So what happened at the beginning that made the game 4-on-4?

Yea, it definitely should have been a goal. Watching the slow motion replay from behind the net, the MSU player's stick never even went over the hole in the ice where the goal peg goes, so there's no way the puck went over it. It clearly would have gone in the net, between the pipes, had the net been in place. The refs clearly didn't know about Section 10, Rule 83.5.

That would make scheduling difficult, though. A school wouldn't know if they have an open weekend until only a year in advance. Then they'd have to scramble to find more games to add in.

DirecTV is indeed showing North Dakota @ Denver on Root Sports (channel 683) on Saturday night at 8pm. (Seems like we're ending up with quite a few games on TV in HD these days, even if you don't live in Grand Forks.)
