  1. Righto again chief. :silly: Tremendous arrogance to be honest, forthcoming and up front with a potential recruit. Better to lie and promise her ice time and tell her she should ignore all her other options. Gee, I wonder if your personal acquaintance is an oh so infrequently encountered angry, bitter hockey parent because his daughter wasn't Minnesota's top priority in her class.

Fargo kid seems happy enough with the recruiting methods. ;)

Scandinavia's pride on ice. Maybe you should actually take a gander at the UND roster at some point.

Dubber!! Back from your time out?

  2. There was a WCHA prior to 2006 however.

Of course there was, but my point was that when Wisconsin was the dominant team in the country for 4 years, they did not seem to be labeled with the kind of arrogance that was pointed out earlier in this thread.

  3. Not too familiar with the WCHA women prior to Wisconsin success under Johnson I guess. See UMD and UM history prior to UW championship teams.

In a four year stretch beginning in about 2006, Wisconsin won three NC and was second in the fourth.

  4. Arguing that fans who are more patient don't care about winning a NC is a both a red herring and a gross oversimplification. We all want a banner, but to oversimplify the matter and say that Blais has won and therefore we need Blais, or the same for Sandelin, is just knee-jerk frustration. I wouldn't swap Hak for Lucia or Eaves, even they have won one or more, nor for Sandelin. But if Hak does not show he can adjust to the smaller, faster skillset the team has now (and seems to be getting next year), it might be that they have to look for that young, energetic, and innovative coach. That is a difficult task.

  5. Last time I called out the predictability of Hak's team (RW 5x5 zone entries, etc.).

This time I'm calling out the complete lack of spontaneous play. Everything is shoveled back to the D, in every zone, where they settle it down, look around and allow the opponent to set up their trap or defense in front of the net.

How about a forward actually picking up a a puck and bringing it out of the zone before the opponent can set up their trap at neutral? I wish I had a dollar for every time I saw a UND center push the puck back to Simpson, et al, in the defensive zone tonight when they had a lane to carry it out themselves.

This slow, ponderous play isn't generating offense, and it gave up a bunch of goals tonight to a team playing quick.

I think Sicota's observation explains a lot of things. The Dogs were not outhustling the Sioux to in the first period, and they did not have more jump. But they knew exactly where every pass was going, and most often the breakout pass went to a player standing still by the boards. The Dogs were all over that. The Dmen are taught to hold hold, hold, hold, PASS. Watching UMD use the middle of the ice on the breakout and watching creativity their forwards used in the neutral and O zones was a complete contrast to what our boys were attempting.

This team is not big, and it does not have a couple of studs who can power a goal in the zone. I has a lot of talent up and down the lineup and good quickness and hands. Pretty soon, players like that who are told to grind it out and wait for a mistake by the other team are going to lose heart or get so frustrated they commit bad penalties. You didn't often see Dog players going out of their way to "finish" checks--they had most interest in getting the puck and making a play. Very discouraging.

Hak has done a geat job at UND, and there are not many coaches out there who do a better job of developing players. But game coaching is a different thing, and this group needs a different scheme. Grimaldi, who has hustled his butt off, IMO, must be wondering. And with the skill level we all hope is coming in next year, I hope it is not too late to see some hockey that resembles BC more than it does Wiscconsin.

Granted, I don't know shytt about coaching the college game, but it's becoming painful to watch.

How many freshmen did UMD have on the ice?

  6. Actually I would like to see a lot more chips of the glass than they have been doing so far this season. Granted I am probably talking about a different kind of "chip of the glass" than the kind your are talking about here. None the less, I just wanted to mention it The 2011 team made a living off the little bank-shot passes through the neutral zone and into the zone. I would really like to see more of that this year.

I think you're right--not the best choice of words. I'm talking about their repeated attempts to chip it up to a covered winger who is stationary along the boards.

  7. Ha

FARGO (this one may end the night early for ya:)

    KOBER

    ONE TIMER

    SANDELIN

    ONLY A FRESHMAN

    MISLEADING

Bonus word = END ZONE , yes he dropped this last night. It's worth 3 drinks tonight

    Please be responsible...go sioux

Last year the Sioux took ten or twenty one-timers a game. Someone must have told Hammer, cause they're not taking as many this year. Pretty unbelievable when your play-by-play guy doesn't know what a one-timer is.

  8. I was impressed with Duluth defensively. Blocked a ton of shots, and just played physical and gritty and didn't give UND much opportunity to get pucks to the net.

Does UND stay with the hot hand in net or go back to Zane? Tough call.

Stay with Saunders--see if he can put together two solid games.

  9. Take always from being at the Ralph last night...

UND gets zero momentum with speed heading into the O zone. Terrible transition from D zone thru neutral zone.

I know it's early, but I don't think this team can go deep into NCAAs playing a chip-it-off-the-glass breakout. They have too much quickness and not enough muscle for that scheme. I suppose Hak is just training them to take care of the puck and keep it on the perimeter and will open things up after they have learned those habits, but they will have to utilize the middle of the ice and make their passing decisions quicker to beat good teams.
