It's slightly unbalanced in an individual season, but over the course of four years it continues to cycle making it somewhat fair.

http://www.nmuhockey.net/?p=760 It sounds like most Northern Michigan fans and supporters were for NMU [re]joining the WCHA. However, the head honchos over there decided to stay put in the CCHA. What does this mean? With BSU all but in the WCHA, that leaves the WCHA with a probable 11 team conference. Many talks of either NMU or UNO joining the WCHA have been the main suggestions from our point of view. UNO stated a couple months ago that they were staying in the CCHA to maintain games against more recognizable schools to keep the fanbase interested (Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and even Miami to an extent). Now NMU is out of the mix. Who's next as a possibility? -Lake Superior State seems like the next best option. They are in the UP along with NMU and MTU and have had past success. -UAH still needs a home. Are we going to have to take them in as well as BSU, assuming we take BSU? -An 11 team conference isn't fair, but can be doable to an extent. I don't want to see this, but if it means keeping BSU, I feel it's worth it. -Does the WCHA look even farther east to lower Michigan to possible get an unlikely buyer? I doubt it would happen, but it doesn't hurt to ask (Ferris State, Western Mich, and Central Mich are in this category). Or, considering OSU is in the women's side of the WCHA, are they convinceable? It's unlikely considering their location and intrastate rivalry with Miami. -Do we unfortunately leave BSU in the dust to keep our own conference intact? -Is a Canadian team an answer to the riddle? Lots of questions are raised with this and only time will answer them. Any thoughts?

SIOUX Recruits - 2008-09 Updates, Monitoring Their Junior League Play

I think it's as 50/50 as it gets. Forney said he'd like to return to UND, but I don't think the coaches have given him the bus fare back yet...I would have to believe the coaches have been happy with how he has played in Green Bay, but do we have room for a guy who won't be here for a continuous four years considering how many recruits we have committed? Only time will tell, and like you hinted at, it may have to do with VV staying or leaving. If this is the case, Mattson might be a for sure 1 year USHLer. We will see I guess. -
Two years ago I watched every game on TV like it was my job. So, last year I gave in and paid up for Center Ice. I watched LESS hockey than I did before-hand. Not sure why, but I definitely didn't get my money's worth This year I didn't do it.

I'm not disagreeing with you because you make a good point, but for every TJ Oshie there's a Michael Forney. That's not to knock on Forney because I'm a big supporter of his and injuries are what hindered him and not talent, but he didn't give us much and maybe with some USHL conditioning, he wouldn't have had the problems he did. Let's home Forney can come back to college (whether it's with the Sioux or not) and be an impact player. -

Adieu, adieu, to yieu and yieu and yieu

If anyone noticed, the more aggressive Chay got this season, the worse our team played. When he starts trying to do too much, it hinders us. We have five players on the ice and with good passing and using our forwards we can get the puck into the opposing zone just fine. It's not like we couldn't score unless Chay was out there thinking he's the second coming of Wayne Gretzky or something. Imagine if Chay was a forward. He could have the puck passed to him (a nice concept) and then he can carry it into the zone. Then, when he turns it over, we still have two defensemen in position to cover his mistakes unlike the last two seasons when we only had Joe back there.
-
With our huge need for defensemen he's been needed back there. I don't know why he doesn't try Davidson back there. A defenseman with forward skills who is more apt to stay at home and play defense is what we need.

Fighting Sioux jerseys for only $55

Gemini has made our hockey jerseys before, and I believe made our football jerseys through this year (moving to Nike next year). I don't think that the Porter jersey is any strong evidence supporting our transition to Gemini. Porter is a former player and I think since they made our jerseys in the past they used that as an example of what they can do, not necessarily an example of a future jersey of ours. I don't see why we'd change our jersey style anyways. Gemini has made our current style before and could again if they wanted. -
So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, adieu!

Jason Gregoire: 2007-08 USHL Player of the Year 2007-08 USHL Scoring: 54 games played 37-32--69 2008-09 UND Scoring: 12-17--29 Mike Cichy 2008-09 USHL Scoring: 54 games played 33-41--74 That's not a huge difference, and a lot of Mike's scoring came after being traded to a much better team. He scored 16 more pts in only 2 more games with Indiana than Tri-City. If Jason didn't do, I just can't see Cichy doing it. Also, Mike isn't short (albeit not tall) at 5-11, 195...so the Duncan size comparison has me confused there (5 inches taller and 30 pounds heavier than Duncs). He sounds like an awesome player, but to expect a kid to come in and put up 30 WCHA pts as a freshman isn't as easy as some of you make it seem. There's no need to overhype a recruit because it only builds for a let down.

I understand that. It's just easier to say adidas when referencing "non-Nike." I work in an industry that deals with apparel companies and know how the business works. Companies combine or get bought out but names stay the same and deals can be worked out with logos and stuff, etc. -
I'll say 10-14--24. Not that I'm an expert, but you just don't come into the WCHA and tear it up unless you're a stud. I'm sure Cichy is good, but is he a Toews or Oshie type? No. I hate Duncan comparisons because there aren't many Duncans. For every small player like Duncan, there are probably 20-30 great players that just wouldn't cut it at this level.

I think by Michigan back in the 50s, but would have to look it up to say for sure.

Right. The previous poster mentioned them, which is why it wasn't listed. I do NOT want adidas jerseys. I wouldn't mind RBK jerseys. I'm guessing they'll just be Bauer jerseys. The only thing holding the Bauer thing back right now is that Bauer doesn't have the rights to each of the schools. Nike had the rights. This isn't hard to obtain, but that's part of the situation nonetheless. -

I believe as of last year our practice jerseys were already branded as Bauer (not Nike Bauer). Also, a few schools that don't wear Nike: -BSU (Gemini) -Mankato (Gemini) -Notre Dame (adidas) -UAA (unknown) -St. Cloud (unknown) -Mich. Tech (unknown) There are a lot more as well. My guess is it's about 50/50 or 60/40 in Nike's favor in amount of Nike-Bauer stuff out there. -
UAA and UAF in the same conference isn't going to happen because of travel costs for teams that have to go to Alaska twice in a season. UAA isn't going anywhere. Also, an 11 team conference CAN'T be done if you listen to Bruce McLeod.

I'm not sure a lot of leaders is a good thing. I'm not saying this year's team struggled with that, but 2-3 guys are plenty to carry the "leadership role" on a team. Genoway seems like a natural leader especially as the perennial iron man winner since Porter left. If VV is still here he'll have leadership responsibilty as well. Next year's Junior class will also see an added role in this department. How the guys fit into their new roles is up to them, but I think we'll be ok.
