  1. Maybe this Saturday they should put some Red Bull in Lammy's water bottle to start the third period.
  2. Looks like the Eagle has landed. Looks like quite the adventure for Eddie and his stats are impressive too. http://www.leksandsif.se/index.php?page=in...500&iType=3
  3. Especially that bald guy. He has this big grin on his face the whole time.
  4. Here is a must read Patrick C. Miller article at USCHO for Fighting Sioux Fans. Nice to see someone get the word out as to how student athletes compete with pride and inspiration when they wear the Sioux crest. http://www.uscho.com/news/college-hockey/i...nspiration.html Good to see TJ Oshie provide such support for the school and for his fellow atheletes. Have also heard similar comments from other student athletes. Such positive support should be an inspiration to others and provides evidence that one way or another the Fighting Sioux name will live forever in our hearts and minds.
  5. Must read Patrick C. Miller article for Fighting Sioux Fans. Nice to see someone get the word out as to how student athletes compete with pride and inspiration when they wear the Sioux crest. http://www.uscho.com/news/college-hockey/i...nspiration.html Also some insightful and positive feedback in the message board regarding this article.
  6. Hate is a constitutionally protected right. The first amendment to the US constitution actually protects one's right to express hate. For example many people hate political corruption and corrupt politicians and in some instances it may even be healthy to vent and verbally express feelings about something or somebody. However, acts of violence against other human beings is a crime.
  7. Only consistency I see is that he faces twice as many shots on goal as his opponents. Allowing 40+ shots on goal every night is not good defence. Looks like an uphill struggle for any goalie. He's going to need more than consistency in his game, some help from the rest of the team would be nice.
  8. I think the Oregon Ducks first ice hockey season was in 1998-1999. <a href="http://www.oregonduckshockey.com/" target="_blank">http://www.oregonduckshockey.com/</a> ASU is in their club hockey conference so they do actually play each other in ice hockey. Also didn't the Ducks win the Stanley Cup last year.
  9. No new nickname if we can't use Fighting Sioux: name should be just North Dakota. That way we will forever be remembered as the Fighting Sioux. If we had to have a new nickname, how about: Fighting French Canadians - In honor of the States early history when many inhabitants were French Canadian and in honor of the many Canadians that played for the Fighting Sioux. However, would the NC$$ make us get approval from both France and Canada before something like this was acceptable to them? Fighting Scouts - In honor of the brave Scouts that served during the "Indian Wars" era. This way we could keep the existing logo with a simple modification, just add a Calvary hat. Also Scouts is more of a generic non-racial term so local tribal approval would not be necessary. Fighting Farmers - In honor of the traditional family farm and to give recognition to their fight or struggle just to keep the farm. However, would be sort of cool to see NDSU fans try to start a "farmers suck" chant. Seems nothing can adequately replace Fighting Sioux. So just a simple North Dakota sounds good to me.
  10. Here is a solution. We keep the logo but change the name. Here is how. We notify all tribes or bands in North Dakota, Minnesota, and Manitoba that we are considering a name change and to inform them that they are being considered as an official sponsor for the University and if selected their tribe (or band) receive the benefit of the shared use of the logo and will receive exclusive national recognition. New name could be Fighting (Insert Band/Tribe Name Here) Sioux. And maybe have a different sponsor each year. Tribes/bands may actually compete with each other to be the one. We could either keep the Sioux name or choose some other name. If the existing imagery is appropriate to the new tribe/band it stays or we could modify it as needed. Asking a Canadian tribe to sponsor us makes sense because historically this was Canadian soil and Canadian native Americans or is it native Canadians lived here. Also Canadians love hockey I'm sure they would love to sponsor the team and we would get a new fan base. Seems most people think our team is Canadian anyway so overall it looks like a win/win situation if managed OK. Fighting Ojibway? Fighting Anishinabi? I think Ojibway sounds OK, better than force of the north. There are over 50 tribes in Manitoba! Lots of names to choose from. http://www.nanations.com/canada/manitoba.htm also several tribes in Minnesota http://www.accessgenealogy.com/nativ...sota/index.htm just pick one and get approval so we can keep the logo.
  11. Actually Dave Christian scored 7 seconds into his first game as a Winnipeg Jet. Setting the NHL record for fastest goal by a player in his first game.
  12. First game for the Sioux, 8th game for Manitoba. If Manitoba is at mid-season form could be a tough game.
  13. Nice Quotes. "Me, personally, I'd make him captain right now," Lapointe said. "It's not that I don't want the C. He could sit beside me and I could help him. I would take pride in that. "Jonathan's the kind of guy who wants to be a leader, who wants to learn from the veterans. He's a smart kid, too. He plays with a lot of emotion. He's not just a skill guy who can score goals. With him you get the whole package. Very special." Lapointe says of Toews. "He's scary good." "He obviously was able to keep up, more than keep up," said Yzerman, adding that he was startled to see how physically mature Toews was. "They have to be tickled pink that Jonathan Toews is the real deal. And he is," Button said. "He's such a well-rounded player, there's no part of the game he can't compete in. There's nothing light about Jonathan. Nothing." "Toews has never played an NHL shift, yet he's already won a World Championship and people are talking captaincy." " Toews said. "We don't know how hard it's going to be. But I guess we're going to find out."
  14. New sign idea: "Gophers are Rodents not Mascots".
  15. Shoot from here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsstORtLHFA
  16. Out 2-3 Weeks. Plans to start season opener. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...hawks-headlines
  17. http://www.indianmascots.com/ Interesting anti indian mascot site on the web. I was kind of comcerned with the map of Wisconsin where they have the locations of the indian named schools. Just from looking at the map it almost looked like they were waging some sort of war game where the object of the game is to wipe out all indian names off the map.
  18. I suppose when the Bison play the Sioux we should expect at least one Bison player to be named player of the week: http://www.suu.edu/athletics/06pows.html WOW! Impressive punting yardage.
  19. The GF Herald article also quoted this:
  20. Also interesting to see that Humboldt State was rated at #40.
  21. Just because something is free (NDSU scholarship) doesn't mean kids want to go there. If I had to choose between UND without a scholarship and NDSU with a scholarship I would go to UND. Also same with my kids NDSU couldn't pay me enough for me to want send my kids there. Just because NDSU can find 63 suckers to take their money it doesn't make them a better football team. For example SUU has more scholarships than UND. It didn't seem to make them a better Football team. Obviously it takes a lot more than scholarship money.
  22. More pathetic than this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KHaKOjX_Hs What a great Jimmy Kleinsasser highlight right up the middle past everyone. Was Jimmy that fast or are the Bison that slow? Against the Bison he looks like he has Randy Moss speed.
  23. Funny how UND's depth is reported as a strength in the news and by opposing coaches. Also interesting to see how much playing time they have gotten in recent games. My guess is that the experts are correct in that UND does have depth. Also seems that a lot of Freshmen are getting a lot of playing time. The way things seem to be going it almost appears that if you dress for the game you will get a chance to play. UND may return a large number of letter winners next year if the underclassmen continue to get as much playing time as they have lately. Seems that a lofty goal for the upperclassmen is to finish the game by the half (30 point lead) to give the underclassment game experience.
  24. Convincing arguments! Sounds like a criminal act where with the right jury Paukovich could have gone to jail for assault and or in a civil case could have been sued and made to pay damages for the injuries suffered. If I were Paukovich I would rather take the beating like a man than go to court as a defendant.
  25. Mesquite is OK but then why not fly into Vegas and go from there. Usually flights to Vegas are Cheap. Also Zion NP is close by.
