  1. sooooo....it's past 1:00 pm there, and nothing has been said about the announcement.....
  2. the assist by Bayda tonight was apparently a damn good one. sounds like he could ahve taken the shot and probably would ahve missed, but instead led the goalie his direction, opening up the shot for Justin Williams, passed it to him and got the assist.....good goin bayda...
  3. wow......a 6'4" 224 lb. freshman forward? man i sure hope he is on the checking line!!!! he is gonna do some damage to some people lol.
  4. I was sitting in my Drafting I class, my sophomore year of high school. I remember everything going quiet in the room once it came on, and everyone being glued to the TV. Class changing bell rang at 8:55, and we all literally ran to our next class. My next class was German II, and we began watching the news broadcast again. However, our substitute, always having been known as a horse's ___ told us we had work to do and to turn off the TV. No regard for what had just happened. While the TV was off, the second plane hit. We whined and carried on to get him to let us turn it on, and once we convinced him, we turned it on just in time to hear that the Pentagon and just been hit. I don't remember much from then on, except being glued to the TV for the rest of the day. If i remember correctly, they let us go early. What a day that was. I can't believe it has been 6 years. Seems to go by so fast.....
  5. over here in North Carolina, we've known for YEARS that ASU was an amazing team that never got any attention. For them, this attention after today has been long awaited. 2 easy national 1-AA titles in a row. plus all the good seasons before....it's curious why they aren't D-1A yet. but look at another game today. (ok, so this is a personal side note lol, as this is my school) East Carolina University vs. Virginia Tech. Obviously there were some strong emotions going into the game today, and I think VT let it get the best of them. Instead of riding the emotion of the crowd and team, they faltered. A VERY strong defensive team normally, VT gave up more yards and TOP than you would expect of a top tier ACC team to give up to a bottom of the 1A C-USA team. ECU was up 7-3 with only about 3 mins left in the half, and then VT finally got a touchdown. In the end, VT ended up winning. ECU gave them the game with all of their penalties (11 total, most of those false starts). VT gave up 4 turnovers (1 interception, the first play of the game....and 3 fumbles) and their QB was sacked 4 times by ECU's defense. ECU had 1 turnover (an interception run in for a touchdown) and no sacks. but again, that mean't nothing. but here is another fact to remember with all of that: ECU's starting quarterback was suspended, so ECU was using 3 quarterbacks with absolutely 0 experience in a real college game environment even before. The started, Brett Clay (who happened to play QB at my fiance's HS) was good, but his focus on the air kept him pinned mostly. When ECU changed to their backup (i forget his name now) they went crazy. they tore through VTs defense, more than you would expect. He ran alot himself, and did mostly ground attack. But, then again, i think he went like 5/6 or 7/8 or something like that with passes. What's frustrating is that ECU was so good today. They didn't let the VT reputation get in their way of showing just how good of a team they can be. Just sucks they got so many penalties to keep them in check. was a good game to watch, but in the end, VT probably had to prevail, based on everything in the last few months. hats off to them for playing it out and not giving up, but seriously, hats off to ECU for showing VT and the nation that they aren't the team they used to be. the 2 seasons prior to last season they had a total of 3 wins between both years. Last year, when skip holtz came in, they had 7 wins, and this year looks to be a good season ahead. ok, that is all haha.....
  6. AH I HATE I CAN'T BE THERE. This is my second football season away from Grand Forks now, and I will be looking forward to listening in tomorrow night if my schedule allows it. Any possibility of free video webcast this year? or is it still only audio? thanks Justin
  7. not to burst anyone's bubble, but from what I understand, this is just the depth chart for pre-season play. hopefully he will stay there for the actual season. crossing my fingers!!
  8. I knew Gerry. Not to the point where he would remember me, but I had many experiences with him. I helped him for about 2 hours to work on that plane he crashed in. I helped him on a few other projects as well. I also flew with him once. Probably a grand total of about 10 hours spent with the man, but in those 10 hours, i learned alot. He was a great man, always willing to talk, and always had something to teach. He also was a great World War II aircraft restorer, and over the 2 years I was at UND i saw him finish 3 P-51 Mustangs. Thats a pretty large feat. There are approximately 15-20 aircraft in the U.S. and Canada right now that were build or restored by him and his shop in Wahpeton. Please, everyone keep Gerry's family in your prayers.
  9. Awesome that you got to see him! Did he say anything about the fact that he is back with the Hurricanes now? Gah I am SOOOOOOOO happy!
  10. speaking of what we all have witnessed......i think, and I may be wrong, that high glove side is all he knows. that may look bad, but it doesnt matter if he can score on that shot every time lol
  11. oh yeah i forgot about weekes. well, weekes is a good backup goalie. so jpar probably wont have many chances, unless weekes or brodeur get injured. Doyle and Parise both had almost the same kind of mediocre year last season. But it was Parise's first. i guess it all goes off opportunity and skill at that time....and yes, then there is the ECHL as well....we will see
  12. an interesting tidbit.....Scott Clemmensen signed out of free agency with the Maple Leafs, so do you guys think Parise will get a shot to be backup to Brodeur this season? at least some?
  13. hey, if I saw you in RDU i would say hey as well haha. Wish i knew who that was, would like to find a fellow sioux fan around here :-P
  14. yeah i bet he was upset a little inside that Briggs was behind him and not in front of him .....with Kane on his wing, im sure that line was awesome...
  15. awesome. wish he would have signed with Carolina, as we need a great defenseman to add to our core d-men, but thats ok.....GO GREENE!
  16. Blue Angels are great. saw them in 1994, 2004, and earlier this year. Will be seeing them again September at NAS Oceana, VA Click here for pics of the Blues from Seymour Johnson AFB, NC Airshow from this year
  17. hey, technically, I'm from out of town, and have been for over a year now, and for the 18 years before I moved to Grand Forks (was only there for 2 years) and i still LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the Pepper, even though I can't have it lol
  18. just to share some info, the Minot AFB will have an airshow on September 8, if anyone wants to head out west..... Minot AFB Airshow also, there is a show in Eden Prarie on Aug 18-19 at Flying Cloud Field..... List of Aircraft tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children 8-12 no aerobatics, as FAA doesnt allow it at flying cloud field also, will be more than just those planes listed on that website. always is. for anymore info, please PM me.....
  19. The KC-X is slated to replace the older KC-135Es. The -10s and -135Rs are still great platforms. also remember, Europe has a big hand in the KC-X program, with Airbus and Lockheed Martin (i believe) working together on the KC-30, so the U.S. isnt the only one that would immediately benefit from the KC-X program. Remember, the Brits are still using the old Lockheed L-1011 Tristars and Vickers VC-10s for aerial refueling, and are in great need of a replacement. what great insight. thanks chewy.
  20. you all ahve to realize that by "NEW" tankers, they most likely mean either the KC-767, KC-777, or the KC-30 (tanker version of the Airbus A330). Those 3 are referred to collectively as the KC-X program. the only one of the 3 that is anywhere near operation is the KC-767, but, if my sources are correct, the U.S. Air Force contract for the plane was cancelled because of some kind of scandal. That, in effect, leaves the KC-777 and the KC-30, both of which are close to 10 years away from being operational. They wouldn't say "new" to refer to anything else. GFAFB already operated the KC-135Rs, the most advanced KC-135s out there. so the KC-X program is the only thing they can be referring to. So, it's gonna be a while.....
  21. Not seeing KC-135s and F-16s sucks. But trust me. If you were to look up and see a Prowler, or ESPECIALLY a Global Hawk, or any other UCAV (maybe whatever the X-45 ends up officially being), it wont seem like a huge loss. If you think about it, it isnt really losing jobs, either. There ARE pilots for the unmanned aircraft. They are just sitting safely in a bunker or building somewhere. I havent heard any specifics on which UCAV will be based at GFAFB, but I hope for all you up there's viewing pleasure it's the Global Hawk. That thing is massive when you think that no one is flying it from inside. It's the same size length and Height wise as the F-16, but where it is radically different is in 2 areas: Wingspan (116ft compared to 32 inches on the Falcon) and Speed (max 400 MPH compared to 1320 MPH for the Falcon). I assure you, it may suck to not have afterburners tearing up your eardrums and the night sky, or big lumbering tankers flying around, but the mission that GFAFB has been called to do is one of GREAT importance.
  22. oh trust me i would have already put up a massive bid for the thing if it were'nt for the fact that i have a nice big vacation coming up that i plan on spending LOTS of cash on lol
  23. hey everyone, as some may know, i used to venture the campus of UND from 2004-2006 and then came back to North Carolina for school. I ahted finding out right after i got back that there was a satellite UND flight school about 1.5 hours from home that was only entry level aviation students, after i had already done 2 years of it. I have yet to actually go to the "campus", but I've seen N246ND (Piper Warrior) on the radar as coming around the airport where i work at, about 40 m iles north of there. It's great that UND branches out like this, and i wish i could have had the chance to go to the satellite school. alas, now I am at a community college just up the road from there taking the exact same courses haha.
  24. now i can FINALLY say i had a class with 2 guys who have signed NHL contracts. and i could pretty much say 2 guys who play in the NHL cause i dont see how Toews wont make it through camp in the fall. way to go Jonny!
  25. I can't believe Ol Lindy can't see that when Stafford doesn't play, they dont win......idiot....course, that's why he'll win the JA Trophy......he's so smart....
