  1. The quote tags are: [ quote] = begin quote (without the space between [ and q) [ /quote] = end quote (without the space between [ and /) If you remove any part of either quote tag, its really going to mess things up. However, you can edit whats between them all you want. If the quote contains three paragraphs and you only want one, just delete all the text of the other two (but make sure to leave the tags between [ and ] alone!).
  2. It is his job to convince you he got a good interviewee that will keep you interested and tuned in. What's he going to say, "stay tuned for an interview with the editor of the nth best college hockey site on the web"? I'm pretty sure if Wodon or Brule came around, their sites would be the best for that night.
  3. It's logical fallacy day on the message board (I just escaped another carefully laid such trap in my most recent post). See, the trick is that by constructing this particularly criticism of UND fans, he gets to criticize us all he wants but we can't disagree or rebuke him or he would claim that's just further evidence his criticism is true. It's a sibling of the "when did you stop beating your wife?" logic trap. I think the INCH writers are just getting sick of UND fans' sharing LetsGoSioux!'s opinion above.
  4. I thought I had made both those points (I explicitly referred to posters "who don't frequent here", meaning from other message boards; and I introduced the holier-than-thou fan generically before saying "in this case..."). Philosophically, criticism of people who think their fanbase is better than others includes an implicit acknowledgement that ones own fanbase is not better than others, so must include such people (or is indicative of some sort of delusion or self-loathing).
  5. That's the part I find comical. Those very few holier-than-thou message board denizens who continuously criticize their despised opponents' fans as immature, whiners, etc..., but think their fans are above it all or their favorite message board is the model of civility. In this case, a very small but vocal group of Gopher fans (none who frequent here) declaring UND fans a bunch of whiners; I'm told GPL had plenty of whining on the same topic, and has everyone forgotten POI already? They scour thousands of posts on SiouxSports.com looking for a complaining UND fan to prove their point; that not good enough, they have to exaggerate what those one or two fans said and then declare that exaggeration to be what "the UND fans on SiouxSports.com are saying" (as if we have some collective mind). The refs missed a lot of calls. They definitely missed at least one UND goal in a one point game on Sat. No way to know all other incorrect calls, or how all of them added together affected the game because everyone would have played the game differently had it developed differently. We'd all appreciate officiating inconsistency to have a minimum impact on game outcome, but 98% of us seem to agree that there was no obvious bias in the calling and UMN earned a good road sweep.
  6. What a crazy trick -- bundle Robert Morris tickets with Sioux tickets. It'll be the first Robert Morris road sellout ever...
  7. Though the USCHO collective has amply noted its predictive shortcomings, I was very surprised to see that KRACH reveals that the two teams have performed almost identically so far this season. Before I looked I was honestly expecting to see a 5-1 ratio and my post to center more around we shouldn't read anything into that because 20-1 Tech upset Wisconsin at home.
  8. I agree -- there's a big difference between that "Sue Sucks" guy (idiot who registers after a sweep under multiple screen names to make substanceless taunting smack posts) and someone who has hundreds of posts of history of substantive discussion, despite those posts being generally anti-UND. However, with UND fans currently riled up and particularly anti-Gopher, you certainly knew you were going to cause a stir by choosing that moment to come around and tell them to quit whining (put the Gopher fanbase in our shoes -- I've seen the same thing happen countless times on POI, more than one person here can tell you a story of being eviscerated or banned for showing up too soon after a loss).
  9. Yep, the underage drinking story had no legs because it's easy to write off as "underage drinking is no big deal" or "players for every team do it" (the latter of which is certainly true). Players getting discounts or comping a bar owner for illegal access or gifts-in-kind is a huge deal to the NCAA, if the allegations prove true. For example, for the "shoebox scandal" (discounts on shoes for players), the Badgers were stripped of a few scholarships and put on probation. Minnesota is a different case entirely -- they're already on probation which has been extended through Oct 22, 2006, because of multiple violations. In the previous 2 cases the NCAA chose not to institute any of the "repeat-violator" penalties, but you can bet that if yet another infraction is proven to be true, the NCAA will have no choice but to throw the book at them.
  10. I agree that UND certainly wouldn't fund additional new sports in a transition. However, replacing sports in which we can't compete or make money in D-I with sports in which we may be able to better compete might actually bolster a transition (remember those minimums!) The appeal of lacrosse, compared to something like tennis, has already been well hashed out here -- fast growing, niche in which it may be possible to become successful, regional sport that's popular in parts of the world in which UND is already known / wants to reach out, natural appeal to fans of hockey -- UND's dominant sport, would likely compete against top-tier institutions (and a completely different set than we already play in hockey!) The idea is obviously in the "shooting the bull" stage now, but I have to admit I like it. I'm quite certain, as a fan of UND athletics, that I would immediately be a bigger fan of UND lacrosse than I am of its baseball or tennis teams.
  11. It's tough -- while there is definitely a line somewhere between reporting the news and appealing to base sensationalism, I understand how people find this newsworthy. I personally have the same feeling I do when people rip on athletes on the message boards: I feel uncomfortable observing the impassioned personal criticims, but I also recognize that the people being discussed have intentionally put themselves in a situation where their performance would be observed by an interested public. All allegations bear a newsworthiness problem in that anyone can accuse anyone else of anything. At what point is an allegation news or worthy of discussion -- when alleged or only when the accused is found to actually be guilty? The latter is undoubtedly fairer to the accused, but this situation was long ago thrust into public scrutiny.
  12. You can't remove your account, but you don't have to use it. If you don't want to participate in the message board anymore, just hit "Log Out" near the top and don't visit it again!
  13. Amazing game, right up to the end. NWMS drove the entire length of the field (and I mean drove, from the 15 to the other 20 in about 15 plays) in the last couple minutes. The had one throw into the end zone with 15 secs to go, but the receiver didn't come down cleanly with it. NWMS had one last chance with 1 second on the clock, it was caught, but the guy was tackled a couple yards short of the end zone. Final: GVSU 21, NWMS 17
  14. It's been a good game. GVSU just drove down the field but then missed a somewhat short FG opportunity. 17-14, NWMS, 10:47 remaining in the game
  15. I have a problem with both. The town is Grand Forks, so why wouldn't it be Grand Forksian or Grand Forkser? (other than Forkser being an entirely unpalatable word)
  16. St. Cloud St.
  17. How is someone from Grand Forks favorite food shrimp? Had you told us before the show, I might have even recorded it. Anyway, congrats to Nicole -- I don't remember quite running into her or any near facsimile when I lived in Grand Forks...

  19. While true, that stat is a little misleading. The tally is close only because the Gophers had the good fortune of meeting the unusually underachieving 2001 UND squad 7 times (additional games were to open REA and 1st round WCHA playoffs). The year-by-year tally of UND victories over the Gophers, 00's only since you think UND hasn't been dominating Minnesota in that era: 2000-01 2.5/4 2001-02 1/7 2002-03 1/2 2003-04 3/5 2004-05 3/4 I don't mind being on the North Dakota side of that list of results (references to National Championships in that era intentionally omitted because that information is so hard to tally).
  20. Now the D-I news / talk is definitely picking up in the football / basketball / community forums. Though it still seems to be only one or two threads per forum -- what do people think, is it starting to become annoying and dominate those forums? Is it time to reopen "UND's Division Classification" forum and kick it all there? Or is it still nice to have the discussions about each sport in the proper place?
  21. Update for the techies (others may want to stop reading now): I just finished setting up a second database which contains a clone of the SiouxSports.com database. The secondary one (hosted on a different machine in a different site) maintains a continuous connection to SiouxSports.com, replicating real-time changes (e.g., your posts!). If it works well, this means that even if SiouxSports.com died completely, I should be able to retrieve almost perfectly current data from the secondary server. I'll have to monitor the performance of this setup over the next few weeks to determine its long-term viability. Though the preceding step will protect against data loss, I was also somewhat displeased with the length of the downtime. I'm next going to look into ways to provide additional redundancy for the web site itself.
  22. Discussed here buddy. Just scroll up, read the articles, no need to ask the same question over and over.
  23. No way to know without meeting them on the field. We've owned them the past 12+ years, but as you said, they have added a lot of scholarships, so they'd probably have the short-term edge. As you also pointed out, though, a D-II NDSU knocked off Montana at Montana with an NDSU team that we defeated the same year... that's why they play the games.
  24. Sorry, don't know anything about basketball selection. My football info was true as of last year when I was putting together football playoff selection calculators (Bob confirmed via a playoff selection committee member) so I assumed it continued to be true this year -- obviously there's a chance it's not, since they've changed the football criteria every year
  25. With last year's adjustments to SSI, and NDSU counting as being part of D2+ (despite not being from an autoqualifying conference) it no longer hurts our strength of schedule to play them. Therefore, Buning is interested in restarting the rivalry, but the NDSU coaches are still bitter about how UND didn't schedule them when NDSU desperately needed the games but it DID hurt UND to play I-AA teams, so now they refuse to schedule UND. So, now NDSU fans can run around claiming their team is better than UND and speculating how lowly we'd be ranked in I-AA, despite us owning them on the football field for the last 12 years, because they never have to prove it on the field. Back on topic -- a I-AA game would be a great idea, particularly as UND continues to study their options. NDSU may not be willing, but there are plenty of higher ranked I-AA teams who would pay a lot more for a "body bag" game against a top-tier D-II team.
