If UND let's Rylan torch em like he did at the Ralph last yr., getting any points will not happen.
-
^^^^^^…here is the explanation and answer to this series UND generally struggles in Springs. More than 2 points is a bonus. Less than 2 points..."it's still early!" IMO Berry needs to show why he was hired in these next 3 weekends.
-
My feeling is Schmaltz is going to be really good. He isn't physical...yet. Might not ever be? He seems to have good awareness. When you compare him vs our other Dman, he is pretty solid w the puck and make good decisions. He is a Fr. too...let's not forget that.

UND really has had a tought schedule to date, but has thrown away a couple of wins as well. The next 3 weeks are going to be just as tough...at CC, DU, at MTU. 3-3 I would take in a heartbeat based on what I have seen from this team to date. That would put UND at 9-7-2 going into the Christmas break with what should be 2 wins vs. Holy Cross coming right after the break. 11-7-2 thru the 1st week in January and then 2nd half surge? Not the record I would have expected going into the CC series at home but it is on par for what we have seen during Hak's tenure.

I'll take a shot at this based on years played at the college level, prodution coming into the season, their actual talent/skill set and hype. For veterans that I think carry the water very night...Kristo, Simpson, Easy Mac and Forbort, Pattyn. Those veterans who have played ok, but I know could play better...Mac, Mattson and Knight (he just doesn't seem himself especially when he played half of last season on one foot). Veterans that need a really jump start...ODonnell, Rodwell, Gleason, Rowney...the 1st 2 have big time talent, but... The last 2 here are head scratchers for me. Parks is a HUGE substraction from the lineup...our most physical forward IMO and a beast along the walls. He owns the puck down low. 1st year players show what they have got in streaks and all need to get more consistent but I like what I see in St. Clair, Cagguila, and Schmaltz. Rocco is the wildcard...supreme talent, but 2 of 5 goals are in garbage time...ENG and last night's goal. Has hit a ton of pipes. Most electric player at UND since Spirko IMO. I think he is just misfit...Drake and Colton are good but not on his level. On an opposite wing with Danny and it's lights out. IF he really gets it going I think that is when this team turns the corner...unless defensively we play this way all year which I hope is not the case.

I'm with you...very frustrating. Obviously if a team plays a neutral zone trap against us we are screwed.
-
Heard first hand from someone in the know within the athletic department that was also around during Berry's 1st stint that he is very, very, very patient w the players..."almost to a fault" was the quote.
-
The total lack of grasping whatever D system Berry is putting in place is what is alarming...6 weeks in and not much has changed. He was brought in for a specific reason yet that seems to be be our biggest weakness to date. Didn't think it would this much of struggle defensively at this point. Not surprised by Zane's play tonight...young, on the road vs. good team that wanted a win badly. He isn't Clark...yet.
-
And the tackling is horrific too...oops wrong thread!
-
SOG people...SOG!!! A team can't give up +/- 40 a game and win consistently...regardless if not many are grade A chances. Berry needs to tighten the screws! Just south of 160 SOG the past 2 weekends is not Sioux hockey.
-
Glad to Simpson in the lineup though. Last CFB he took looked ugly. But least they got the interference call shortly after that...
-
I hope someone gets nasty if we get another CFB w no call again. Let Pattyn serve the notice enuf is enuf!
-
UND is winning w very good goaltending despite poor D and timely goal scoring due to great individual plays. IMO that isn't a sustainable recipe for consistent winning. We need to tighten up on D and regain our presence in the offensive zone to have a chance in 45 minutes.
-
Zane is a young quality goalie who IMO should be a spot relief guy for Clark at this point. After playing nightly for Huntsville will little chance to win and facing 40+ SOG I doubt Clark is going to get worn down being this team's go to guy.
-
Wow...surprised by that.
-
Clark was huge last pm to steal one IMO. He'll have to be even better for UND to get the sweep. Paging Rocco...paging Rocco!
-
If we get outshot 2-1 again today, it will be an Irish blowout. UND, no pun intended, is skating on thin ice with it's lack off offensive puck possession and overall poor defensive play. Good win yesterday but this type play is not conducive to continual winning. Hands down Clark is our MVP to date.
-
I wouldn't mind seeing the General set things straight if things get chippy or our guys keep getting CFB tomorrow.
-
We have no answer for getting the puck thru a clogged neutral zone...thus no cycle and more TOs going the other way. Way better hockey minds than me should have some potential solutions?
-
Gotta play Clark again tomorrow IMO.
-
Great road win. But once again the officiating is embarrassing. Simpson gets boarded twice but no calls...2nd one shoulda been a 5 and gone. Then Mac gets an interfence call after Simpson gets rocked. Pathetic. Screw the Irish on the quick whistle and no goal. Go USC!! In Clark we trust!
-
Gleason is in. Sr. gets another shot. Bet the rope is shorter though.
-
Where is Dave's weekend preview/fearless predictions?? I need that to walk me off the ledge!!!
-
If it's a close contest, like UND 3-2 with Clark being the difference. Notre Dame's D is very solid so I could also see a 4-1 Irish win if our D struggles.

One season is your body of work to reference?? So be it....but what about the previous 4 seasons under Muss? Or are you still glowing from the co-champ GW (5 team league) crown of 2011 season? Keep your eyes fixed on the tree and soon you'll be chanting "we were close" as well.
