  1. The Herald article on the Simonson commitment says he will be here next season: http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/280681/ How many forwards are we planning on bringing in next season? There are a lot of forwards that could potentially come next year...Olson, Simonson, Rowe, Voltin, Wilkie, Schmaltz, Poganski, Gersish. Meanwhile we have two senior forwards in Rodwell and MitchMac...and one somewhat longshot early departure in Grimaldi. I have to think that guys like Rowe and Voltin that have been committed forever but haven't really panned out in the USHL might be going elsewhere unless they don't mind getting pushed back another year continually. Regardless...a ton of talented forwards coming in is never a bad thing!
  2. Doesn't want to wear out his players, since the Gopher players always come back so fatigued after this tourney.
  3. I was more poking fun at the poster I quoted who seems to never post unless it is something negative in regards to Hakstol or the team. Just having some fun. That said, I don't see what this issue with Chyzyk has to do with Hakstol "having control of his players". Hakstol has made his point very clear the past few seasons...if a player messes up, there will be consequences. LaDue sat this past weekend over a very minor infraction. Now Chyzyk screws up to a greater extent...and guess what...he's suspended indefinitely. To me, this isn't an issue of Hakstol having control, it's an issue of a player or two screwing up. He can't be expected to babysit these players at all hours of the day. Just my two cents.
  4. Pretty sad to see an incident like this happen. Reflects poorly on him, the team, and the university.
  5. Unfortunately they fall to Clarkson today by the same score.
  6. Johnson has certainly picked up the pace recently. 2 goals last night, 2 assists tonight. We need more of that!
  7. In my adult league, he'd be gone for the game plus have to sit another game.
  8. Yeah, something about having to wear the other team's t-shirt or something like that...whichever team got more points during the weekend. I skimmed over it to get back to the hockey action.
  9. Denver beats Miami 3-1 despite being outshot 34-12. Ouch. And that loss puts Miami's league record at 2-5. Prior to the season, who would have predicted that??
  10. Don't understand what is with Murray barking at the officials ALL game. I seem to recall an article that I read about him that said he gets annoyed that NCAA officials want to explain every call to the coaches. Yet there he is yelling and demanding explanations the entire time. Crazy.
  11. I for sure thought at least one would be producing by now too. We can hope that one or two of them crank it up a notch (or three) after the midpoint. Honestly, all three have shown some talent at times this season...but it has been way too inconsistent, much like the rest of the team really.
  12. The local Blackhawks reporter better not mention hot goalie in his recap or some posters here will lose it.
  13. Since we don't have anything more to look forward to this year, I thought I'd look at how our committed recruits are doing thus far. Lookin' Good: Tucker Poolman, D - 21 GP, 6g-9a-15pts, 2nd in league dman scoring Trevor Olson, F - 10gp, 6g-7a-13pts, started the season strong...now out after surgery Ryan Mantha, D - 15gp, 1g-4a-5pts, already matched his goal total from last year Nick Schmaltz, F - 16gp, 8g-12a-20pts, leads team in scoring, dominated Intl tourneys Shane Gersich, F - 23gp, 10g-7a-17pts, picking it up recently for the NTDP U18 team So-So: Austin Poganski, F - 15gp, 4g-0a-4pts, worst +/- on the worst team in the USHL Chris Wilkie, F - 19gp, 5g-4a-9pts, 3rd in team scoring on worst team Jack Rowe, F - 17gp, 7g-3a-10pts, doing a bit better than last year Christian Evers, D - 17gp, 1g-4a-5pts, NTDP U17 team Luke Voltin, F - 20gp, 1g-9a-10pts, tied for 2nd on team in scoring...one goal? Christian Cakebread, F - 19gp, 5g-2a-7pts, 3rd on bad Fargo team in scoring Cam Johnson, G - 11gp, 3.06 gaa, .915 save %, good save % on a horrible team Danys Chartrand, D - 26gp, 3g-5a-8pts, doing better than last year Charlie Pelnik, D - 29gp, 0g-5a-5pts, hopefully a good defensive dman... Rhett Gardner, F - 22gp, 7g-6a-13pts
  14. 6-3 SLU SLU finishes 4 for 8 on the PP tonight.
  15. That loss and the regional final loss against DU when Parise/Bochenski were at UND stung about the same for me. Those two years I for sure thought were destined to be title years...
  16. This really is a must sweep type of series, although UND needs to show us that they can play consistently well for 120 min in a weekend. The Sat BU game should hopefully serve as a wake-up call and show that they can play that well. SLU's offense is primarily centered around the Carey brothers. Slow those two down and our chances of winning a game or two go way up.
  17. Thanks for the write-up, keikla! Prior to the season starting, who would have thought OD would be such an important part of our offense? He really has improved since last year, and that's great to see. Perhaps that is why the coaches kept giving him chances last year...they knew that he had it in him.
