2023-24 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
burd replied to AlphaMikeFoxtrot's topic in Men's Hockey
I think it's great that this team has learned how to play a tight defensive game without taking many penalties. It seems to come from not getting into situations where they are chasing around their D zone. I also like that they generally avoid the cross checking/face washing displays around the net after the whistle has blown. That behavior has always struck me (in the last 15 years) as being more or less a meaningless display anyway, since they are not going to fight and everybody has full face protection. Despite not showing those behaviors, they are still doing a good job of keeping bodies out of Ludvig's line of sight--moreso in the last several weekends. One down side of not committing very many penalties is that the PK is not getting as much real-game practice. You just have to hope they get game-like workouts in practice. And continue to improve of faceoffs to minimize PK time in the zone. A bunch of the teams they may face in the tourney will have skills similar to DU. -

I agree. Perron will be big for us. I think maybe he is going through the process of being coached how to keep his shifty offensive game from being a defensive liability. Learning that one giveaway at the wrong time can cost a game. HIs skill, quickness, and lightening trigger will be a big deal, IMO. -
Our D really steady on the blue line. 4 shows willingness and ability to bring the puck out when they need him to. How the staff got this D unit to play this well is a real credit.

Hell, we'll be lucky to get in the tournament.
-
They will have to bring that level of play to get close. The top 8 teams in this year's tournament will be hella good.

Anyone notice ol gfhockey didn’t cheer when UND won?
-
You heard right.

Hope Montgomery has a good weekend.

I don't think Harvard benefits from a lot of hockey bias, does it?

Interesting weekend in the B1G

with the snipers we have with extraordinary stick skills (and speed), I'm surprised our 3x3 results haven't been a lot better. Gotta be able to defend too, we've learned.

Its a piece sung by the Ledge Choir beginning when the opponent scores its second goal.

May the Pipe Gods be with us.

Close, but with decent goaltending even a poorly coached team that never plays a full 60 can beat empty helmets.
-
I don't know what the smile is about. We're gonna get creamed by a team that is not only faster, stronger, more skilled and better coached, but also smarter and better looking. Sigh. Anything worse that 10-0 DU is unacceptable.

The national audience needs to witness hockey in the Lumberdome. Probably not a lot different than it was 55 years ago, except that it's no longer natural ice. -

This coming weekend is a huge opportunity to gain pairwise points without a similar level of risk (unlike playing a Miami or Niagara). -
So good to hear from you, Swami. (Raises glass): To a weekend of exciting hockey between two worthy adversaries.

No, unless he did so recently. He just stopped posting over on uscho hockey threads after some people were apparently getting personal. Wonderful fund of hockey knowledge, and he stayed away from the political threads, as I recall. He would post here now and then when UND and DU played each other.

Man, those first two lines have some puck skill. -
About this time I miss Puck Swami’s contributions to college hockey discussions generally and DU specifically. I don’t recall whether he posted on this board, but he added a great deal to any discussion he joined.

Every year Sioux fans agonize over Michigan getting so many chippahs, worrying over their advantage with the development program and NIL money. Yet there they sit in 5th place in their own conference (which is admittedly very good this year). They might put it all together for the Tournament, but the grass is not looking greener there.

They're just jockeying for position on that coveted Domination Banner.
