I noticed this while at UND, not many seem to graduate at 4 years... Public universities pushing ‘super-seniors’ to the graduation stage

Yep, that's the problem described here: It's annoying, but easy to work around. I think the pattern is that it occurs when you access threads created in the past week in that way. I'm going to make another push to try to get it fixed this weekend.

A seemingly partially botched upgrade has left the forum with a few odd issues. Noticed so far-- * You may have noticed in your user profile that you have a "warn status" of 100%. (I think I've fixed this) * Clicking on a new thread title from the index page to see the newest posts results in a "cannot connect to database" error. Just avoid doing this for now, click on the forum title and navigate to the post from there instead. I'll try to get it all resolved this weekend. Enjoy your holiday!

There certainly wasn't any attempt to have anyone have any secret roles, but those titles aren't just arbitrarily assigned, they're actual security groups that convey certain powers to the people put into them. Members was the correct group for the account "The Sicatoka", because he didn't actually perform direct moderation, but instead helped keep an eye on things because he was such a frequent visitor to so many of the forums. He then discussed potential trouble with me and the mods and we'd carry out any necessary actions. If the underlying concern is one of "secret police", one rule that we all try to abide by is not directly moderating discussions that we're active in, but instead bringing them to the attention of other mods for a second opinion. That should prevent you from suffering any retaliatory moderation from coming down on the wrong side of an argument with a mod.

Oops, clearly another thing that broke. I'll look into it.

Fixed. As part of the improvements described here, I'm taking this opportunity to move SiouxSports to entirely new servers. As the first upgrade in over 5 years, its about time, and hopefully this will get us another 5 years, but I do break a few things so keep pointing them out!

The first result is in, and... Ouch. I'd like to pretend I saw it coming, but no way. However, the Caps v Rangers is going pretty much exactly as I expected. I hoped it would be more like 3-1 by now, giving us some breathing room, but Washington failed to seize countless opportunities in that 3OT. The maturity in coming back and out-blocking and getting better opportunities than NY in the following game confirmed that the players have really bought into the system and are confident, but it's still far too close for my comfort... Gotta win at least one more at the Garden.

Both USCHO and CHN have one page composite schedules you could use: CHN composite results USCHO They each get one or two games wrong per year, so you do have to keep an eye on them, but they're a lot better starting point than trying to collect the results yourself.

Well, here we go, with what I originally thought would be the opening series... NY Rangers vs. Washington coming up. As I said before the playoffs started, I'm pretty happy to play the Rangers. WAS's new defensive style was showcased well in the last series, but I think matches up particularly well against the Rangers. While not flashy or high-scoring like the Caps of old, a strong PP kill, strong box out, backchecking, etc... is what advances you in the playoffs. Finally, you can't help but think about goaltending. Thomas struggled this Spring, while Lundqvist has been pretty solid. A rookie slip by Holtby could cost the series; or a few key saves could seal it up.
-
All things considered, it was a really clean game.
-
I still stand by this -- Philly in the opening round would have been a disaster, Boston was beatable... (as likely would have been the NY Rangers)

Can't disagree, it's always a little disconcerting to see Hunter of all people complaining about cheap play. When they retired his number, they gifted him one of the penalty boxes from the old Capital Centre. But... he also hasn't been on the ice in over a decade, and it's a very different game and team from then. The razor-close Phoenix-Chicago series sure diverged and anointed a definitive winner... let's see what happens with the (still closest in NHL history) WAS/BOS tomorrow!
-
Ahhh... intentional misspellings of a team name and dredging up ancient history -- the true marks of a fan desperately trying to distract from his losing argument. No question Hunter was was one of the biggest thugs in the game... 15 years ago in a completely different era. What I actually said was that "Boston fans try desperately to defend their thuggy little angels", and you chimed in right on script. To continue to try to deny that Boston was one of the cheapest teams in the league this year is truly to be blinded by gold and black glasses. That aside, Boston has actually played a pretty clean series and it's been some really good hockey. Fun fact for those not watching... it's been the closest series in NHL playoff history -- never before has a series opened with six 1 goal games. Given the Caps' recent game 7 history, there probably shouldn't be much reason for optimism. But, I've really liked the defensive style they've brought to the playoffs this year, so I'm hoping they can reverse the curse and be on the other side of sending a heavily favored team to the golf course from their home ice in game 7.
-
You forgot Bruins fans, always trying to defend their thuggy little angels So, what's the over-under on total points for tonight's Pens-Flyers game? I'll take 12.
-
You should consider those all tied for 1st, and I should update the display of the table next year to reflect that. In years that we've had prizes, we've made it clear that they would be resolved by random draw if there was a tie, but it's frankly never happened because the Sioux haven't won in the 10 years or so we've had the game going.
-
Sioux jersey sighting... front row on the glass, zoomed in on him alone celebrating after Laich's goal (Washington's 3rd) around 14min in the 3rd.
-
Come on, he's just like Gretzky. Everyone just hates him because he's so good.
-
You're watching the wrong games. In the East, as already mentioned, both NJD-FLA games have been pretty good (though the first was a lot scrappier than the 2nd). Similarly, both WAS-BOS have. Both went to OT, the 2nd had 10 PIM combined in over 80 minutes of hockey, pretty intense offensive efforts with 44 and 39 SOG (though not a lot of scoring against two stifling defenses and hot goalies), and great all around play from the stars (e.g. hard hitting, hustle, and backchecking).
-
And it's done... as described above, no one picked Ferris to win, so it's unchanged since yesterday, but: final standings
-
Well, I (obviously) didn't expect this scenario... Boston in the first round, eh? I'm just a little less happy with that draw than I was with NY Rangers. Though Washington is clearly still the underdogs, Boston is also still beatable by the Caps -- unlike NJ Devils or Philly. Looks like Goon and I are going to be exchanging words
-
First time in my life I recall ever cheering FOR Philly -- with a Caps win and a Buffalo loss to Philly last night, the Caps officially snuck into the playoffs as an 8 seed (though winning the SE Division is still technically possible, which would push us up to #3). I actually wouldn't mind a first round matchup against the Rangers (and would probably prefer it to a matchup vs. #6 New Jersey). Coincidentally, we'll get a sneak preview of that series -- the final game of the season on Saturday on NBC is Washington vs New York Rangers. It'll be interesting to see how the teams treat what is essentially a practice game for the upcoming series.

4 people picked a B.C. vs Ferris St. final. Of those, mj3und pulls into the lead by having had 3 of the Frozen Four correct (only miss was guessing UND instead of Minnesota would be B.C.'s victim). While the performance scoring (getting the finals right) is the one that counts, I should also mention OLE YOULKININ's astounding record -- a perfect first round, 8 for 8; and a single miss in the second round 3 for 4 (also missing UND vs Minnesota). Since no one picked Ferris St to win it all, this year's winner is: mj3und

Another problem today, so we tried migrating the database to new hardware. We'll see if that does the trick.
