Oops, yeah, I was thinking of the Dogs. My bad. I'm trying to find some video evidence of UNH but I've come to realize that BU is the only team in this regional that puts out free highlight packages. So if both BU and UND advance, Sioux fans can check out those videos of their home games to see what they've been up to since the first game of the season. There are more videos on youtube in HQ if you look for the poster Olo97. UNH has some NESN highlights, I'll put those in the other thread. Personally I would like to see tUMD get to the FF4; love Stalock, reminds me of Brodeur.

The refs never signaled a goal on the ice. Upon review they saw the net come up and down on its mooring which in the rule book is the same as the net coming off it's moorings before the puck goes in and therefore play is dead and no goal. League commish stands by it and he hates BU. It also happened in the second period so people up in arms that it cost Lowell the game have to consider that they had 8 pp opportunities to tie and take the lead including a 5 x 3, and bs penalty in the last minutes of the game that gave them a 6 x 4 advantage for the remainder. BU had one full pp advantage the whole night and that came in the first period, if the refs felt like they had made a mistake then they did everything in their power to hand Lowell the game and a good hockey team will take advantage of that. Even the levelheaded Lowell fans agreed to that. BU's big worry should be injuries, maybe not as big as Denver but still. Their only real defensive dman is playing but still in pain. Higgins is playing with a broken bone in his wrist. Pereira is still in the hospital after getting impaled on a broken stick and is out for the season with internal bleeding and a ruptured spleen. Glass who would replace him has a concussion, so that means Gilroy part deux is gonna have to step it up. Normally I would say it doesn't bode well for the Sioux that they've just played 3 games in three days while UHN has had 2 weeks off, but this is the Mildcats in the first round we're talking about so it's a moot point. If Foster can come up huge for the Kittys then they came make this a game, but if Eidsness can match or out deul him it's no contest 'cause the Wildcats cannot scores goals. I also think Umile should just decline any PP's, that's their key to the game. Oh, and watch out for JVR on the SH.
-
Yes . . . and UNH never plays well at the Verizon in particular.
-
So, who wants to know about the Mildcats? Well, for starters their powerplay is atrocious and has been all year so the Sioux better start working on theirs. Most likely to take a dumbass penalty is Danny Dries; he's done some stupid stuff this year. Foster, the starting goalie was lights out to begin the season, but around T'giving injured his ankle and has been nowhere near as good since. Shoot high. UNH's D corps is prone to mistakes down low, so the Sioux should pressure them behind and around the net. Speed will be key as well, their Dmen are easy to get around and don't handle odd man situations very well. Scoring will come from the top line, so basically JVR, Sislo, LeBlanc. Other than them I don't think they have any other double digit goal scorers. And of course Little Kessel is on UNH.

Checking in from the Garden: Lowell beats NU in OT.
-
Lowell and NU are scoreless after 1 . . . pretty boring so far. Last time I checked AFA was ahead of Bentley in the AHA.
-
SLU is leading Yale 1 - 0 late in the first. Game's on NHL Network. ND - NMU is about to start on FCSA if you have it. FSN Detroit will be live streaming the Michigan/Alaska game tonight if anyone wants to watch the Wolverines. link

NU fans on USCHO and HFBoards have already ordained Thiessen the Hobey winner. Their reasoning: He won HE player of the Year so it doesn't make sense that another HE player should win the Hobey over him. And so what if his numbers are nowhere near the bar that Ryan Miller set, doesn't matter because Thiessen is going to be the one to win to set the bar lower.

SI did a feature on butterfly goaltending and it goes in depth on what happened to Jordan Parise while in the AHL. Also, didn't someone mention a while back that they were going to the Devils - Hawks game last night? You picked a great game to attend; we had a great crowd last night, hope you liked The Rock.

RPI beat Cornell 1 - 0 BU beat Maine UMass beat Northeastern

Parise with goal number 40 tonight. Scored like 20 seconds into the game . . . okay nhl.com says 18 seconds.

Here's a take on the current bracketology courtesy of Tim Rosenthal at insidehockey.com East (Bridgeport, CT) #1 Boston University vs. #16 Bemidji State #6 Vermont vs. #9 Yale Midwest (Grand Rapids, MI) #2 Notre Dame vs. #15 Air Force #8 North Dakota vs. #11 Miami West (Minneapolis) #3 Michigan vs. #13 Minnesota #5 Northeastern vs. #12 Princeton Northeast (Manchester, NH) #4 Denver vs. #14 Ohio State #7 New Hampshire vs. #10 Cornell INCH also has a new 4 x 4 that takes a dig at the "State of Hockey"

I'm pretty sure they do. The last time I went to a regional where the host team was actually in action was that BU - UND game in '05. BU was the host, but the Sioux were the higher seed and hence the home team.
-
Yale is the host of the East regional but the Arena at Harbor Yard is not their home rink; it's the home of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (Islanders AHL affiliate). The Gophers are the only hosts with their home rink as the venue.

He could've had a hattie tonight but he rang the posts. Maybe Zach should invest in a shooter tutor.

Parise with his 39th during a cluster**** in front of Kipper. He's gotta pick up the pace 'cause Vanek is back. That picture of Greener reminds me of some gunshot wounds I saw working in the MGH ER.

Edit: Why? Is my presence necessary and/or wanted? It should be . . . everytime I go to a Sioux game they win. If I were still an undergrad I would be at whatever regional BU was at because I spent those 3 years as an indentured servant to the athletic department. Growing up kind of sucks, but since now I get to choose: If BU ends up in Manchvegas and the Sioux are in B'port, it would be easier for me to get to CT (quick train ride vs. driving several hours). I missed regionals for the first time last year and would love to go, but it all depends on school and whether I can drag my brother away from his 60 hour work week to accompany me. I know for sure I wouldn't go back to Grand Rapids though. GR is a flat, vast barren wasteland with a six lane highway and a Steak 'n Shake. Very nice people that work at the airport though, even at 4 in the morning. Van Andel does have really great buffalo nachos though. I think a BU - UND rematch would be interesting, but beyond that I'd have no idea what to think. Both have freshmen goalies so I guess in the end it would come down to who plays better Eidsness or Millan/Rollheiser. And after watching the BU/NU games and then the UND/Wisco series I would guess that it would be a special teams battle. 5 x 5 the teams match up well. BU takes a lot of penalties (when HE refs are involved) but sometimes they get into this PK mode where they block shots like crazy bastards and well, NU found out how that turns out when they're in "that zone". It would be awesome for BU and UND to face off in both the first and last games of their seasons. Any stat or historical gurus know how many times that's happened in the NCAA?

I would agree with everything except the analysis of the BU D core. They are not undisciplined. Last year they were and combined with the awful goaltending was their downfall. Their D has stepped up the defensive play this year. I would say the most vital part of BU's defense is the down low play of the forwards. Parker makes all of his forwards play defense and it's their aggressive back checking which is sometimes undisciplined not the D men; they take penalties more often than the D corps. I don't know many who would agree with me, but I would take Michigan over Notre Dame right now. I feel like if you get Notre Dame down two goals, they won't come back to beat you, at least against the better teams in the country. If you let them play their style and control the game yeah you're going to have problems, but if you jump out early I don't think their style of play is conducive to turning up the heat for an offensive outburst to get themselves back in the game. Michigan has the offense to do that.
-
All four BU lines can score. So can all 3 defensive pairings. Basically everyone but Gryba and Strait can score. Michigan this year I don't think is as good as last year, but getting Mitera and Kampfer back definitely helped and they've looked really good in the games I've seen them play since Feb. Palushaj is great and so is David Wohlberg. Is it definitive that Bozak will be coming back? I think a lot of Denver's success will hinge on that.

Might be too much of a hassle but, maybe try copying the link into another media player? I use VLC to play everything, audio and video. You can download it here VLC

3 - 1 Tech Who are the Sioux rooting for out East this week? Right now BC's beating NU and UNH is losing to VT. No ECAC teams of note are in action tonight. Go Sioux!
-
I would agree with Goon. I've noticed over the past couple of seasons that nearing playoff time the voters on the USCHO poll (coaches, journalists, scouts who actually follow college hockey unlike whoever the hell votes in the USA Today poll) tend to vote in correlation to the PWR, for at least the top 5 spots. I think at this time of the year the pollsters take that ranking into consideration when they vote and thus they seem to resemble one another more. It's how many BU fans will defend their current # 1 ranking to Notre Dame fans. Notre Dame has more wins and a better winning %, but BU is tops in the PWR, KRACH, and has a better SOS.
-
Yes, too bad it won't get here 'til the seasons over, but at least I don't have to buy one now. So . . . perhaps Zach Parise is psychic? link

I just won an autographed Zach Parise jersey!!!!!11111!!!!!
