So? If they used your photo on the cover of Bison Weekly, wouldn't you be compensated? Should we look sideways at the $ given you for your image?

Yes, that one. "Horse" was one of the best too.

Not much of a girlfriend....

Songs like this and Night Train (the Stripper) were one big reason I was in pep band in high school.
-
Reminds me of a Supertramp song.

When I moved down to the Cities in 1988 (or shortly thereafter) there was a band in the Cities called the Speed Kings who did the best rendition of that song I've ever heard. Man they were a great band... And I agree, that's a top notch song. I also really like Chicago, but not the later stuff as much.

I'm not going to search back right now but if I'm not mistaken, didn't Kupchella talk about a contingent of ranking members of the SR tribe come and visit during the MN hockey series last year, and come away with a different (and more positive) impression of things here than they had been lead to believe back home? This gives me some hope that with some communication and first hand experiences there is room for that approval.
-
I agree 60%. If the SR council was so dead set against giving their approval, why did they even come to UND? Wouldn't that be a big waste of time? Why didn't they say "hey, if you want to talk to us you can come out here"? Did they come out so they could get some more of the white man's alcohol (was it David Gipp that made that comment? I forget). I doubt it. I have no problem reaching out to see if there is an opportunity for an agreement. The NCAA put us in this position, not the Tribes themselves. Let's feel out the situation and go from there. I don't want to pander to the Tribes either, but you know the old saying "everything's for sale at the right price". Let's find out what it would take.

A couple of times I've heard or read Hakstol being critical that certain members of the team are not putting forth full efforts. THAT is what disappoints me about any Sioux team. Like Siouxpuckster said, I can accept losing when the team works hard and the effort is there, but the other team is just better. I have a harder time accepting it if the Sioux don't put forth a full effort. From reading Hakstol's comments after Saturday's game, it seems he wasn't very happy with the performance on Saturday.

In his blaze orange UND hat SoDak Sioux Fan can be easily mistaken for a wiley rooster! I think he's scheduled for an official visit to REA in January for the Tech series, but maybe that's going to be too late...
-
I've already got a recruiting/scouting visit scheduled for next week. We'll see if he has any game left.

I think they are pretty confident in gopher land of getting Budish and Mattson. Reading those tea leaves I think it's unlikely either end up with the Sioux.

I heard Prp's out of the country. In that case, the cat will play....

Try to win THAT one in the court of public opinion.

In reading the settlement agreement, I would like to discuss the section that discusses UND's options in case we decide to forgoe using the Fighting Sioux nickname. Some have said that the agreement mandates using a new nickname and logo. When I read it, I can see how others get that understanding. I don't think it mandates a new nickname, however, I think it's just the terminology used. I think if UND decides to just go with the University of North Dakota, and puts something like that on the uni's, I think that qualifies as a "logo". Therefore, I don't know that a nickname is required along with that logo. I think when the settlement talks about "If UND does not adopt a new nickname and logo..." I think that refers to UND deciding to keep the Fighting Sioux nickname and/or logo even if the tribes refuse approval. I don't believe that requires a new nickname. I still think UND can go without either if they wish.
-
I don't think keeping the name if the tribes refuse approval is not a smart move. If you think public opinion is against UND's use now, just wait until then. UND agreed to a settlement that says we have three years to work with the tribes on approval. If we don't get approval at that time and still keep the name, it will be hard to justify.

If I was ever happy to lose a game, I guess it was last Friday's. Good luck to the kid. I can only imagine how difficult something like this must be for a parent.

Too early, IMO.

My buddy and I commented that all the gopher fans were filing out with 5 minutes left.

By the way, it's time for your Irish cousins to start a complaint campaign with the NCAA about the hostile and abusive nickname and logo at Notre Dame. I would really like to see this nickname policy "worm" turn.

One thing I've learned in my line of work is that you never get what you don't ask for....

Exactly. Like we should give a rat's ass what anyone else thinks if the tribes are happy? It's what they've told us to do all along. Just because the tribes wouldn't end up validating their position is no reason for us to care. It's one reason why I'd like to see UND be aggressive in securing that approval. Stick it to all of the NCAA'ers, and in the meantime increase the positive for the tribes, and ultimately UND by putting the issue to rest. Naturally, we can't be living year to year, so we're going to need to see some sort of long-term arrangement.

Was at the game tonite thanks to my buddy who scored tickets. After a pregame meal of BBQ ribs at Rooster's we headed down to the X. It was a fun game. Crosby et al were all they were billed to be. One perception I had is that there was less hitting in this game than in a Sioux hockey game. I watch a few games on TV here and there, and have only seen 1 live game since the rules change. Have they removed the hitting? There were only a couple of good hits. I think in college 2 physical teams would hit that much in 1 period. I'd like to see the pros play on Olympic ice.

I've thought the same thing. I don't see financial compensation as blackmail, etc. If someone uses your photo for the cover of a magazine, you get paid. Therefore, I don't think there's anything to be ashamed of if UND works out financial compensation of some sort. I do believe there are better ways to benefit the tribes, but I guess it is up to them to decide what, if anything, they would want. The idea of not expecting payment for being honored is also an interesting argument. I can see both sides to this.

Ok, you might get me on that!
