the smallest way give your loss to them a little positive spin. I do the same with my team’s losses, you end up cheering for the team that beat you a bit because it makes your loss look better. eg, would’ve been bummed if JMU didn’t win it all last year as it would have made our loss lllk worse
-
Of course that happens, but there is a massive chasm between letting off the gas and giving up a touchdown or two and what happened yesterday. USD couldn’t move the ball at all and their defense was exposed. They gave up 27 unanswered points and had roughly 35 yards of total offense for a quarter and a half, that’s more than letting off the gas a bit if you ask me. Maybe I’m wrong, good news is it’ll all play itself out.
-
I realize you’d like to make your loss to USD be to the eventual MVFC champion so it makes UND’s embarrassing loss look better, but elite teams don’t give up 28 unanswered points.
-
Did you watch the game? USD was completely shut down for 25 minutes, they got one first down and gave up 28 unanswered points. They were dominated, for almost two full quarters. You call that whatever you want, I call that finding a weakness and exploiting it aka a blueprint.
-
Whatever WIU did for the last quarter and a half against USD may just have shown a blueprint to beating USD. USD’s offense screeched to a halt and they gave up nearly 450 yards passing. Lucky to get out of there with a win.
-
We all may need to pump the breaks on the USD train...call it letting off the gas by USD if you like, but 21 unanaswered by WIU and 3 straight drives without a first down here from USD would have me concerned if I was a USD fan heading into Valley play.
