  1. The guide that came with my F4 tickets shows the schedule for each teams' practices on Wednesday. I'm hoping that the practices will be open to the public. That may be the perfect Sioux meeting time and place.
  2. No one's mentioned this that I know of, but have Gwozdecky and Paukovich visited Robbie in the hospital? In my opinion, personally expressing their concern for his health and/or apologizing would be the classy thing to do.

Here are a couple of names to compare stats/play between The BCHL and the USHL: http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php3?pid=76337 http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdispla...pid%5B%5D=76545 I think the USHL is a more physical league and therefore more representative of the play in the WCHA (as opposed to other college conferences) and the NHL. I think if a player can play a physical game, the stats between leagues would be very similar (i.e. Smith). BTW, Wichita does not have a USHL team (Topeka used to) and what do you have against Midwest scenery?
  4. Hopefully he will have experienced the rigors of 3 playoff series and winning a Clark Cup Championship in the USHL playing for Lincoln before he plays in the WCHA.
  5. http://www.pointstreak.com/framed/prostats...67&seasonid=594 I saw Ambroz play last Friday in the Lincoln/Tri-City game. He didn't play very much. My initial assessment is that he's a pretty big kid, liked mixing it up on the forecheck and in front of the net, but didn't handle the puck very well and was about a half-step slow.
  6. The Lincoln Stars released Brian Bina and added Chris VandeVelde to their roster today.
  7. Speaking of Warroad, Kyle Hardwick was added to the Lincoln Stars official roster today. http://www.ushl.com/statistics/index.cfm?i...%20Transactions
  8. I have a feeling the following list of players would disagree with your assessment of Lincoln as a "hellhole". Robbie Bina Brandon Bochenski Jake Brandt Nick Fuher Adrian Hasbargen Phillipe Lamoureux Brian Lundbohm Lee Marvin Chad Mazurak Chris Porter Andy Schneider Let alone Steve Johnson, Chad Johnson and Mark Pivetz. Before you call my hometown a "hellhole", you might want to visit it first, or even take in a hockey game in our arena that continually leads the USHL in attendance.
  9. Sorry GDM. Didn't realize it would cause a problem. Here's a recap of the important information: Forward Jared Boll (USHN December 10) appears to have narrowed his decision down to Bowling Green, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Minnesota-Duluth. He is currently tied for 10th in USHL scoring with 18 goals and 32 points. An '86 from Crystal Lake, Illinois, the 6-2/180 pound Boll also leads the league with 191 PIMs. Last season, Boll shared the league lead in that category with Sioux City's Dennis McCauley, both of whom had 176 PIMs. Boll plays a very aggressive style of hockey that draws a lot of attention/ire of the referees, opposing team and opposing fans. He seems to thrive in those situations and also ends up taking the opposition out of their game. IMO, he sometimes goes a little overboard, but it's hard to not like the kid with the amount of energy he brings to the game. He scores a lot of "ugly" goals by taking the punishment front of the net, a lot like what Bochenski used to do, but he doesn't have Bochenski's skill.

  11. Brian Bina has been a pleasant surprise this year in Lincoln. He reminds me a lot of his brother where they both aren't very big, they both started off the year looking like they were overmatched, but made vast improvements during the year.
  12. I'm a little biased, but I hope he plays at least one more year (other than this year after his high school season) in juniors! I have a feeling that UND will want his services ASAP though.
  13. Actually UNO didn't start playing hockey until the 1997-1998 season.....
  14. I heard on the Lincoln Stars broadcast on Friday night that Brian Lee will be playing for the Stars before and after his high school season. I will let everyone know once I find out for sure.
  15. http://www.journalstar.com/articles/2004/0...ts/10051755.txt Stars, coach waiting for word By Brian Christopherson Steve Johnson's cell phone was void of calls from North Dakota area codes Tuesday, which is cause for momentary relief from Lincoln Stars' fans. The Lincoln head coach had brief discussions late last week with the University of North Dakota about the Sioux hockey team's head coaching vacancy. Since those discussions, he's been in the dark about his status regarding the job search at his alma mater. Johnson is currently in Canada watching youth hockey. "Right now, Idon't know what they're leaning towards," Johnson said Tuesday night via phone from Calgary, Alberta. "I'm a little bit uncertain what's going on, but I'd say right now there's probably a 75 percent or 80 percent chance I'll be back in Lincoln next year." That said, onelack of phone call certainly doesn't signal Johnson's off the list of candidates. He was told during his initial discussions with UND athletic director Roger Thomas that there would be no movement on the coaching search until school president Charles Kupchella returned from his out-of-town trip Tuesday. "Idon't think anything's been done yet. Icould get a call possibly (today), Iguess," Johnson said. The North Dakota job opened Friday when veteran coach Dean Blais surprisingly left to take an assistant coaching job with the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets. Sioux assistant coach Dave Hakstol was named the interim head coach. Hakstol and fellow assistant Brad Berry are thought to be top candidates to replace Blais. The departure of Blais immediately caught the attention of people within the Stars' organization, who know of the strong connection between Johnson and North Dakota hockey. Johnson helped the Sioux to a national championship as a junior and served as the team's captain as a senior in 1988, leading the NCAA in points scored. "I'd say that this is the one job that would be hard for him to turn down," said Stars' vice president Jim Pflug. "I certainly understand that. North Dakota hockey's been such a big part of his life since he was a kid. "It'd be hard to see him leave, but it'd also be hard to root against him as a friend who's going for a job he's dreamed of getting." Indeed, there is a strong bond among the brass in the Stars' organization. Johnson has been the only coach of the team in its eight-year history. It's been a magical run since Day One. The Stars twice won the Clark Cup (United States Hockey League's playoffs trophy), the first of those claimed during the inaugural season. Lincoln has only missed the playoffs once and that was last season. "He's going to be successful wherever he coaches," Pflug said. "Iknow Steve really enjoys Lincoln and the strong support the team has here, so the great thing is he's going to end up in a positive situation either way."

    Recruits

As long as you keep sending them to Lincoln for a 1 to 2 year hiatus between High School and College!
  17. Here's the link for Bina's stats last year: http://www.pointstreak.com/prostats/player...10&seasonid=184 He was injured at the beginning of the year, but by the end of the year/playoffs he was the main quarterback on the Stars powerplay.
  18. He probably would have been someone to look at until he got a concussion several weeks back. He was released by the Lincoln Stars last week and to my knowledge is done playing for this year.
  19. http://www.ushl.com/stats0304.cfm?id=trans...%20Transactions Some interesting transactions in the USHL yesterday.... Lincoln picks up Kyle Hardwick Lincoln drops Jesse Lindenberg (Grafton) Sioux Falls picks up Matt Moreland (Grand Forks - already have Kasey Moreland on the team)
  20. ...and the accolades keep on coming..... http://www.journalstar.com/sports.php?story_id=116869 Lamoureux breaks Stars' record for victories BY MARK DEROWITSCH / Lincoln Journal Star Moments after Philippe Lamoureux became the winningest goaltender in Lincoln Stars' history, he decided to go for a little stroll around the Ice Box. As is the custom for the game's top star, Lamoureux carried a T-shirt with him to throw into the crowd following Lincoln's 5-1 United States Hockey League victory against Des Moines. But instead of stepping onto the ice to wave to the crowd, Lamoureux did a victory lap. And when he spotted his dad, Pierre, standing in the Zamboni pit, Lamoureux made his way there, handed him the shirt, and paused long enough so someone could capture the moment on film. By the time he finally made his way down to the Stars' dressing room two minutes later with win No. 58 in hand, Lamoureux was downplaying his moment in the spotlight. Lamoureux, 58-25-8 in his third year with the Stars, overtook Wayne Russell as the Stars' top goaltender. Russell won 57 games with Lincoln from 1997-98 through 1999-2000. "It really isn't a big deal to me," Lamoureux said. "It's nice to have, and it's something I'll look back on years from now and be proud of, but right now I'm more worried about improving and getting myself and our team ready for the playoffs." If the last three games are any indication, Lamoureux is creeping closer to postseason form. He easily handled almost everything Des Moines threw his way. The only time the Bucs broke through came 7 minutes, 27 seconds into the third when defenseman Alan Dorich's wrister from the blue line made its way through traffic, bounced off a player near the crease and squirted through Lamoureux's legs. Dorich's first goal of the season cut Lincoln's lead to 3-1. Other than that, Lamoureux was his usual self. He turned in a 29-save performance for his 16th win this season. "Phil deserves the record," Stars coach Steve Johnson said. "When Phil came back here, he knew he was going to play a lot and he's mature enough to handle it." The Stars showed some characteristics of a playoff-type team, too. It took Matt Weir all of 40 seconds to answer the Buccaneers and end any hope Des Moines had of making a game of it. Later in the period, the Stars made it 5-1 on Brent Borgen's eighth goal of the year. It was Borgen's first goal since Nov. 29. "We showed some mental toughness out there when we scored right after they did and eliminated their momentum," Lamoureux said. The Stars built a three-goal lead early in the game on goals by Jared Bye and Derek Whitmore in the first, and Whitmore's second tally of the night early in the third. Both of Whitmore's goals came on the power play. By beating the Bucs, the Stars (20-15-3) strengthened their hold on fourth place in the West Division. Lincoln leads Des Moines by 10 points with 22 games remaining in the regular season. The top four teams from each division advance to the playoffs. "It's important that we try to position ourselves the best we can for the playoffs, but we certainly have some things we need to work on," Johnson said. "We're not quite at the level we were two weeks before Christmas, and our goal is to get back in that elite category."
  21. Some more accolades for Lammy... http://www.ushl.com/pr/20032004/20040116ushl.htm Lamoureux named Goalies' World Goaltender of the Month for December January 16, 2004 The United States Hockey League, in conjunction with Goalies' World Magazine, announced today that Lincoln Stars goaltender Phillippe Lamoureux (Grand Forks, N.D.) was named Goalies' World Magazine / USHL Goaltender of the Month for December 2003. A University of North Dakota recruit, Lamoureux was key in the Stars' mid-season resurgence, posting five wins in December without a defeat. His December goals-against average of 1.20 was among the league's very best as was his .957 saves percentage. Lamoureux's winning streak was highlighted by a 22-save shutout against St. Louis on Dec. 5 which helped commence Lincoln's climb in the West Division standings. In the Goalies' World Magazine scoring system, Lamoureux accumulated 102.80 points. St. Louis' Charlie Effinger (102.50), Cedar Rapids' Joe Fallon (102.18) Chicago's Adam D'Alba (102.13) and Sioux City's Jeff Lantz (101.83) rounded out the Goalies' World top five. Fallon claimed November Goaltender of the Month honors. "Phil is a third-year guy who has earned the right of a lot of playing time and handled it very well," said Lincoln head coach / general manager Steve Johnson.
  22. jk, Considering all of the information and insight that I get from this board on what's going on with the Sioux, the little information I can provide from Lincoln is the least I can do! I just hope that Morgan recovers quickly. He's a good kid and having lasting effects from post-concussion syndrome is not worth the risk of playing hockey again.
  23. http://www.journalstar.com/sports.php?story_id=112939 Stars' Simonson won't get to play again this season BYMARKDEROWITSCH / Lincoln Journal Star Morgan Simonson has more important matters to worry about than his future in hockey. His plans now are to keep himself busy as he finishes high school back home in Grand Forks, N.D., and shakes off the lingering effects of his second concussion in the four months he was with the Lincoln Stars. "That's probably best for me right now," Simonson said. Simonson's season with the Stars came to an abrupt end during practice last Sunday, when he took a blow to the head during a drill. While he wasn't knocked unconscious, Simonson experienced shortness of breath and his heart rate skyrocketed while he was down on the ice, Stars trainer Corey Courtney said. As a precaution, Simonson was taken by ambulance to BryanLGH Medical Center West. It was later confirmed Simonson had suffered his second concussion this season, and the fourth of his hockey career. Simonson doesn't remember being hit during practice, and only has vague memories of Sunday's events, before or after practice. It's the reason why he decided to call it a season. "It's frustrating, because Imade it halfway through the year and Iwas just starting to come around," Simonson said. "I'll take some time off and go home so Ican finish high school now. That's all I can do, really." There's still a chance Simonson, a United States Hockey League rookie, may be back in Lincoln next season. At least doctors haven't ruled it out yet. Right now, Simonson has been told to sit out at least two months and undergo further tests to determine the long-term effects of the concussions. But instead of waiting around Lincoln and trying to make a comeback in early March, Simonson chose to play it safe and end his season now. As for Simonson's future, he'll deal with that down the road, probably close to the end of summer. "He may be told never to play hockey again," Courtney said. "That's not out of the question -- there's still some hope." Simonson played in 24 games for the Stars this season, and assisted on two goals. But during the past month, he was starting to adjust to the USHL and was steadily becoming more of a factor, Stars coach Steve Johnson said. "We're going to miss Morgan, because he worked so hard," Johnson said. With Simonson's departure, the Stars will be short-handed when they face the Des Moines Buccaneers and Waterloo Black Hawks this weekend. Lincoln travels to Des Moines today, then returns to the Ice Box for a Saturday match against Waterloo. Keith Rodger, a defenseman-turned-forward-turned-defenseman again, will likely pick up the slack at the blue line for the time being. At the same time, Johnson is trying to bring in another defenseman to fill Simonson's spot on the 23-man roster. Right now that spot belongs to Matt Nickerson, a third-round draft pick by the Dallas Stars last season who is in the middle of his freshman year at Clarkson. Nickerson was rumored to be unhappy at Clarkson, which is why Johnson took a chance and added the rugged defenseman to the Stars' protected list. The chances of Nickerson ever playing in Lincoln, Johnson said, are slim. In the meantime, Johnson will try to bring in someone to replace Simonson before Feb. 10, the USHLtrading deadline.
