  1. I hope you ripped one as you left...
  2. That's amazing, PCM. Thanks for the link. This is what I find amazing about some of the anti-nickname types. Where does he come up with this perception? The term "Fighting Sioux" never implied to me that the Sioux were a "warlike" people. When I went to school there it meant a group of people who fought bravely and effectively. WHERE does it imply that the Sioux were instigators of ANYTHING? As for painting the Sioux as "peaceful indigenous people" I've read enough to know that battle with the neighbors wasn't always in self defense...
  3. I doubt I'll be able to make it to Sensers this weekend for the series, but I can't tell you how much I DO appreciate getting to Sensers to watch several games throughout the year. I don't have satellite and due to scheduling the last couple years I've had fewer chances to see the team play live. Getting down to Sensers to see some games on TV is a real "lifesaver". THANKS!!!
  4. I agree. Hopefully they'll work those things out over time. I hope/think they'll make the adjustments over time.
  5. I don't think so. If they do indeed use the uni's from the 1950's, they say "SIOUX" right across the front. Those are as "hostile and abusive" as our current uni's. I suppose there's a chance if we just used the "North Dakota" historical jersey's it could be construed that way, but really, the following weekend the team will be wearing the regular jerseys, so I don't think anyone could make any headway with that argument. I'm not worried about it, and I for one enjoy seeing the old jerseys.
  6. Thank you as always, PCM! Great to hear that Kaip played well this weekend. To be honest, it's probably not best that he was our best player this weekend. However, it's super to hear that he appears to be "back on his feet" after his injury last year. That should really help solidify the depth in the lineup. Also good to hear that the young D made some progress over the weekend. After a learning series on the road, it should be helpful to have a home series against a team that shouldn't be dominating. The team should be competitive with NE and that should provide a good environment for the newer guys to gain confidence. I also like that Hak isn't allowing the excuse of a "young team". The team is accountable to win.
  7. Wow. The NCAA says its governance shall apply to basic athletics issues only. Not how members conduct themselves in other ways. The NCAA will not set up policies that discriminate, or encourage members to discriminate, yet each member institution is to set up their own policies regarding discrimination. Yet the NCAA has come forth with a policy that arbitrarily judges which member institutions are being "hostile and abusive", and penalizes them for this. I can now understand why Pres. Kupchella felt that his best chance of winning an appeal through the NCAA is with the Council of Presidents. All presidents of member institutions should be VERY wary of the NCAA acting out of the boundaries of its own constitution.
  8. Couple of small, talented speedsters that will be flying around on that rink.
  9. Last night Clement said that in the first 40 games of this season, there were 15 games where a team came from behind and won in the 3rd period. Last season under the old rules, there were only 2 games of the first 40 that worked out that way. As he said "it was a 2 period game!".
  10. Hockey AND pheasant season. Oh, and Ducktober for some others. Good staff Farce!
  11. Not taking anything away from the 3 guys you mentioned or Lucia, but they are completely different types of D men than Finley, Jones, etc. I believe Rick specifically pointed out "big" physical defensemen.
  12. I watched the 3rd period of Pittsburgh and Buffalo on OLN tonite while I was on the stair climber getting ready for pheasant season. This is the first non-Wild pro hockey game I've watched for more than a couple of minutes. I have to say I was even entertained. I'm going to have to start watching pro hockey again. Vanek had the puck a couple of times and I thought for sure it would be a goal, but he was stopped on both chances. Sid Crosby was excellent to watch. Man, that kid can play. He just needs some more strength. It's fun to watch a game and see a number of college players i.e. Ryan Malone, Vanek, Miller (goalie), etc. Can't wait for a Devils or Senators game now.
  13. And he's in the top 10 in goals scored. I think there are about 4 guys tied at 8.
  14. Heck, who can blame anyone for questioning the loss yesterday? After the Manitoba game, who could have guessed we would lose? Great comments, jk. It's a young season so far and the water still hasn't dried behind the ears of 1/2 of our team. If Lucia has shown anything, it's that you don't have to win every game early in the year if you are putting your team and players in a position where the coaches are learning about the players, and the players are learning what to do. The rest will take care of itself. As has been said so often, there are going to be some lumps, and where everything may have come together against Manitoba, and goaltending may have glossed over some weaknesses against Miami, apparently offense also fell flat for a game against Michigan. That's going to happen from time to time, hopefully not too much.
  15. Last night Jordy made things look better than they probably were, though there were postive signs. Today it appears the defense struggled some, and the offense was not there to bail them out. It's on the 3rd game they've played, and they've practiced a whole week. 13 rookies,. and this kind of stuff is expected. Let's just see how things work themselves out over the next couple of months and not worry too much about a game this early in the season. If anything, this game is a dose of reality. Probably a good one for many of us, considering the positive start to the season. Last night Jordy's play allowed the freshmen defensemen to get some experience without panicking. Today all the players found out that if they don't play well, the team will lose. Will be interesting to see how they rebound.
  16. Did I read that Miami had 31 of their 37 shots in the first 2 periods? That would mean in the 3rd period, when they should have been peppering the net to tie up the game, they only managed 6. Hopefully that's a sign that the rookies were catching up to the game a bit.
  17. Very encouraged with the play of special teams so far. Usually we're still looking through the lockeroom for the power play for most of the early season. PK was also very effective, and Parise must get a lot of credit for that, but the freshmen appear to have been involved in a lot of penalty killing and got the job done too. Great to hear about Duncan's great pass to Oshie for the 2nd goal. Hak was very complimentary how the freshmen worked the puck on that goal. I think Lee got the 2nd assist?? The Sioux will pay for all these penalties, but they should also continue to get better as time goes on. They are building from a pretty decent position it seems.
  18. I guess you can tell this guy isn't a Sioux.
  19. Toews hits another pipe. Has a Jason Notermann Hat Trick!
  20. Considering the youth, especially on D that's not much of a surprise, though. The interesting thing will be how quickly they learn from these experiences?
