2024-25 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
brianvf replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
Not enough playing time this year. -
Northeastern going for the upset in the late game. They're up 3-2 on Maine halfway thru the 3rd. They're the only team in the HEA playoffs that are outside the PWR top 15, so they could move the cut line down a notch if they were to win.

2024-25 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

He did say that Boston was his favorite city in the US just last week: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/get-to-know-und-freshman-forward-sacha-boisvert But then he also said this as well, in today's article about him winning RotY: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/sacha-boisvert-win-nchc-rookie-of-the-year And Berry said this: If Berry said that and Boisvert ends up hitting portal...is he just being nice or is he out of touch with the what the players are doing? Those 45-days that the portal are open are gonna be rough. -
Sandy had a good 40+ min end of season press conference for UMD. Talked about transfers and his hatred of the portal, plus how his team will shape up in future years. He said that he doesn't know what his roster will look like next year at all because he doesn't know how many players will hit the portal. Wouldn't coaches have a really good idea of who might hit the portal or sign pro contracts? I know some might be surprises, but certainly not all. I mean, if us as fans are hearing rumors, I have to think that coaches would hear the same stuff and be able to act on it and discuss with the players beforehand. I know the coaches have end of season discussions with all the players, but I would imagine they could attempt to act on it before it gets to that point. Like if Berry thought there was a chance that some impact players were thinking of leaving, he needs to be going full court press on those guys to "recruit" them back for another season. You know, just basic roster management stuff.

Not good. Not good at all. Unless you count when it is hosted at REA...then his record is stellar.
-
And just checking UConn's team page...man, they are young too. Of their top 12 scorers, only one is running out of eligibility this year. Their top 2 scorers are only SO. They could be good for a couple years if they don't get hit with too many portals or pro signees.

2024-25 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

Congrats to Sacha! Definitely deserved it. Now...1 (or 2) more years! Also...TH won NCHC Media Excellence Award. Also deserved. Poor Ciskie was in the running as well, he didn't stand a chance. -
UConn beat BU today to get their spot in the HEA championship. UConn is surprising this year for sure.

It allows you to select which sport you want your contribution to go to in the checkout.

Thank you for posting that. I decided to finally put my $ where my mouth is and sign up my business for The Flagship Membership. Just doing my part to try to keep Boisvert/Perron/Emery/James in town for another season.

You are correct.

Not well if I recall.

https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/und-hoping-to-get-past-semifinal-hex-at-the-x Gonna need to break that hex if they want their season to continue. Their semifinal record is similar to their NCAA first round record lately.

No worries.

Haha, after 15 years of setting records with consecutive 100+ days, we're kind of done. Living in ND winters, at least you get periods of respite where it's 10-20 instead of being in the negative. Even the nights are 95 here in the summer. It's just relentless. I live in Phx, AZ currently...not ND. Downvote? Ouch. I was born and raised in GF...spent the first 25 years of my life there. I would prefer that over living in Phx like I do now, and it's more than just the weather. But I don't think my wife would let us move back to GF...she's from MI, they can't handle the ND winters. Ha! Agreed on Pacific NW!

As long as you're not required to be anywhere in the vicinity of the campus for the middle 6 months of the year. My family and I can't wait to get out of here...we're moving back to the Midwest in two years when my oldest graduates HS.

I know who's paying for dinners if that's the case.

I think if anything, all the missed NCAA tourneys is enough to move on to another coach. I'll give Berry kudos on that title in his first year...he was an assistant under Hakstol the years prior to the 16 title, so you know he was involved in recruiting all those guys. I know a lot of posters say that he won with another coaches players...I won't go that far. That said...that team was talented enough that they probably still could have won with me, Wilbur, and Oxbow as the coaching staff. But the lack of success the last few years has been increasingly frustrating. A program like UND missing the NCAA tourney should happen at most once every decade during a rebuilding year or something. And then all these one-n-done's if they do make it. Even if UND manages to win both games this weekend to snag a NCAA tourney spot, I would be disappointed if this coaching staff has their contracts extended.

Hobey Finalists were announced: Buium (Denver) Devine (Denver) Fink (Penn State) Gadowsky (Army) Howard (Michigan State) Leonard (Boston College) Martino (Clarkson) McLinskey (Holy Cross) Snuggerud (Minnesota) Tracy (Minnesota State)

Agreed. I thought so too. Wonder if these guys got medical redshirts or something to give them an extra year of eligibility?

People have been mentioning rumors about guys like Boisvert, Perron, Emery, etc once we knew the season was kind of tanking. I have no inside info on any of this, so not sure if people are just making guesses or have knowledge that specific schools have been reaching out. In this portal and NIL age, nothing would surprise me anymore. Seems that the sense of loyalty to your school goes out the window once some $ gets tossed around. That said, those three players (and other big pieces) are integral to upcoming season(s) for this program. If Berry wasn't already on the hot-seat due to how this season (and really the past few seasons) have gone, then I think that fire would really need to be lit if impact players like that start entering the portal from under his nose. It's one thing for players to leave to sign pro deals, but another to have highly drafted players leave due to money / playing time / coaching structure / etc. It's going to be an interesting off-season. I hope next fall that we see most of these guys still playing for UND, but who knows.

A few more with UND ties on that list too:
