Could NDSU ever compete with UND in Hockey?
BigGreyAnt41 replied to Bison101's topic in Men's Hockey
This is because the city of Fargo doesn't advertise ANYTHING. I lived in Moorhead for 12 years, and vaguely remember seeing little more than a billboard for F-M Ice Sharks. The city/community doesn't embrase the Bison nearly the same way Grand Forks embraces the Sioux. I was in awe when I came up here and saw how much support the school gets from the community. You go into Burger King on the north side (near Simplot) and all you see if Sioux stuff. Football helmets, hockey jerseys, it's everything. There is nothing like that in Fargo. Travel around the country and who do you meet? Sioux fans. It's rare, if it ever happens, that you meet a Bison fan or see an NDSU shirt even. I see more pride coming from Sioux alumni than Bison alumni. I recently went to a concert at the Target Center and wore my Sioux jersey. I had 7 (I counted) people comment positively on the jersey (including somebody yelling 'Go Sioux' out their car window as they drove by). Rarely do I see anything Bison anywhere except Fargo. I'm not saying this to bash the community or the school, but it's a fact of why hockey never worked in Fargo, there was no advertisment, and why hockey likely wouldn't work at NDSU, because the community and alumni don't support the school they way it's necessary. -
I remember that. That's when we all realized that Jordy was going to be wayyyy better than we all initially thought or realized.

The cameras are in a bit tighter now, too.

What was the final?

Don't say that yet.....

Thanks for the updates, keep em coming.

I believe it happened when the NCC changed from when NDSU, SDSU and UNC left, and UMD joined. There aren't any designated travel partners like there used to be. So more travelling is neccesary.

So they're basically the same thing, but with slightly altered rule sets? That's strange...

Never heard the term "box" lacrosse, always thought it was just "Indoor Lacrosse." And yes, that's what they play in the NLL (National Lacrosse League). Field Lacrosse, though, plays on a soccer field, from what I remember seeing when watching games on ESPN. And since its soccer they play on either grass for field turf (astroturf, like at the alerus, isn't allowed for soccer....because the ball would never stop rolling). So I'm not sure if that would be allowed or if a football field would be big enough. After checking the rulebook I found that the field needs to be 110 yards long by 60 yards wide. Alerus definitely as the length, but I'm not sure of the width, since a football field is 53.3 yards wide. It'd be close, but it would put the sidelines dangerously close to the walls. After closer look, you need 120 yards long (including space beyond the endlines), which Alerus still has. But width needs to be at least 76 yards wide, plus bench area. Maybe you can vary the field size in Lacrosse like you can the rink size in hockey.

Because those are the two teams in closest proximity to Lambeau. Makes perfect sense, really.
-
I'm not sure how wide, but I think they're only about 8 rows high. Maybe they are 9 or 10, but I can only think of 8 in my head. Remember also, they have to be able to be stored on the north and south walls when folded up, so they can't be too tall, but it would probably be possible to go a few rows higher and still fit.

The program is only in it's third year. You have to cut them a bit of slack. If it's still happening in another 2-3 years, then maybe it's time to start thinking....

I've never been a fan of the Italian Moon (then again I don't like the Red Pepper either.....don't kill me), but I've always thought there needs to be some more high class restaurants. Sanders is really nice, but something like Olive Garden (already suggested) would be nice. Some place you could go dress up and go out to and not feel out of place.

I agree with you on that. My big problem isn't that people are being turned away when they're calling it a sellout, because if there aren't any tickets, there aren't any tickets, but rather how many empty seats there still were. I'm just going to believe it's the fact that it was a Thursday night with inclement weather.
-
That's not the argument, though. The point is that they called it a sellout with just over 3,000 as announced attendance, and there were PLENTY of open seats. Question: Do season ticket holders have assigned seats or general admission? If they're assigned, then it's going to be hard for you to get me to believe that some people have season tickets in the top few rows of the arena, where there definitely were some open seats yesterday.
-
I have to agree. If that's what the place is going to look like when they stop selling tickets, then there's a problem somewhere that has to be fixed ASAP.

That was my thought in the first place. After most of the commotion direction around him settled down, it seemed he totally snapped, tackled the the guy who was hanging on him and just started throwing haymakers. A side of Spirko nobody had seen before.

Since it's damn near impossible to search through 37 pages, unless you have a lot of time to kill, and since this thread is here: Does anybody know, off the top of their head, how much it costs to set up a system? Parts and install?

After review, they moved the DQ from Spirko to Finley.

I would love to Alexander playing on Friday. At least give him a chance and see how it goes. If things don't go well, or Hak doesn't like something he sees, he can always fall back on a 5-man rotation.

Maybe somebody can clear this up, but does anybody really remember Zajac going to the box? I don't. All I remember is watching his stand around holding a Mankato guy. Well, they were holding each other. I don't remember him doing anything, or going to the box.

We actually did have a bit of it last year, but with the band up in the rafters it wasn't noticable except the couple times the REA played Don't Fear the Reaper.
-
No, sophomore.

Another thing they made not have made it to the TV, because of all the other goings-on.... Finley was in a shove match with somebody (I didn't catch which player) in the bottom right corner (trying to think how it would be viewed on TV). It almost got out of hand when Oshie went streaking over to the corner, shoved the Mav player away, then turned to Finley and shoved him away just as hard. This was before Finley headed over to the top corner to join in with that little fiasco, and clearly before Oshie got tied up. It was pretty funny to watch Oshie shove his own teammate away from a fight, though. Which is why I was all that much more surprised when he snapped.

Don't forget to get some of them to student section in the upper deck.
