  1. Here is the recruiting advantage: when we were DII SU had more money to give out so got more of the kids they wanted - I know for sure one high profile player that would have gone to UND if he could have gotten the same $$ from us when we transitioning SU had the advantage of offering something to play for (playoffs) when we couldn't do that - I know of another very good player who made the choice to go to SU over UND for that reason SU's recent success gives them an advantage currently It will take us time to overcome that but we are making strides and will eventually do that like we did by the end of our DII days when we were beating them on the field about 75% of the time.
  2. I remember hearing about Turner as a senior in HS and there was talk in Twin Cities media that they were shocked that Brewster wasn't recruiting him. He was a 2 star in Rivals and Brewster was too busy looking for 4 stars out of Florida that flunked out of school after a year or two. Not many other Big Ten schools recruit MN very hard except for the top 5-10 kids that everybody wants. They aren't coming to MN for 2 star recruits but you would expect the local Big Ten school to have some insight which Brewster did not.
  3. They listed Zach Vraa, Billy Turner, Marcus Williams to start with. Two of them are starting in the NFL I believe. I also found Paul Cornick with the Broncos and from Orono HS.. I am guessing they were all FBS quality.
  4. On Pat Reusse's show last week he had a college football guy on (don't know who it was) and they talked about NDSUs success. Very complimentary but spent some time talking about what might have happened if Kill was at UM two years earlier. They figured he would have gotten many of the top talented players that SU got during Brewster's time. I know that has been discussed here regarding the past and looking forward and generally dismissed by SU faithful as sour grapes. It was interesting to hear it from two guys with no allegiance either way and particularly from Reusse who has been very positive about SUs on the air and in the paper.
  5. What happened to Erin O'Toole? She might have helped last night.
  6. That is correct on the injury. I watched it a bunch of times with Tivo and nobody touched her. It was her right leg and the defender was on her left anyway. Just a normal basketball play. Tough break for her and her team moving forward.
  7. very sad for Banham. No contact at all. Her right knee just gave out when she planted on layup.
  8. It is on 963 on Comcast in Twin Cities western suburbs
  9. Banham is an amazing player and a stone cold killer at the end of games. I was at their game on Sunday and she started hitting 3s late when they were down including a step back 3 to tie with 5 seconds left. I think she will be a WNBA player Wagner has fallen out of favor lately for the Gophs. She only played about 10 minutes on Sunday
  10. I was at the game. The Gophs are built to pressure the heck out of teams with less talent than they have. They made us work hard to get the ball up the court and to get shots off.
  11. I will be there tonight. Looking forward to seeing green in the barn.
  12. I was at the Gopher women's game last night against Butler. UM played zone almost exclusively. We will need to hit some 3's to stay in it with them. Butler hit a bunch of 3's and could have easily won the game.
  13. give a D1 hockey team 3 shots point blank on rebounds and they usually score.
  14. I don't know what is right either. I did hear from one of my former teammates that had some limited experience in the CFL that he was surprised that Baukol has them all doing the same workout. That isn't the way they did it with the team he was with. He asked Baukol about that and Baukol barked at him and said that there is no difference and all players should do the same workout. He backed off and didn't question any further.
  15. Matt's father Jared was a Sioux football player and his mother Cheryl is an EGF grad.
  16. Great to hear. I'm a big Joe fan.
  17. and he is a solid source there.
  18. Go Sioux. It will be good to build on this finish.
