  1. That was my point.  And STILL has the NHL in a buxz because it's a dirty hit.  This has nothing to do with "finish your check", it has everything to do with "don't hit a player below the knees".  Spearing, kneeing, clipping...all cheap shots in hockey.  All of those should be five and a game.  Every time.

I'm trying to get there, but it sounds like you do not think it was a late hit, but all clipping penalties should be gamers.

  2. How about the fact that the puck was no where near Drake when the hit took place?  Does that change the game misconduct side of it?  If Drake has the puck, and instead of hip checking him off the puck, the defense goes low and takes out his legs, yes, I could see the argument where that was a 5 and not a game misconduct.  But, Drake didn't have the puck, was behind the play, and Moore still went low on possibly the smallest guy on the ice.  Dirty, dirty hit that needed a game misconduct, and supplemental discipline.  Moore shouldn't be playing in DU's next series.

The fact that he did not have the puck is a good point, and it seems like a more important factor than the hit itself, and that might deserve a game or more.  But it's more of this "finishing your checks" stuff that I've always had some problem with.  Drake had just touched the puck shortly before that, and guys get run all the time after they have lost contact with the puck.   I'm not justifying it--more hits should get called that fall under finishing checks, IMO.   Would that check have been a minor if Drake had still been carrying the puck?  Honest question--I don't know.

  3. That is your opinion and I respect it. However Brad Marchand's hit on Sami Salo in the NHL IN 2012 resulted in a 5 game suspension and a $152,000+ fine. His hit resulted in a concussion. Moore's hit could have had at the very minimum resulted in a concussion.

I don't question that, and I also don't pretend to know the rules very well.  But just because Drake flipped and came down on his head doesn't automatically mean it's a game hit, does it?   A good hip check will do that, and it wasn't a blind side hit or Drake would not have jumped to avoid the check.  But like I say, I don't know the rules.

Important thing is that he's ok.

  4. Lately opponents have taken lots of shots at Zane from bad angles, probably because of his letting some of those in in previous games, but he seemed to have cleaned that up. Denver attempted very few of those shots all weekend until that one went in.

I think it's also due to the fact that our D generally do a good job of keeping the shots on the perimeter but we aren't big in front of the net, where the garbage goals get picked up.   A lot of those low angle shots end up loose in front.

  5. Tough stretch run ahead, so we need tonight's game.   Western Michigan is really playing well.

Each weekend is tougher because of it, but it's sure nice to be in the toughest conference in the country.   Regardless how the Penrose turns out, the boys will be fire-hardened for the tourney.

  6. A finisher--something the Sioux need.  Does getting Boeser jack up our chances of getting any other top recruits?

btw:  the stereotype really is true.   From gpl:

As for boeser being a big loss- UND fans will probably take this as sour grapes but I've thought since I heard the gophers were recruiting boeser that, although he is a great player, recruiting another top 6 forward isn't what this team needs. Then again, it's what the gopher coaching staff always seems to think is the solution

meh, we didn't really want him.   :)

  7. There are Wisconsin fans that think they are still in the running for Jost and Fabbro.

I know these kids are in it for the hockey, and UND is a great school I'm proud to be an alum of.   But UW Madison is a university with near elite academic credentials and an amazing campus and town.   That will sell some young kids.  Their hockey sucks right now, but the tradition is certainly there--plus a more recent banner than we have.

I'd pick North Dakota, but you never know about the next guy.

  8. Lots of pretty names in that regional, but none of those three teams scare me, honestly. Sure Michigan can score, but they are horrendous defensively. Have they played a team that can play shutdown D like ours? Not to my knowledge. NE region is the group of death in this bracket, IMO.

And it really doesn't matter in the end, does it.   You have to beat the best to win.

And at some point, you need a bounce or two.

  9. I think a big problem with drinking at the hockey games is cops bothering people that are drinking and behaving well. On more than one occasion, either myself or someone I've been with, has been made to stop and pull out our ID's while drinking a beer even when we had wristbands on. I'm not sure how often this happens, but it is really annoying when it does happen.

Things are better now at the new Ralph.  I don't get carded as often as I did 40 years ago.

  10. Zane may have been a little off, but that save as time expired made up for it.  You don't expect to need that after a faceoff in their zone with 6.9 seconds left, or whatever it was.

This series lived up to its billing.  With UMinn and Wisconsin off the calendar (for the most part), we need some rivalries like this to become intense.
