  1. Sounds like they should do this everytime they meet. Don't they need to train just to be prepared for live game situations in the NHL.
  2. At one time this land, the Red River Valley, was part of Canada and was inhabited by the M
  3. It's my understanding that the origin of the Sioux name is not from any of the tribes in North Dakota but was the name given to them by their enemies. So if the enemies of the tribes own the name then maybe the 7th Calvery (once a Sioux enemy) should signoff on the name. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._7th_Cavalry_Regiment According to wikipedia the 7th Calvery seems to be have connections to Irish soldiers that participated in the Indian wars, so maybe the Fighting Irish own the name?

    Vikings

No offence against a team without much of a defense. Hate to see what happens to the offence when they play against a good defense. Thought the Vikings starting defense did well.
  5. 353 over the limit. Fishing must be good. http://www.grandforksherald.com/articles/i...ection=homepage
  6. Living in Southern California I see lots of UND alumni at Hockey games, or at Twins or Vikings games. One time in the Los Angeles area I spotted a guy wearing a nice Sioux jersey at a local restaurant. He admitted that he had never been to North Dakota but that he was huge Sioux hockey fan, and the Sioux jersey is his favorite. Of course I complemented him on his good taste.
  7. Fargo is far superior because their magnificent thundering herd bison foothall team lost but almost defeated the gophers.
  8. Especially because when the doors finally opened after waiting outdoors drinking booze for two hours, you had to first secure your seats in the general admission student section before running to the urinals.
  9. "One of the most oppressed in world history" Oh the guilt of it all. I'm supposed to feel sorry when my european ancestors fled from generations of war, torture, murder, poverty, starvation, disease, religious persecution, (basically victims of every kind of human rights violation imaginable) to become indentured servants (slaves) in the new world. Then once here they had to fight and die in the revolutionary war, civil war, and every war since just so that future generations could live in a county that protects human rights. Should people be given special rights or privileges because their ancestors were "historically" oppressed. If so count me in.
  10. The real question is what is a fair and impartial desired outcome? If the NCAA chooses to sanction some schools but exempt others their rules would be considered arbitrary and unenforceable, maybe even illegal. Wouldn't any attempt to enforce an arbitrary, unenforceable, or illegal rule just lead to another injunction, more litigation, and more claims for damages?
  11. I agree. But they also may be thinking that they will have to drop a lot of coin if they lose, especially if they have to face a Grand Forks jury. If you go to the ND attorney general web page and look up the complaint at http://www.ag.state.nd.us/NCAA/Complaint-State-Court.pdf you can see on the last two pages that the complaint is for money damages and injunctive relief as follows: For money damages, in an amount to be proved at trial; For treble money damages, in an amount to be proved at trial; For pre and post judgment interest as allowed by law; For temporary, preliminary and permanent injunctive relief; For reasonable attorney
  12. First guess should be that he has accepted a promotional opportinity as head coach somewhere in the Grand Forks area. After all that is the last job on his resume and what he is good at. Also this may explain Jason Gregoire's sudden change in plans for next season.
  13. I'm thinking settlement means we keep the name, NCAA apologises and pays all attorney fees, and in exchange North Dakota will be good sports and forget about seeking money damages.
  14. I'm no artist but here is a logo idea. How about a dream catcher that has a hockey puck in it. The hockey puck could say Sioux Sports. Maybe with a caption below that says "catch the latest scores" or something like that. Could also be cool if the website could open with an animated hockey player shooting a puck into the net of the dreamcatcher.
  15. http://www.thehockeynews.com/en/news/Detai...sp?xml=h051629A "I was very impressed by the way he played in the world championships," said Blackhawks head coach Denis Savard. "Jonathan is a heart and soul kid. He looks like he's been very well coached. He is a solid two-way player with lots of skill." Nice tribute to the UND coaching staff. Good Luck in Chicago.
  16. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/story.asp?id=313183 Sounds like he will sign within the next two weeks.
  17. USA Today article on Zach Parise. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/2007...arise-usa_N.htm Nice photo of Zach after playoff loss. With 10 points in 11 playoff games it seems he gave his best effort. After the disappointing end to his NHL season this is such a great, but not unexpected, opportunity for him. Zach's work ethic and enthusiam should go for to inspire his new teammates and give fans a lift after the loss to team Canada. If USA goes on to win the gold metal this photo would serve as a good reminder to give 100% and that good things can and do happen when you don't give up on your dreams.
  18. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/story/2007...orldroster.html Parise joins team USA.
  19. 2nd period of USA V Canada game. Canada up 5-2. Looks like Canada will win this one without a shootout. Was hoping game ended in a tie, and Toews was in a shootout again against Frazee. Also noted that Frazee wasn't on the roster for this game. Wonder why?
  20. As an alumni living in California it's good to see that some of the stuff I posted to the top 10 list made it to a board at the Italian Moon. Just thought of one more addition to the list. With Jonathan Toews recent success we forgot to add what might be the best excuse: Still suffering from post tramatic stress, flashbacks, and nightmares from Jonathan Toews shootout at world juniors semifinal loss.
  21. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto.../TPStory/Sports UND Sophomore rave reviews. "He's unbelievable how he's taken in the pressure," said forward Rick Nash, who had the winning goal against the Slovaks. "He's pretty much the quarterback on the power play. His vision and his puck skills are pretty unbelievable. ... I'm definitely impressed." "Toews's best play yesterday set up defenceman Eric Brewer for a goal in the second period that made the score 3-1 for Canada. The teenager held on to the puck before sending it between four Slovak defenders and right onto Brewer's stick. It certainly had his teammates talking." "He was awesome," Doan said. "He's somebody that can do so much offensively and he's capable of doing more." Tied for team lead in points in world tournament. He is apparently ready for next level of play but teammates say he is still learning the game. It's a no brainer that he also wants to lead team Canada for a third Juniors championship. Sounds like he may return to college if he wants to improve his skills and play in the world juniors.
  22. Did he sign today. A news service is reporting him as a Chicago Blackhawk. http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/news_sto...canadian_hockey False alarm. I hope. Sporting news reported him as a prospect. http://www.thehockeynews.com/en/news/Detai...sp?xml=h042521A
  23. Looks like Toews may have officially been added to Team Canada. Makes me nervous the way they described him as a Chicago Blackhawk. Did he sign today? If he didn't sign maybe we should ask the news service to make a correction to unclude him as a UND hockey player. http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/news_sto...canadian_hockey The news article above was been edited to include mention of Jonathan Toews as a prospect and mentioned his playing time at UND.
