  1. I can't believe no one has posted this Nick Coleman piece yet. Maybe everyone was just too disgusted to do it. Wrong. They never said we had to quit using the name. How is this "Jahnke's deal"? Don't the 2 parties make a deal in a case like this? The judge doesn't propose the terms, does he? What is Coleman afraid of? That the Tribes might actually see some benefit to UND using the nickname and decide to give their approval? God forbid they have that choice. Coleman then quotes Clay Jenkinson, a professor at Dickinson State and Coleman says of Jenkinson The quote in question: Whoa whoa whoa. The Sioux elders granted permission to UND to use the nickname back in the '30's, did they not? If so, UND had that consent at one time at least. If the Tribes want to reneg on that permission, it is unfair to put them in the position of being responsible to do so? How is that unfair again? Is it for the white man to make these decisions for the tribes? If so, what does that say about our perceptions of the Indians ability to make decisions for themselves. Who is holding the Indian in low regard here? I'm curious how Coleman knows this so well, considering Archie Fool Bear's letter to Kubchella telling him of the vote that overwhelmingly showed support for the nickname in the tribal membership.
  2. You need to learn the difference between someone arguing your points with you, and someone taking a shot at Radke. I just don't think you can compare Radke to some of these other players. You are right that Radke is his own player, and has his own value to the team. When Hak puts him in the lineup I don't criticize Hak for doing so.
  3. I saw that too and have noted the lack of comments from the red side. That's my take on the video as well. It's pretty clear.
  4. Prpich killed penalties and was able to score from time to time. As jk has already pointed out, Archibald had MANY talents to offset untimely or stupid penalties. I'm not sure either of these are good comparisons.
  5. Some people just don't know how to play along.
  6. I hardly believe UND's use of the Fighting Sioux nickname is keeping alive the history of the Sioux nation. Personally, I think one of the problems we've had in winning this battle is the idea that we are somehow tied, or honoring, the current Sioux culture. We picked a nickname that identifies with the Sioux warrior of 150 years ago. People don't know who the Sioux people are, or what their history is because of UND's sports teams. That's way too arrogant.
  7. I don't agree with this. I am no legal expert but I don't believe "new nickname and logo" automatically means you can't go without. I think it just means that whatever new choice UND makes after deciding to drop the Fighting Sioux nickname would not violate the NCAA policy.
  8. Thanks Pat. I was going to look that up later if I had the time. My confusion with "charging" has always been "distance travelled". How do you penalize a guy for skating to the guy with the puck and them hitting him when you get there? If the guy has the puck aren't you supposed to go and get the puck away? Isn't hitting the guy part of the deal? I can see it if the guy is sitting on the glass and you take strides all the way across the ice building up steam and momentum, but Kaip glided at least half way across the width of the ice (remember this is olympic ice too), and IMO only took steps to align himself with the target. Those don't appear to be steps to ratchet up the contact. That's why I don't understand charging being called in this instance. A few years ago Jack Johnson was called on a similar infraction and everyone called it a dirty hit. He jumped off the bench and took strides half way across the rink, stopped striding and glided the rest of the way and hit the guy on the far boards. What was he supposed to do? I don't know what Kaip was supposed to do in that scenario.
  9. City/State you were born and where you live now? Born in Breckenridge, MN, grew up in Fergus Falls, MN and Milbank, SD. Live in Mpls. Did you attend UND? '84-'87 Favorite current sioux player? Duncan and Chorney and Kaip Favorite all time sioux player/s? I don't know how to pick one. Toews, Spiewak, Panzer, Hrkac....insert name here. Favorite all time NON sioux WCHA player and team? Never felt an affinity for another team's player but loved to hate Pat Michelletti back in the day. That's probably a form of flattery. Currently like Duluth as my #2 team. Great city and I love that neck of the woods (lake). Are you a season ticket holder? No. Get up for 1 series a year. Try to catch them in a couple locations closer to Mpls if possible. Yep, train leaves for the old stomping grounds at 6am tomorrow! I don't think my dog will sleep tonite.
  10. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You're funny. Others have already covered this. Kaip glided from most of the way around the net, and took 2 small strides to set himself up for the hit. Whether the game was almost over or not doesn't matter as 2-3 minutes does not make a 3 goal lead safe. Turris put his head down and left himself wide open for a rocking, which he got. This is probably no more severe a collision than had he been carrying the puck through the neutral zone and been rocked out there. His own speed in that case would have made it worse. Maybe this was a charge and maybe it wasn't. I don't know the rules but personally I think it's borderline. But it was far from a CFB type hit. I thought the same thing when I watched the vids.
  11. Saw it was you and ignored it. Just kidding. I was busy with some other stuff and didn't see it until I came back and tried the other browser. I'm busy packing to go west to see your outfitter brother.
  12. For some reason I can't listen to the KFGO feed in my AOL browser, but if I open IE I'm able to listen just fine. FYI
  13. Bummer, first time ever I've had trouble with the audiocast. Can't get the UND or KFGO feeds to work.
  14. You, of all people, I understand that. I was mostly reacting to the level of frustration that was becoming evident by others. I'm glad to read this morning that Hakstol was mostly happy with the effort. Hopefully tomorrow the Badgers pay the piper.
  15. I'm glad the "fire Hakstols" are out already, because now I know everything will be alright!
  16. I don't know if Jacobs has an accurate take on the situation or not. For instance, didn't Buning report to Kupchella until just a few months ago? If I recall, the letter of praise that Kupchella wrote was praise for things that had happened within the department, not necessarily praise for the job Buning did. Still, Jacobs point may be right on, but I don't think he's helping the situation with how he has portrayed things.
  17. Or poor work habits. Did you hear/read Hakstol's comments on the coaches show. Wasn't that hard to read between the lines.
  18. It is not uncommon for early round interviewing for high profile positions to take place in a more central location. This applies in business as well.
  19. I'm a game time decision on both games this weekend, but hope to see at least one.
  20. He and that forward, Traffic, sure seem to play for a lot of teams.
  21. From outward appearances, this seems a very ugly situation. It's got to be hard to get the next job with a situation like this in your wake, whether you are or are not to blame. Therefore, it seems wise and intelligent to bury as many hatchets as possible on the way out.
  22. Understood. At the same time people may look at UND giving money to the tribes (in a hypothetical agreement) as a bribe, or blood money in some sense, and I don't see it that way.
