Yes, he is right. But guess what? Everyone who attends the games has the power to turn it into something other than a museum-like atmosphere. Nobody is telling anyone not to be loud or not to cheer. It's ridiculous to think otherwise. I agree with Jim Dahl that there needs to be a coordinated effort to get people involved in the games. The tools to do that are in place. It's a matter of the fans, REA and UND working together for improvement. I e-mailed some ideas on how this might be accomplished to the UND administration, Roger Thomas and the REA staff. I know others who frequent this board have done the same thing. I talked to Roger this weekend and he is very supportive of efforts to get fans more involved in the games. And wonder of wonders, so is the UND administration! It's time to stop complaining and start doing something positive.

  3. The timeout was called a minute and a half into the third period, less than 20 seconds after the Sioux went up 5-2. As I recall, the Tigers came right down the ice after the faceoff and nearly scored. I'm sure Blais was concerned about the team letting up after going ahead by 3 goals. There was plenty of time left for CC to make a comeback. I assume that he wanted to remind everyone that the game wasn't over and the players needed to keep their heads in it.
  4. I believe you're right. I think he was on the bench for the entire game after that, which is why Marvin started playing defense.
  5. Rushing the net? Were you at Wimbeldon?
  6. I like that approach. Initially, I think it's best to start with something simple that everyone knows and the whole crowd can join in on.
  7. I think that our D-men have shown that they are capable of making plays on rushes and in putting the puck on net from the blue line. Blais said the Schneider, Jones and Fuher can all do it. But lately, for whatever reason, they've gotten away from it.
  8. This article in today's Grand Forks Herald discusses the difficulty CC has had in scoring this season. Of course, as we saw this past weekend, bad goaltending can make a mediocre forward look like a Hobey Baker candidate. The Sioux need solid goaltending from Jake and Jordan. It doesn't have to be spectacular, just solid. The Sioux also need to get more of their forwards scoring again. That could be tough because CC is a good defensive team and has two good goalies. I hope the forwards don't get frustrated to the point where they're making too many passes and trying to pick the corner on every shot. Bochenski hasn't had a "bunches of goals" game or series in a while. This weekend would be a good time for that to happen. As Blais mentioned during the coaches show Wednesday, the defensemen have to get more involved in the scoring. They need to get the puck to the net from the blue line. Lately, it seems as if the D-men have been very tentative in taking those shots. They hesitate before shooting and telegraph the shot, which is then blocked. It should be an interesting series. I agree with jk about CC being desperate. They aren't going to roll over and die. It will take a 100 percent effort from the Sioux both nights.
  9. I know who the weenie is and he's in Fargo, not Grand Forks. You can tell how desperate NDSU and Bison fans have become by the tactics they use. They think they can goad UND into playing them by calling us names and using school yard taunts. Very mature.

    The War Comes Home

On Friday, Feb. 13, at 11:35 a.m., Scott Hennen will devote the last 20 minutes of his Hot Talk radio show (WDAY 970AM) to a tribute to Ken Hendrickson, one of two ND National Guardsmen killed in Iraq on Jan. 24. A group of Ken's friends, relatives and professional colleagues will talk about his life. You can listen to the show via the Internet by going to the WDAY Web site and scrolling down to the "Listen to Hot Talk" link. A National Public Radio story that included an interview with Ken's relatives was broadcast last week. Finally, I have added a tribute to Ken on my Web site at grandforker.com. It covers the 14 years I knew him as a war gamer in Bismarck.
  11. My Web site, grandforker.com, has links to all the latest forecasts, road conditions and radar information for the Grand Forks region.
  12. Which makes you an expert on hockey in North Dakota? I don't think so.
  13. From one SDSU alum to another, I'd advise you not to write about what you obviously know nothing about.
  14. I didn't say that his opinion was wrong. I said his statement wasn't true because it wasn't. I was there. I heard the post-game reactions from the players and coaches regarding the atmoshphere in the arena. I can judge for myself whether there's any validity to the claim.
  15. That's all well and good, Dick, if you buy into the "everybody does it" defense. But let me ask you something that the Sicatoka alluded to: Are the fans at Michigan and Michigan State under a microscope because of their schools' nicknames? Didn't think so.
  16. Actually, that's a column by Doreen Yellowbird who writes regularly for the Herald.
  17. So you agree that the atmosphere was "crap" during the Colorado series? I know that Scott Owens would disagree. At any rate, people are confusing the issue. And as long as they continue to do that, the problem of profanity and racial taunts isn't going to be solved.
  18. I think Hallstrom was expressing a tongue-in-cheek opinion, but even at that, it was self-serving, dellusional and uninformed. This is all he needs to know:
  19. Yeah, I've never seen any football players with anything attached to their bodies. Of course, every nation in the world plays football. And what's that summer game you have to play with a wooden club and a leather glove? I've also seen guys using a big stick to jump over a pole. I guess none of those are real sports. Seriously. How old are you?
  20. Wow, that is radical. Maybe it would even catch on in the WCHA some day.
  21. It was the same with the series against Colorado College when most of the students were gone for the holiday break. If that place was ever louder when David Hale scored the tying goal in the final seconds of regulation, I don't know when it was.
  22. Live from Joe DiMaggio's Restaurant in beautiful downtown Grand Forks. Tim Hennessy and Scott Swygman are the hosts with Coach Dean Blais. Tim says Rich Glas saved UND from total humiliation by beating the Bison last weekend. He said he saw Robbie Earl
  23. Sorry, but that's just not true.
  24. Then you've already lost.
  25. How old are you? Really.
