Does anybody know if there's any way I can get audio of the Moorhead/Holy Angles game tonight? I figure it'll be tough with Men's BB and men's hockey playing. Plus the gophers are playing, so that probably ties up WCCO. Radio (in Grand Forks) or webcast....anybody know? EDIT: Sorry, didn't realize this was just ND high school hockey.....but still...if anybody wants to help out, feel free.

MSU-Moorhead did that a few years ago (probably 8-9 years by now). They built a couple new buildings, and needed more parking so they bought some houses, moved them somewhere else in town, and put down parking lots where the houses were. Ever since I've been in school here I've realized this is something that the university should be doing. Whether or parking, or more dorms, I think it's a good idea.

Right near the end of the MNF game, they showed a promo for Nightline tonight. They said they are doing a story on the nickname issue, and they focused the promo on The Fighting Sioux. I figured some of you may be interested.

It seems to touch all the points that are necessary, like somebody else said. My only complaint would be that the word "probably" is used in places where it shouldn't. When discussing discrimination due to race, he says "but also probably illegal." And when he mentioned there are 400 American Indian students, he says "probably proportionately more than any institution of higher education in the United States." These things should have been further researched. Get a lawyer to find out if it truly is illegal and find out if it is the highest proportion or maybe just "nearly" the highest, proportionately.

For those of you with systems: I'm going to be moving to Minneapolis around New Years and definately will be missing the chance to go to every home game. So I figure if I can get a satellite system then I'll be good. First off, how much does a good system cost? How much for installation? Also, which direction does it need to be pointed? When looking for apartment I would like to know where I need to be in order to have the dish pointed in the right direction. If it comes down to it I'll just end up at the bar every friday and saturday night.

Any way you could share some details of how you play? Scoring methods? Head to head each week or season point totals?

I don't think anybody here would have any problems with the NCAA banning Native American mascots. Because those can be somewhat disrespectful if not done properly. The issue here is logo's and nicknames. Your arguments don't work anybody better than the NCAA's when you use "mascot," "nickname," and "logo" interchangably.

I haven't been a big part of this thread but I had to respond to this statement. There is a big difference between being treated as less-than-human by a government and having a school having it's nickname named after your people. Call it "whining" if you want, but I say everybody that marched in the Civil Rights movement had a right to "whine" because they were allowed facilities that were less than what the whites got. This situation, on the other hand, is simply a school with a nickname. That's it.

I got quite a chuckle out of the fact that Digger is our backup punter.

This isn't an argument that I really want to be a part of but PCM is right. Respect isn't given out for free, it has to be earned. Just because the NCAA is taking "that first step," doesn't mean any more respect will come. I'm not saying there isn't already some respect, but sometimes I get the feeling the tribes don't accept the respect they are given.
