I think the board should be taking the lions share of the heat for this fiasco. The lack of oversight and a fair and equitable funding formula for all schools is what led to this. I believe if the funding issues are not resolved the next chancellor will have an uphill battle and its not fair to him or her nor is it to all the universities in the system.

Maybe you think its classy to call for a schools removal from a conference when that school has been a member of the conference for a long time and your not even it it yet. If you do that's fine but its classless to say it and I would expect better from a Bison fan. You can sit there and honestly tell me you think its ok when your not a member of a conderence to call for the ouster of a school who worse yet has a vote in your fate in acceptance to that conference? Wow if you think that good luck.

MplsBison you need to get a grip, hell NDSU isn't even officially accepted into the conference and now your picking and choosing who should be in a conference we havent even been officially accepted in? Why don't you check into reality for a while. You've been cheerleading the old NCC as a move up altogether conference and it was obvious that wasn't going to happen. Aff is right about one thing. 10 members is a hell of alot better for scheduling then 11 and I don't see the Mid-Con looking at expanding again right away. But for you to be so pompous to tell Centenary they should be kicked out is laughable.

Friday at 11am the Board is having a teleconference to determine Potts future as head of the Board. I think all the chapman blasting by some was misguided and Potts should have handeled all this in house. Now he maybe searching for a new job. Trying to strongarm the Board and Chapman may just have backfired on him.

I listened to the news conference and thought Scott Millers comments after talking with Gene Taylor were very interesting when it came to the GWFC. Scott questioned the conference's viability in the long term and Gene was asked during the news conference about the Gateway. Obviously he said our committment was to the GWFC but afterwards Miller even said the Gateway was in the footprint of the Mid-Con much better then the GWFC. I bet the wheels are already turning and if the opportunity arises for NDSU and SDSU to make the jump to the Gateway for football it will be a done deal.

At this point I don't care what happens up there. I only pointed it out because of what your university president said. Your right and I already said it in my original post that no one knows whats going to happen, but given the current situation and events I don't see Centenary or Oral Roberts doing anything. When asked about the conference Oral Roberts officials said they were not concerened about the auto bid or the conference disappearing. In fact they are not looking as that question was asked and they confirmed their committment to the conference and have no plans of leaving the conference. Those are not my words they are from the officials at ORU. Yes I am happy that it looks like we are well on our way to conference affilliation and I only said I saw your situation as a "precarious one" which I think is an accurate comment. Not once did I wish any ill will or anything negative to UND. I'm not gloating either about the news just happy which any Bison fan has a right to be. Its a major hurdle (the conference affilitaion issue) and to get to this point by most peoples definition its a matter of crossing the T's and dotting the I's. So you can take it how you want but its only my opinion but I think its pretty much on the mark.

It would appear that right now UND needs to hope that the Mid-Con will be looking at expansion again in a few years to get the conference up to 12 from 10 (if all 3 site visits go well and the current list of IPFW,NDSU and SDSU get in). Otherwise the BSC expanding east will only happen when the west coast schools are out of the picture and I don't see that happening anytime soon if at all. So unless some other scenairo such as the DI NCC thing was to come to fruition which I think is unlikely UND is in a precarious position. Only time will tell but it looks like waiting may have been the worst thing you could have done and DII may still be an option given you are not even into your exploritory year yet. Maybe kupchella will get his way after all.

It's interesting to note that when you recieved a large gift from the estate of an alumni there was a big press conference. But when asked about the Financing of this move its all hush hush no one wants to talk about the increased costs and the source to cover those increased costs. Your right that I don't know but using the history of your university its a safe bet its not from an alum or otherwise there would have been a big announcement and press conference announcing it. That would be worthy of an announcement so that the taxpayers will know they are not footing the bill for a move that is at least at this point financially not sound and on shaky ground at best. You throw insults and jabs at someone who asks a legitimate question, why not give an informed answer if you know what it is otherwise your posts are off base. The taxpayers of ND and all the other financial institutions of the State of ND have a right to know!

Long term or short term is doesn't matter one dam bit what conference they are in as long as the west coast bias still has the influence they do it won't matter. As far as the whioux, well who cares???

Most everyone up there is hoping that is all that happens because if NDSU and SDSU along with a few others get in and bring the conference up to twelve UND is left sitting out with nowhere to go for a while. The BSC isn't coming east for one school and certainly isn't going to support a transitional school through the entire reclassification period. I like our position and chances. On the other hand I'm not so sure that I would be real comfortable sitting where you are right now, UND fans can say what they want about the Mid-Con, you'd be watering at the mouth to get in given the alternative or being an independant indefinetly. For those who will bash the Mid-Con or argue they wouldn't want to be in it that's fine, I remember not to long ago how you said we were so stupid to make the move to DI, looks like your again trying to ride NDSU's coat tails.

That argument is getting really old consider all 50 schools or so that play hockey. Keep beating that dead horse thats fine but a championship in little league is not a big deal. Now if you were playing in division with all schools in it fine blow your own horn but competing with 50-60 schools not all of which are fully funded doesnt excite me.

Somehow this doesn't suprise me. Called it underhanded or backdoor behind the scenes or call it whatever you like. This just goes to show that again Fargo has it and Grand Forks or UND wants it. Your reply is hardly worthy of noteing but I did want to address a couple of things you said. First of all I never once mentioned anything about Chapman and DI. You seem to think that the only reason any supporter of NDSU could commend him for is because he supported/led the move to DI. You seem to just convienantly forget he's helped bring in more research dollars and growth to Fargo which is not only a benefit to Fargo but to the State of ND as a whole. Your whole post reaks of contempt for anyone who might support NDSU or Chapman based soley on your notion that they all are homers and only support him becuase of the move to DI. I would like to see one example by Mr. Potts of Dr. Chapmans alleged issues. Nobody even knows what they are as Mr. Potts apparently feels its not noteworthy of mentioning, lets just throw a hissy fit if I don't get my way. Before everyone starts blasting Dr. Chapman wouldn't it be nice to know what it is he's allegedly done to bring this on (other then personal dislike by Potts)?

Fine, the big difference here is NDSU can't change the status of it being a public university. UND can always decide not to be a member institution of the NCAA.
