  1. That's just great about Greene getting rookie of the week. I could only listen as well but he must have done a very solid job. Thanks for the info kr. I was curious what the coaches eval of Siembida's play was. Sounds like he did ok, but maybe not great. 4 goals on 19 shots is not impressive, though one of those was a 2-0 when his team left the ice. Need that goaltending to step up. Good for Brandt.
  2. Tony, it's nice to have you on the board. Were you pissed when Atlanta didn't let you play in REA?
  3. I think money is as green to him as it is to anybody else.
  4. I liked Parise's quote about conditioning paying off in the 3rd period.
  5. jk, I don't think anyone would take your comments as being less than excited. Just that you were not getting carried away with the emotion of the Sioux success this weekend. It's a good start. Let's hope they can keep it going.
  6. jk, don't forget that sometime soon the Sioux will have Genoway and Canady back on the ice. It is possible that will really help production down the lines. Listening to the radio it seemed to me that Siembida played a good game. 4 goals on 19 shots is concerning, but I would have liked to hear coaches on the air after the game to hear their comments one way or the other. But only 19 shots on goal? Great job, Sioux! I did hear the 4th line mentioned late in the game. I was listening for them.
  7. WOW! Sioux win the Punch Imlach tourney with an OT win over Michigan 5-4 on a goal by Lundbohm. This is a good win for the team. They have proven they can play with a top team. The deal will be to consistently do that now.... Sounds like Siembida played ok even though he gave up 4 goals. Didn't seem like Hennessey was critical of any of his goals. Anyone have any info or insight along those lines? Defense seemed solid. Sioux still suffered a few low moments: 1. 2 end of period goals. Ouch. 2. Couldn't get puck out of the zone in the 3rd resulting in MI goal. 3. All 5 guys changed on the fly and got caught for a goal. Ouch. Give the team credit. Seems like there is enough offense on this team where they can score at any time. That bodes well. GO SIOUX!
  8. Salmon Arm's roster shows Nikifork as standing at 5'8' and Murray at 5'11". Both about 170# Who cares if he is that small if he can skate and score. I wouldn't mind have Davy Hoogsteen back!
  9. As jk has cautioned you can't take a lot from this game but I at least am happy to see that we manhandled a team that should not be as good as we are. That is a good sign. More telling will be the contest with Michigan tomorrow, for sure. But today was a positive step. And rarely commented on was Brandt's shutout. That is a great accomplishment, even if he was not severely tested. He still stopped the first shot, every shot. Good for him. On to tomorrow.
  10. Question: Do you suppose Blais comments comparing Parise with Hrkac and Broten were not so much "hype" as they were calculated comments to help keep Parise motivated to achieve at the highest possible level? The article, and other comments have shown that Parise drives himself to work hard and to achieve. He is now in an environment with guys who probably don't work quite as hard to polish their skills (what I mean is showing up between classes to shoot pucks, etc), and he is living on his own. For one who is truly gifted it might be easy to begin to slide a little, relying on natural ability to still achieve at a high level, but maybe not the highest possible level (ala Fournier). DON'T GET ME WRONG! I am not comparing him to Fournier. What I mean as a comparison is that Fournier was obviously talented enough to dominate at the Junior level without developing the kind of work habits that would help him achieve at the D-1 level. By setting lofty comparisons for Parise, it shows the young'un that his potential is truly unlimited and if he achieves at a level below his potential he is leaving untapped ability under the table. One might say this is putting a lot of pressure on Parise, but Blais does know talent and if he feels Parise can achieve at that level, this might be his way of communicating to Parise that only he (Parise) will limit his achievement at the D-1 level. And to me, this makes a lot more sense than someone who is just hyping up a recruit.
  11. Saw this the other day. Here are specific comments that caught my eye: I like to hear this! Here it is again "all assigned positions" and "Specialty teams". From the scrimmage reports it sounded like he has a really hard shot. With his success on the PP in juniors, could he be a PP QB? I like to hear this. I don't think we can expect any offense from Lee but if he can skate and knows how to play defense he will be a very valuable stay-at-home defenseman.
  12. 10 years of marriage and your husband will know what the "doghouse" is too.
  13. kr, don't feel that way. Regardless of whether or not Dubay was trolling he is still the enemy and should be held accountable for what he says if it turns out he was off base in the future. Besides, he believes he is more of an expert than he really is. Chumming along with players because you have a radio show doesn't make one a hockey expert. I like listening to PA and Dubay mostly but when they get on Gopher hockey I usually end up shaking my head. Hey, he's a fan and has a radio show so he's probably no worse than any of us. Wait a minute. HE'S THE WORST SPORTS SHOW HOST THERE IS! I just haven't evaluated the rest of the Sioux faithful enough to know.......
  14. Exactly. No speakers here unfortunately.
  15. Hopefully someone will be listening to this game and will post updates over at USCHO so those of us at work and unable to listen in will be able to keep up on the progress of the game.............
  16. Thanks, GDM, that just gets my blood pumping.
  17. Well there is no doubt that other than a couple of very good games Josh did not stand out last winter. However, he appears talented, and had big schools after him. Let's hope he can find a consistent solid game. And if not he, Jake Brandt. However, I think Dubay was coming from an understandably tainted perspective. Weber and Johnson both had some good and bad outings last year. From what I read on the internet (always accurate, right?) and from an interview with Wooger I heard on KFAN neither of the Gopher goalies look like world beaters right now either. To quote Woog, he said they both had "some swiss-cheese action" going during their intrasquad scrimmage last sat. Reality is it is very early in the season to worry too much about goaltender performance, though you would rather be hearing great things vs. average to poor things. Regardless, I don't think you can make a drastic distinction between Siembida and the Gopher goalies at this time. Could be Dubay turns out right. Could be he will be wrong. I think it is funny, though, that Dubay can claim Siemida was the WORST goalie in the league last year but hasn't seen enough of the gopher goalies to judge them. I wonder how many times he actually saw Josh play last year? Probably less than he saw his 2 boys....
  18. A very nice article. Anyone ever heard of this writer? http://www.uscollegehockey.com/news/2002/1...0/07_004630.php

    Canady

A nice article in the Herald on Brian Canady: http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/s...rts/4250091.htm
  20. Goaltending sounds like it is becoming a concern. I had hoped we would be able to have 1 solid goaltender but that sounds like it is not the case as of yet. Blais does seem to have very high expectations for his tenders, so maybe he is just overly critical. Hope so.
  21. If I could just have Wooger's bald head under mine that would be cool. But Sprig's artwork would be just fine. Such talent, Sprig! Can I have it please?
  22. Somewhere Blais had mentioned the league cracking down on stick penalties. I was wondering if anyone had more information on what that would involve. For instance on the USHL site they have an "ask the ref" page and they explain their new points of emphasis regarding stick infractions. Does anyone know the changes for the boys this year? Thanks
  23. You know what the physicists say...if you throw a tennis ball against the great wall of china enough times sooner or later..... Yeah, put up the Wooger, I like him!
  24. Note to administrator. Please allow Greyeagle to continue posting but block that ugly varmint under his name. It makes my eyes itchy and blurry. Better yet, can you give me that same thing with a red circle with slash through it like a "No" sign?
