  1. Parks is apparently going to walk on at Minnesota.
  2. With regard to redshirting, I was trying to think of UND players from the past who redshirted for reasons other than injury and who went on to have productive careers. Obviously Wilmer, Brekke and Schuler did, but you almost have to disregard redshirting during the transition as that was a unique situation with very limited post season opportunities and very little to play for in the Great West. In terms of perimeter players, I believe Mike Boschee, Jeff Brandt and Mike Johnson all did. In terms of bigs, Chris Gardner, Todd Rypkema and Evan Lindahl all did (I think). I'm sure I'm missing some, but the successful use of a redshirt year seems to have been pretty rare, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. If there's a decent chance a kid can contribute as a true freshman, he's unlikely to redshirt.
  3. Looks like juco running back Cedric Simmons is visiting UND this weekend: http://recruiting.sc...c=1&nid=7268971
  4. Szczyrbak and Jake Disterhaupt were high school teammates, correct? Not to say that is necessarily a huge deal, but it may not hurt, either.
  5. According to a comment from the most recent SFI blog entry, Blake Weber is visiting UND this weekend, also. Not sure if that's been reported earlier in this thread or not.
  6. Does anybody know whether UND is still recruiting Raymonte Maynard? http://recruiting.sc...c=1&nid=6640006
  7. He didn't run track. Played baseball. Hard to believe SDSU was his only division I offer.
  8. Apparently Jason Thier, who coached inside linebackers for UND last year, is the new Mary DC, and Kelling was the only Mary assistant from last year not retained by Kotelnicki.
  9. Maybe I'm off base, but I've always assumed that the fact that UND and SIU only played the one time--Lennon's first year there--meant that he didn't want to play the game again. And if he didn't necessarily relish the idea of playing a Muss-led UND team, I really don't think he's going to want to play now that Bubba is the coach.
  10. Lavachek from Williston St. is one. At least I've heard UND is interested.
  11. I noticed that John Kelling, who was UMary's defensive coordinator the past two years, is apparently not on Kotelnicki's staff. Does anybody know where he is now?
  12. The Perham kid is supposed to be here next weekend.
  13. Sounds like an excellent first recruiting weekend.
  14. LB-long snapper Payton Jordahl from Perham will be visiting the weekend of January 24: http://www.gopherhole.com/news_article/show/328091?referrer_id=388419
  15. Tom Miller tweeted that the Knauf hire is now official.
  16. And yet another Californian does not stick around. Besides Goodman, the Mussman regime's track record with Cali players was awful.
  17. Yes, Nebraska walk-on King Frazier is reportedly transferring there. Was also a UND offeree out of high school. Will have three more years of eligibility.
  18. The other factor favoring Freund's retention is that at this level, I think it would be unusual for a new coach to not retain anybody from the previous staff. And when you factor in Bubba's history here and the fact that there are a few UND grads among the previous staff, it would make it all the more difficult to believe he wouldn't retain anybody. Just my opinion. It's kind of too bad that it sounds like Kotelnicki's hands were a bit tied with regard to hiring a staff. I think he basically just had to retain everybody. Otherwise, several of the coaches from last year's UND staff probably would have had a good shot at catching on at UMary.
  19. IMO, it would be pretty tough for Bubba to cut loose former players unless he's got somebody else lined up who is clearly better. Bubba strikes me as a pretty loyal guy. I think the responsibilities on Freund's shoulders would be far less than last year given Rudolph can and probably will working closely with the quarterbacks, whereas I don't think Schleusner had that kind of experience/expertise.
  20. Sounds like Drew Greely was impressed with Bubba at his in-home visit, per a re-tweet by Tom Miller.
  21. I think it was some kind of tryout for the Beez. Not sure of the exact details of it. He had only played in a few games for UND before that information came to light. And just like that, his career was over. EDIT: Here's an old thread about it: http://forum.siouxsp...en-eligibility/
  22. As I recall, Beasley was not even considered the jewel of that year's class of juco transfers. Robert Lolar was supposed to have been the star. I think Beasley caught everyone by surprise with how good he ended up being. He had only averaged something like 8 ppg as a juco sophomore.
