DI IN FARGO

Again if your proud of a Championship in a Sport where just a handful of schools compete and you want to brag on it that's ok and I mean that in all honesty. The only problem with it is it's no comparison to any championship in any division where the majority of schools compete. This is getting off the topic of the thread so will leave it at that and watch with mild curiosity at the bumbling stumbling sioux administration as they try to figure out what to do or not to do next

Thats laughable, the jurys still out? Hell you know as well as everyone else its been absolutely the right thing for NDSU and has been a complete success. If the jury was still out then there is no way kup o jelllo would be considering making the move, of course he did say something like '"I want you to know that I hate the idea that NDSU even appears to be making a move ahead of us in any way whatsoever," and then goes on to say "I recognize that we may have to make this move even though ultimately it may make no otherwise logical or financial sense to do so." Yeah you guys are on a great foundation there with leadership like that and when someone like Nano or myself points out that it would have been best to hire a outside consultant to assure a unbiased recommendation you mock it. Beautiful just beautiful.

I've been following this thread and the other one on Bunning and DI and adding some comments from time to time. I do have to say I agree with aff on the one point of finances. I asked basically the same thing with no answer. I think its interesting how much backpeddling has gone on up North over the last year alone from the original stance most had about NDSU being foolish to go DI. Now all of a sudden in just a few years things have taken a 180 and its absolutely the right thing to do for UND yet not one answer on how to pay for it. Instead those in favor of the move try to divert the discussion with some comment about NDSU or SDSU or anything else but will not answer the question about how will they fund this move when they are already in the red? Well this is beating a dead horse since I expect no reply with any answer except for sarcasm or cynical remark. I will however continue to watch this whole process of spend spend spend and pay for it later, maybe......

Actually I'm proud to say my Credit Card debt is ZERO As far as the upgrades the BSA is in store for a big upgrade. I'm not sure what other upgrades your referring to but as far as Teammakers running ads, isn't that what they are supposed to do if they want to increase membership? I'm only pointing out that I think there are many unaswered questions that one ad-hoc committee who's credentials I don't know but seem to be lacking given the results of the report would make me wonder. A unbiased professional group should have been brought in to do it so at no matter the outcome or recomendation they had it would have been legit.

One of probably many reasons your in the red is due to title IX and womens hockey. Its a money loser and always will be there is no getting around that. Moving up isn't going to change that, actually increased schollies will cause more red ink for you. As to your remark about alumni support I wouldn't be so sure, your own study (take it for what its worth) didn't show the type of support your claiming will be there. Again you prove my point, its like saying I'm going to go buy something and I'll worry about paying for it later. In reality you have no way of guaranteeing that type of support.

I will make one point and this is not isolated at UND. Quite the contrary as a matter of fact. The problem in this country in general when it comes to fiscal policy whether it be government, business, academia, or on a personal level is spending vs. income. UND when you refer to athletics has been operating at a negative. Given Title IX and the hockey situation its no suprise. But the fact is when you consistently spend more then you take in there is something wrong with that picture. So to be looking at spending more when your fiscal house is not in order in the first place in my opinion is wrong. As has been pointed out by many whether you agree or not it appears there are many questions that are legitmate regarding the funding of this move. How anyone can support a huge move without those questions answered and answered honestly not by a committee put together to rubber stamp a move one way or the other is beyond me.

Once again you have proved the point about why UND is looking at moving up. Has nothing to do with what's best or right for UND only that your trying to keep up with NDSU Why can't your move or proposed move up be with the school as a whole in mind not just athletics? NDSU has grown at a fast rate in the last 5-7 years. It wasn't just about making our sports teams better, it was about the institution as a whole. I don't see anything in almost all the threads make mention of anything except sports. Its a fair question.

You obviously missed the comments of the Mid-Con commisioner Tom Douple. No way is the Mid-Con looking at UND right now.

Yes they are legitmate questions. Given the frequent posts by many on this board regarding the Mid-Con I agree with aff that it will certainly be a tough sell and I'm not sure Kupchella will go for it given his comment in the past about the difference in DIAA and DII. I think he may have expected the three team expansion theory involving NDSU, SDSU and UND. The comment by Johnnyroyale about UND's chances at the BSC are in my opinion close to being correct except I would have stated No chance given the travel concerns brought up by the BSC. That along with the likelyhood that NDSU and SDSU will be in the Mid-Con leaves UND with no travel partner.

Your post should have read "UND:Going nowhwere without NDSU and SDSU but still trying to ride the coattails"

So you have one Alumni who gave extremely generously to UND and you think UND has the corner on alumni contributions? The number of students at NDSU and UND are now with in a few hundred if not less so your big claim about more students is diminishing and will eventually be gone. NDSU is growing at a faster pace with students and will soon surpass UND. Academic prestige?? You have one publication that states an opinion and now all of a sudden UND is heads above any other university in North or South Dakota? Don't think so. I am very much looking forward to the future as we will see what happens in Fargo and Brookings as compared to Grand Forks. This mentality in Grand Forks of superiority is hilarious.

Yeah right whatever, your jealousy is showing again. You guys can talk all you want but your still DII. Don't see that changing, Don't see the university or the city growing like NDSU or Fargo. So talk about the BSC which is what this thread was supposed to be for but for you guys its a pipe dream. SDSU and NDSU which are DI schools didn't get in for two reasons, travel concerns and west coast bias. The only shot you might have at the bias part is Sac-State and wanless being cheerleaders for you but none of the other schools will even give you a second thought. Your DII, you can say other schools have moved up with conference invites in hand but I will believe it when I see it which will be NEVER. So go ahead and tout obscure stats from unknown sources about how great UND is, your still DII and falling further behind NDSU which is the premier school in the state. You can't stop progress and growth both of which NDSU and the city of Fargo have and will continue to experience. GF and UND, well good luck in DII you are where a majority of your faculty and fans think you should be according to kupchella and CO.

I know you didn't post the remark about the Mid-Con and NDSU but at least you see the bigger picture and can honestly answer a question unlike some of your sioux counterparts. Congratulations to you, now you just need to work on some of your bretheren up there. As far as what happens with UND I really don't care but find it the height of hypocrisy when they slam the Mid-Con yet play teams like Augie and UMC and Mary. End of Story..

Thats ok I'm glad you see that NDSU is Heads above the rest. Now on the other hand can you honestly tell me there is anything different about the NCC and UND?

This kind of thing happens at all levels the only difference here is that when your the premier Institution in the state everything is magnified so everyone talks about it. When you guys have a student athelete not make the grade no one hears about it becuase no one cares

You know I've read some pretty funny stuff on this board but this theory has got to be about the most ridiculous that I have seen. If you guys think UND is going to the BSC let me tell you about this ocean front property I have about ten miles south of Fargo you might be interested. I sell it to you at a really good price too. You guys get some cash from a very gracious donor's estate and you've already spent it on your dreams of a BSC invite. That is some good stuff, really it is. Watch out Cratter and the rest for the guys in the white coats, especially if they have a little white jacket for you. Actually you probably should go seek them out and ask for help, if you believe this fairy tale you've concocted then its time to seek professional help.
