I would have wanted my chocolate lab to take over for Babich.......I was never a Babich backer. He was the guy responsible for the slide in the NDSU program. That is why these coaching changes are so risky for both programs.

Big Name and D2 opponents are mutually exclusive....

Just a way of life for small college football....D1AA included....when you have a good coaching staff that has good success it becomes impossible to keep it together. the challenge becomes finding replacements that keep the quality of your program up there. NDSU had done a great job of that until Babich hit the scene. When Lennon and his staff leave UND will be facing the challenge too. UND and NDSU....whether D2 or D1AA will always be used as stepping stones to bigger an better things. Just a fact of life.

The Harlon Hill has become such a key part of D2 Football that all would scream if it did not continue. And I should give a huge credit to the people in Florence for starting that great tradition. (Even some of us D1AA people still care about things like the Harlon Hill ). A rotation for the game would be great. I think that many cities would be proud to host the event and be able to put it on. Plus it would be a fresh event for the community. And....northern sites with an indoor facility should be considered.

My thought on next year........it is too far away. Damn I hate it when football season winds down. (especially when the BB season is looking pretty lame). Heck, the D2 site isn't really my concern anymore.....I just think that you could find places that offered a lot more than Florence and the shoals area. I have been there and was not overly impressed. It is an OK stadium, but pretty middle of the road as is the community. Not bad, but not exceptional. I think the D2 title should be in an exceptional facility with exceptional support. The fact that you say many did not even go to the game who had tickets shows a lack of enthusiasm. That lack of enthusiasm by the community at large has grown over the years. By they way I also think that there could be a hell of a lot better site than Chattanooga for the D1AA game too.

I think that the attendance has really dropped off in recent years and that is an indication that the community is not supporting the event enough. This is a National Title Game and it ought to be a huge draw. I think that a community that is hosting such an event needs to make sure it is as close to a sellout as possible. If that means the local business community kicks in and buys the stadium out and gives tickets away....do it. It does not look good to a national TV audience when the stadium is only 1/2 to 1/3 full for this event. I think that hurts the credibility of the Division. Of course the goofs at ESPN didn't help out by missing almost the entire first quarter either. I think that support at Florence has really waned as is demonstrated by the drop in attendance. Compare the first 5 years at Florence to the last 5. The venue is tired and a change is needed. It is disappointing that the NCAA did not have the balls or the motivation to seek a new site. I will say it was a hell of a game and the way both teams played deserved a sold out stadium and the entire game on ESPN. The game was a real credit to two great teams (ugh....did I just compliment the Sioux?) Lennon and the Sioux really put together an incredible year and deserved to be in the title fight.

Hey Sioux Folks...most of us have been to Florence several times... Seriously, they need a better venue for that title game. Florence has never done much for me. What do you guys think after last weekend...is it time for D2 to move the game?

Actually I do have to admit that the goofy SOS requirements did play a big role last weekend.....so I will give you guys that.....but you still ought to have the guts to sign the contract.

Jeez I hate the Sioux.... But I gotta hand it to Lennon and the team. They have put together a great season. They have put together some key wins and have made some play execution that others have not. No way would have I ever guessed at the beginnning of the season that the Sioux would go this far....and I am sure most of you would not have either. The way the Sioux are playing football I would have to pick them to win the whole damn thing in Florence. And to think we let you guys beat us in OT...but then again, that is what the game is about. Congrats on a solid win.

I still say if Lennon and the Sioux win of Sat. he is a huge flight risk.

I think it is a whole lot more realistic than it was a year ago. I also think that the conferenced like the Big West that are pciking up some of the schools on probation are making some pretty good progress towards the reduction, but onlu time will tell.

That was quality Smack....but it's time to write something new.....If I didn't have to go to Laramie for a settlement conference today I would perhaps contribute some poetry to this rather smackish thread.....but you will all have to wait.... If the meeting gets dull today and tomorrow I will work on it there.....

The Herd has a lot of work to do in BB. There is no doubt about that. It will come with the move to D1, but, I am glad that there will be a probationary period to use a development time. Latest seems it will be about 5 years......I gotta say other than SDSU....I am surprised at how weak the NCC is this year.

I think with success at the D1AA level in football NDSU will put enough people in the seats to make football a big money maker. NDSU does have to do a lot of work though to enhance the pre-game atmosphere (tailgating) and bring more excitement into the Fargodome. The fans seem to go dead at the Fargodome way too easy. People complain if you are rowdy and loud....which is insane at a Football game. I think the fact that the games being indoors kills a lot of the atmosphere....but this far north playing outside is a catch 22.

......and Crookston has a Football team that would have a tough time in NAIA ball.....oh....sorry, I forgot you guys played them.....kind of like beating up on an old lady.....

I could care less about UND hockey.....I think you guys kind of whored yourselves to Ralph Englestad....but hey, I am from NDSU so I don't really care.....its your issue, not mine... Now the whole Entzion deal.....that was our thing.... Not a good thing, but he is gone....(and left behind some good fodder for crude jokes).

The bottom line is that none of us from NDSU give a s&!t about hockey....It bores the hell out of me.
