Intense Politicking allowed Virgina Tech into ACC
andtheHomeoftheSIOUX!! replied to star2city's topic in NCAA News
I have a plan. Lets turn all the schools in this state into private institutions. That would get rid of some political nonsense. Plus, then each university would only answer to themselves, not to some other entity. -
See, we agree on stuff. I think we have all made our points. Basically, we all have different ideas on what should happen. It is good to have a place for discussion like this forum. Thanks Jim. Also, thanks for keeping stuff civil, Sioux-cia. But hey, I am still right!

Heck, it would still be in the Red River valley!

1. That is a dumb law. A limit on how many dogs I can have on my property??? Thanks for informing me on that one. I don't live in Grand Forks, but boy, that is a crazy law. I would hope you agree. 2. When I ride motorcycle, I always where a helmet. But like I said before, I don't believe society should have to pay for some idiots decisions. 3. I am not naive. I am trying to move the country in the direction I believe is best for it. 4. I think we can all agree peer pressure is generally a bad thing. But the solution to that is to change the attitudes of young people.

No need to try again. There is no limits on the consumption of alcohol. What there is a limit on is what you can do when impaired. You can lose your license to drive with out ever having a drink if you are a hazard on the road. Your argument isn't valid. Drinking isn't limited, driving reckless (impaired) is limited. Same as if you drive reckless by while lighting a fag or talking on the mobile phone or eating a cheeseburger. You will get cited for reckless driving for a whole slew of things.

It is very scary. It is a slippery slope.

Ha! That is funny! My cousin had his hat on backwards at a ball game once. And my dad turned it around for him and let him know his disapproval. A bird then came over and crapped on his hat bill. My dad made sure he knew that if he hadn't had is hat on right, he would have had bird crap all over his face.

You like not living a free society? I personally want to live in a free country. These laws all generally have to do with your interaction with another person. You can't do something that violates someone else. I believe I should be able to own farm animals in the city. It is my property. Frivolous law suits cost this country who knows how much money. Something needs to be done about it. I know I am already paying for it. But that doesn't mean I like it or agree with it. I donate money to charity so that when people have unexpected health care costs, there is some money there for them. Just think how much more money I (and many other people) could donate to charity if we didn't have to pay such high taxes. My not wearing a helmet can hurt no one but myself. I am not kidding myself. But I believe the USA can be better then what it is right now. The USA is also the only country I want to live in. You may bring up that smoking violates those around the smoker. Well, why don't you campaign to ban smoking all together? Either it is legal or it isn't. If you don't like smoking you should be working to make it illegal like other drugs are. But don't try and limit a legal product.
-
Yes, and peanut butter. And baggy pants. I don't like those. Same with backwards hats. I also don't like cars clogging the streets. Lets ban cars from downtown. After all, it is our safety we are talking about. I could get hit by one while crossing a street. I want a ban on advertising, oh wait, we already have that! I hope you guys see the sarcasm.

I believe the drinking age should be 18. Once you turn 18 you are an adult. Either you are an adult or you aren't. Non of this non sense where you are an adult but still can't do something. Children have several restrictions that adults don't have. What we are discussing and debating is whether adults can use a legal product on a private citizen's land (bar, theater, etc.) that allows it.

Yes, it limits your choices. But only because you put in a requirement that must be met. Smokers are being limited without putting in a requirement. They are being limited by the government, you are not. And for a private business, only the owner should decide what is right for it and what is not. I don't patronize certain businesses for a variety of reasons. But the private businesses should not be forced (by the government) to change so that I like them.
-
I choose to not be friends with smokers, to not smoke, and to not go to businesses that have smoking. And becuase of that, I will not suffer the health consequences. But people who choose to smoke or surround themselves by smoke have to live with the consequences. People have to be free to make their own choice, whether it is the correct choice or not, and then live with the repercussions.

Canada is considerably worse then the USA. Besides, that would be disloyal and unpatriotic.

2008-2009 Sioux Hockey Roster
andtheHomeoftheSIOUX!! replied to Chuck Schwartz's topic in Men's Hockey
From what I have heard, this new goalie is supposed to be good. And if I recall right, he has a good work ethic. -
I would rather see the game in ND. But a one off or something like that in the Twin Cities would be alright.
-
I get it alright. My freedom is being taken away. I do not support Medicare or Medicaid. People who make stupid choices should have to figure out themselves how to deal with it. If I smash my thumb with a hammer, I have to deal with it. I don't go to the government. They shouldn't either. I am not ignorant. "Tyranny of the majority" is true and real. And what happens is anarchy. Think about it. What are riots? Basically the majority taking over.
-
Smoking is legal. I don't care what the health effects are. Either smoking is legal or it isn't. No one should tell me if I have to where a helmet or not. It is about personal freedom. And we are losing it. To have freedom, you have to be free to make the stupid choice.
-
It would be fine with me.
-
Why do you support a ban on smoking but not on motorcycles? They are both dangerous.
-
Why smoking but not motorcycles? They are both legal. Why should the government or anyone else tell me what risks I can and can not take? I like to decide for myself what risks to take.
-
Well, for me personally, I don't live in Fargo. But have no fear, I am working hard when it comes to politics. And no, I am not waiting for someone else to carry the torch. I run my own colors up the pole and carry my own torch.
-
It is wrong that the government should have this kind of control over my life. It doesn't matter if it happened in a "legal" manner. It is still wrong and shouldn't happen. Don't forget that Hitler came to power in Germany legally. Yet, most would agree that what he did was wrong.
-
How in the world can you say it is fair? It is totally unfair that the government can tell me that I can not have a legal product (smoking) in my place of business?
-
That is for sure. You are right on. I decide what I want to do.
