Good get for them.

Forgot to answer this question. I think it was said that he played like 3-4 minutes in the game against MI, so even with Pyke out injured, he wasn't on the ice much at all.
-
He wasn't to their level yet, for sure. And definitely a big part of that was because they all had substantially more NCAA playing time compared to him. It's a difficult path either way. If you play Benoit over a portal player, and he keeps making mistakes...does he become the scapegoat on here like so many before him? Remember Moore last year? Or Johnson the year before? I know these young players will make mistakes, it's part of the process...heck, even the experienced guys still made mistakes, especially down the stretch this year. But if a guy keeps repeatedly getting burned, at some point you have to get someone on the ice that isn't making (as many) mistakes. Like what happened with Johnson the second half of his year. For these decisions, ya have to trust the coaches. They know a heck of a lot more than all of us, and see these players every practice and every game to know which players to put on the ice to maximize our chances of winning. For sure. Schloss said that 40% of the 300+ players in the portal this year were 5th year COVID guys. Portal numbers should go down drastically in upcoming off-seasons.

Blake seemed to do alright in his development the last couple years. Agreed. Benoit wasn't to the level of the other players. No knock on him, he could have stuck with it and attempted to improve or go elsewhere. Look at Komzak...he barely played but he's sticking with it (from the current looks of things), and hopefully he develops into a good upperclassmen for us. People are forgetting how much of a liability Moore was last season...it was pretty brutal at times. And then this year I only watched two QU games (NCAA tourney), and he had a horrible turnover in the defensive zone...passed it directly to a UW player for a goal. So it appears even the great Pecknold didn't magically turned him around. I would rather Berry put the lineup on the ice that has the best chance of success (both in that game and for the season development). I agree that he missed the mark two seasons ago playing Hain and Senden so much. And that might have directly led to Costantini leaving, which I feel was a decent size loss. But I didn't see anything this year in Benoit or Emerson that would warrant keeping them on the ice in place of other older/5th year/portal players.

Former UND dman Nate Benoit is transferring to QU to join former UND dman Cooper Moore. We're like a feeder program for QU to take on our dman projects.

2024-25 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
brianvf replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
I think Livanavage is getting there. He took major steps this season. I bet he’s gonna be fun to watch progress the next couple seasons. -
Yeah I could see him being satisfied with the regular season. Certainly not any of the postseason.
-
Well that’s certainly…a step.

Too busy making predictions that the other team will be crying by the end of the game. #nomoretears

Word on the 'net is that both Leonard and Perreault will be returning to BC for their SO years. That's 120 pts right there. Gauthier signed and no word yet on #4 pick Smith, their leading scorer. Wonder if Smith will sign or keep their big line intact. If Celebrini doesn't sign, a line with him and Eiserman would be insane next season. Both BC and BU look to be very very good again next year.

For as much crap as UMN fans like to poke at UND for hitting the portal for goalies, this has good comedic value. They picked up Souliere from PSU out of the portal to join Airey as their goalie tandem. That move pushed out Owen Bartoszkiewicz, who has now entered the portal as well. As a further twist to this.... Souliere is 25 years old already and will turn 26 years old during the 24/25 season. And he is Canadian.

That's a really tough comparison to make. Rube had a 149–186–11 record in his 10 seasons coaching at UND (.447) and didn't win a single championship of any kind. Meanwhile, Berry has a 206–104–33 record in 9 seasons (.649) and has won 7 championships (5 Penna's, 1 NCHC tourney, 1 natty). A more accurate comparison might be Bob May or Barry Thorndycraft...they each won one national title as well...but May only coached 2 seasons while Thorndycraft coached 5 seasons.
-
Zellers immediately comes to mind with that. I'm sure could use a year in juniors, as the jump from (essentially) HS to college is quite big...but then he'd be in the same situation as Blake and being pressured to sign after his SO season here at UND.
-
I’d be on board with this. UND returns a strong team. They should be able to contend for a 2 seed or higher. And then they get a “home” regional game(s) as a reward. If they can’t take advantage of that next year…again…it might be time for the AD to make the tough call.

I think people put too much emphasis on lines and line chemistry on here. On the forums, we have people blasting Berry for both changing the lines too often AND not changing the lines often enough. In the actual games, how often are the actual lines (from the line chart) playing together anyway? They constantly get shuffled due to penalties, injuries, shortening the bench, and with players flipping due to special teams. In all honesty, these players practice and play with each other enough that they can “make it work” with most any combination of players out there.

Good get for sure. Was wondering when he’d get picked out. Michigan lost a lot already this off-season. Looking like a MSU/UMN race for their conf title at this point.
-
You’ve certainly got my attention.
-
Nice that didn’t take long. If one more signs today, we’d have ourselves a Meatloaf song.
-
Depends on what type of cake. If we’re talking German Chocolate, then I’m listening.

Get Behrens, Rizzo, and Devine to sign as well. Maybe even Carle to leave for the NHL.
-
Yes. They must have meant new incoming transfers this season. Since this year was his 2nd year at DU...he was only at UMN for his FR season.
-
Flyers, correct. Round 2, #33 overall.

I wouldn't be surprised with another forward portal player unless we plan on bringing in both Klee & Littler.
