I think he's taken his defensive role seriously after some evidence early this year that he wasn't (and I'm not sure that evidence was very compelling). He's MVP material now, not to be readily replaced. Jason understands how difficult it all is, and I'm sure he's proud. I think I became more of a believer when he scored the OT winning goal against ??, did not celebrate, and promptly skated off the ice. He clearly has high standards for both himself and the team. And he's a sophomore.

This year the regionals are as tough as FFs often are. It should be a great tourney—more talent and good teams than there’s been in a while. Id just as soon play the strongest team in my bracket first, with the exception of BC—let another team try to upset them first and maybe avoid having to get past them. They are just playing so well right now.

UND probably does not want to get in a horse race with BU, BC, UMinn, or even Michigan, though we would stack up pretty well. Omaha and CC, though? Thing is, slower, less skilled teams will do everything to avoid it until they have no choice. Look, I am aware that I have narry a clue about such matters compared to many here. But that's half the fun.

Good question, actually. It certainly relates to team speed, but I think of it as utilizing team speed. Dylan James is very fast, but he uses it to push defenses vertically. Johannes does as well. Occasional stretch passes push vertically even when they don’t connect by pushing defenders back from the neutral zone. CC and Omaha both had success neutralizing our speed and skill advantage in the neutral zone. There; how’s that for full-of-shyt?

It does, and I like that this team plays smart that way. They could use more of what Kunz brings, though. They don't have to be big. Z Parise makes a living scoring garbage goals by being smart and tenacious. A little skill too.
