  1. I'm not going to say where, but I know a lot (at least two) of bars in the Minneapolis area who seem to have both commercial Dish/Direct AND have a "residential" receiver. I don't know if they switch them out when need be to watch certain events, but I know I have seen it!
  2. If there is an upset in the first round, there will be reseeding, so... maybe only two games in two days! Think positive...
  3. Those days are gone (but the memories live on) and were replaced by things like The Antique (flooded away, but not forgotten) and Jason Blake and sweeping the #1 ranked Gophers at home when we were "nobodys" (circa 1996 I think) and everything has looked up from there. Today, Sioux fans are filled with the memories of a little guy named Karl Goehring and the Panzers and Hoogsteins and Bochenski and Parise (Act I) and how we all will never forget Matt Henderson and that 1997 team that came seemingly out of nowhere to reclaim the pride of the Sioux and make us (and Ralph) remember what it means to be a Sioux. We miss you and your kind and hope you will continue to store the memories of the Sioux teams that came after and the ones that are yet to come.
  4. I just checked the PWR on USCHO. Miami won tonight as well as Michigan State but - if the PWR is up to date - UND dropped in the PWR. ?! I am no math wizard, but using some of the formulaectomy on this thread, didn't such a scenario predict UND moving up in the PWR. God this is confusing. I got in "A" in both Business Math and Statistics in college and I am baffled at the inner workings of the PWR. Yes, I understand the comparisons and the TUC formula, but it seems sort of counterintuitive at times. Can anyone confirm if the PWR/TUC is up to date after tonights game and, if so, explain why UND dropped with these two wins by former opponents?
  5. That answers my question to an extent. However, regarding the (if we play) St. Cloud wins and losses and the following "rule" of RPI: "If a team defeats a weak opponent, it is possible for its RPI to go down despite the win. Starting in 2003-04, if this happens in a team's conference tournament, that game can be thrown out of the RPI calculation for that team. Any team where this has occured has been noted with an asterisk beside their RPI." One... the play-in should still count as the "Conference Tournament" under this rule and... Two... if we beat St. Cloud and, again, under the "rule," we can't drop in RPI. However, can it drop if we lose 1 of 3 to St. Cloud under the "rule." A strict reading would seem to point to yes, but a rationale reading of it would say no. Is it too early to start drinking?
  6. There has to be some mathematical genius who can make a "what if" for the remaining games in the regular season and conference tournaments so we can project who will make it (i.e. what it will take for the Sioux to make it!) to the National Tournament. A "what if" that takes into account TUC and RPI and gives us a final "what if" PWR for us to drool over. As a legally trained technician (i.e. attorney) I am TERRIBLE at both math and statistics. Is there anyone out there with the IQ, know how, and time to help us idiots out? PLEASE!!!!
  7. FYI... if you put in .006 and .004 and .002 for the bonus, UND ends up in 14th!
  8. Me either. Friggin' dataflix.

OK. Now I understand (and agree). When you said "going anywhere" you were being like a typical Sioux fan - and I am one too - who measures success mostly in the form of Conference and National Championships. If this is what you meant - agreed! We will probably eek into the national tournament and maybe even win a first round game (despite being at home!) and bow out in the next. However, if - and this is a BIG "if" - if JPar continues to get just a little more confidence in each game as it progresses and we get an early lead, I think we have the "ability" [read as "potential talent on roster as indicated by past performance at their respective game prior to coming to UND and recruiting rankings] to play with anyone one on one... except for maybe the Gophs and Badgers.

I hope your reasoning was a joke? Because we lost to the "upper echelon" teams in the WCHA, this team isn't going anywhere? Did you happen to compare those "upper echelon teams in the WCHA" to the rest of the teams in the country. If you do, you may as well conclude that no one other than the "upper echelon teams in the WCHA" are going anywhere because those two particular teams are probably better than the rest of the country combined. It is OK to have an opinion, but that was probably the worst factual or evidentiary support for an opinion I have ever heard. Say we lost to AA. Say we lost 3 of 4 to St. Cloud. But come on... don't pin your opinion on us losing to UW and U of M!
  11. It just seems counterintuitive to see that we have a better RPI, winning percentage, a winning record (i.e. see many .500 teams and lower - see Ohio State - and, in some instances, a tougher schedule, and we still suffer simply because we have lost some games to some non TUC WCHA teams that are dragging us - unfairly I might add - into the bubble or worse category. We really need to push the KRACH thing more as I have been saying for years. I would even go for a (god help me for saying this) BCS type system where we take into account polls and RPI and KRACH (which has a better SOS component) and "when" you lose your games. Maybe bitter, but it just seems odd that a better than average Sioux team will miss the tourney due to the presence of auto bids (which I can live with) and some less than average teams who have won the "right" games during the year...
  12. Not to be "that guy" tonight, but with Miami losing as well as Harvard... and us playing UMD... is it possible that we just "hover" at the end of the night when the PRW comes out? Hope to move up, but don't think so given the circumstances...
  13. I heard there would be not math, but... Even if UND swept Duluth, split with Denver and swept tech and played two games with a TUC team in the playoffs (and assuming we win that series) and won one game at the final 5, wouldn't that put our RPI above the team we played in the playoffs and probably get us into the tourny. I know it is the ultimate "what if" situation, but by looking at the numbers in an overall fashion, I think that would be enough to get us in barring an upset in the other conference tournaments. Am I wrong?
  14. I'll pay for the copy and the shipping and your time! I asked for this tape/DVD a year ago and no one responded. Email me at harveyskees@hotmail.com and we can make the arrangements. In fact, and if you have it handy, email all other games you have that you can transfer onto DVD and send and I will pick the games I want and you can tell me how much you want for your work and trouble. I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks. Signed, 1995 UND and 1998 UND - School of Law grad and lifetime Sioux hocky FAN and SUPPORTER!
  15. And the answer is... "If a team defeats a weak opponent, it is possible for its RPI to go down despite the win. Starting in 2003-04, if this happens in a team's conference tournament, that game can be thrown out of the RPI calculation for that team." - USCHO (Source)
  16. I hate that my audio is like 60 seconds behind these posts!
  17. Amen brother... preach on! We shook all the stank off of them and they are now our new good luck charm. Kinda like that Tiki doll that Greg Brady found while surfing in the "Brady Bunch Goes to Hawaii" episodes. Did I mention I was drinking?
  18. I wasn't "present" last night. I don't know of any college - NCAA anway- goalies scoring goals, but I know in the NHL, the following goalies have scored goals (and there may be more but alcohol and... ah... what was I talking about): 1) Ron Hextall (actually shot the puck the length of the ice to score a goal and I think he did it again in a playoff game); 2) Martin Brodeur; 3) Chris Osgood; and 4) Jose Theodore
  19. I used to get sick like that at altitude also. My decathlon coach would have me make mix a concoction (with dr approval of course... don't want to peeve off big brother AAU athletics or the NCAA drug testers) of benadryl (anti-nausea), low strength aspirin (thins the blood), Vitamin D tablets (apparently stabilizes inner ear at high altitudes?), ibuprofin (again, some type of inner ear/cranium anti-inflammation reason) and good old Mountain Dew (for caffiene which offsets some of the drowsiness of the benadryl). Gotta say it worked like a charm. Within a couple of hours of taking it I could go from not being able to walk straight and feeling like I was going to fall over or puke to being completely normal. I haven't looked at the NCAA guidelines in a while to see if this is still Kosher, but if it is, maybe he should try it? Feel free to forward this email to anyone who can reach him!
  20. I think the decision in the current case involved two main points... 1) Was the search voluntary; and 2) Was the search in violation of equal protection. First, just because you enter the establishment (i.e. REA), you may be saying "Yea, you can search me and... if you find something you don't want me to bring in... you can take it... but don't use it against me for use in a criminal proceeding." Moreover, if you are using "public" persons to do this (i.e. peace officers, etc.), make sure those persons know that they are only there for the purpose of upholding the REA's rules. That makes a difference. Second, if you want to search people... search EVERYONE... not just students. For if you only search students, you are... as I think the ND Supreme Court was trying to get at... you better have a better excuse or justification. Remember, it is against the REA rules to bring in outside drinks, food, etc., for anyone. However, if you only harp on students, you are being selective in you enforcement and such enforcement is being accomplished by a state actor. Therefore, tread lightly. The result... search everyone or no one upon entry and have the cops arrest and sieze evidence only upon those items being found in the open once inside the REA. That way, it affects those students and non-students alike!
  21. They are only being classy now. In the highly unlikely event that we would lose today (and I am giving that about a 1 in 10,000 odds right now since we are a team of destiny right now), you can bet that Gopher post 101 - #1 on this or any other board will have the words "Sioux" and "choke" in it... but I will keep my fingers crossed on one hand, and have one finger ready to lift on the other!
  22. Yes and no. I hope that answers your question...
  23. As an attorney who KNOWS that law and practices almost exclusively in the area of criminal law, the answer is BOTH. Sexual Assault is assault. An illegal act in hockey can be an assault [see Bertuzzi, McSorley, etc.] and punishable as a crime. And, if so, could also be a violation of his probation. Therefore, it is both relevant to hockey and relevant to his past crime. Moreover, BOTH would be admissible as evidence at a trial (called Spreigl evidence) or for arguments for an upward setencing departure should he ever do this again even if was never even charged with a crime relating to this hit. I have said enough...
  24. Get in a cab and say "Uptown" (which is where I live) and then go to Chino Latino or William's or the Independent... lots of scenery for young and old alike!
