I can't imagine Michigan winning.  Too much skill from BC.

We had way more skill than Michigan the Frattin year too in that semi-final game.  Didn't matter unfortunately.

  2. Broz has really stepped up in the playoffs.  His 2nd game winning goal this postseason.

    DU going for the title.
BU didn't get a single PP all game, that's crazy.  Some plays that def could have been called.

My fear is that if DU and Michigan win today, Bucci, Cohen and the ESPN crew will just pack up and go home. We’ll be watching the championship game on closed caption tv.

    Improvement!

They played both these teams and kept up fine.

Yeah, UND went 4-2 against these two teams this season.  They certainly could have held their own...if they wouldn't have crapped the bed toward the end of the season.

    13 F currently. Good / Bad news.

    Good: 1 can / should be a Ness/Albrecht replacement. 14/15F with Montgomery.

Bad: Are Littler / Klee ready? If not, is there anyone in the portal worth getting? Lucius definitely, but he's been tied to ASU. The portal is really weak this year! I would rather bring in Littler / Klee early as 13F than some mediocre Portal guy.

*Montgomery is currently the only depth F. I don't want to see any of the FR (Croal, Littler, Klee) start out essentially as the 14F. If you hope for them to be contributors eventually, which I think we can all agree those three can be, then they can't start out buried. Not in 2024. We know how that'll play out.

Agreed on the Littler/Klee situation...if you bring in both and those two + Croal end up sitting most nights, we're gonna see some portal entrants from that group this time next year.  Which you hate to see from those players that might just need some extra time to get up to the NCAA speed level but could then turn into good college players.

Props to the guys like Montgomery, Komzak, etc that stick with the team and earn playing time.

Portal entrants are pretty few and far between now, that really slowed down.  Not sure how many players we'll see enter the portal from the F4 teams once this weekend is over, but prob some.  If we're gonna grab one more portal forward and then bring in just one of Klee/Littler, I could see Whitelaw or Copponi or Israels being a nice option.

Really surprised that no one has picked up Dman Lovell from ASU yet.  He's small, but 37pts is legit for a dman.

Blake could have waited until after his 3rd season & Carolina still would have retained his rights & could have signed him then (up to August '25, I think). I know they're fielding a minor team next season & need extra cogs, but they still could have given him another year to develop at this level; both physically & emotionally, instead of throwing him in the deep end & risk "josting" him.

Are NIL dollar amounts received by athletes available to the public? I'm wondering what ballpark figures these hockey players are receiving. 20k, 30k, more?

And did Ralph leave a little extra in the piggy bank for the team to use for contingencies like this?

Agreed on giving him another year to develop.  Talent-wise, he is better than the vast majority of NCAA players, so will probably be just fine at the next level.  I'd be more worried about how easily he got knocked off the puck sometimes this year (especially noticeable early on in the last Michigan game).  Physically...I agree with you that he certainly would have benefited from another year to prepare for the NHL grind.

I don't think NIL amounts are available to the public, just rumors.
Supposedly Eiserman was offered $100k+ to decommit from UMN and go to BU instead.  I've seen similar numbers thrown around for all of the BC super freshmen.

Snuggerud: drafted 1st round, #23 overall; 6'2" 190ish, physically able for pro game now, opts for 3rd yr with Gophers.

    Blake: drafted 4th round, #109 overall; a generous 5'11"  & about 170, goes pro after 2nd year.

Would be interesting to know how much NIL, or lack therof, impacted the above 2 players' decisions.

Snuggerud was drafted in 2022 compared to Blake in 2021 though, so odds are that the Blues didn't put the full court press on Jimmy to sign compared to what Carolina more than likely did for Jackson.
But the first announcement that Snuggy was coming back came from UMN's NIL collective group, so he obviously got something.  So it would for sure be interesting to hear what he might have gotten...and if Blake was even offered anything from the new UND NIL collective to possibly stick around.

How was Blake's situation different than Berg's. Both were drafted in 2021 so why was NYI comfortable letting Berg play another season while CAR would have lost Blake to free agency?

I'm thinking the main difference was that Carolina didn't have an AHL team this past year but their plan is to have one again for 24/25.
So they needed to sign a bunch of players to fill up their farm system again.

  9. Quote

The New York Islanders, who selected Berg in the fourth round in 2021, supported Berg’s return.

“They were the ones who kind of said, ‘Just stay another year, then sign after next year,’” Berg said. “They said they like the spot I’m in and it’s too good (to change).”

Berg was UND’s top power-play threat, scoring a team-high nine goals with the man advantage. He also took a team-high 704 faceoffs and won 56 percent of them.

Two really good centers to start up the middle with Berg and Wilkie now.
I like the idea of putting OMac on the wing alongside one of those two after his faceoff struggles to close this season.

Rodents have a nice advantage with 1st Rounder Snuggy coming back for a 3rd year.  Wish we could same the same.

If Michigan doesn't lose anyone early, I will be apoplectic.

Will be interesting to watch BC & BU offseasons as well.  Both have a ton of highly skilled underclassmen that could leave early.
But will those players "pull a Snuggy" or "pull a Blake"?  That will determine how stacked their teams are next year.

So how many holes do we have to plug before October?

    So far...two forward spots.

That could go a number of ways.
-- both Littler and Klee brought in along with other freshmen forwards
-- one of those two above comes in and then add a portal forward
-- neither of them come in and we get two portal forwards
