  1. Forty years ago (whoa), Rick Wilson was one of the assistant coaches teaching skating as a PE credit. If he could teach me backward crossovers, he can teach anyone anything. Certainly as Chuck Fletcher was looking around for someone to fix the D at Philly, with Rick Wilson on board, that component of their team play will be fine. Now if they can fix their goaltending ...
  2. Chiming in with one comment on the weekend's powerplay, that noone has mentioned (that I saw). UMD's PK is #1 in the nation. That's despite playing arguably the toughest schedule in the country so far. I can think of several excellent plays where we were foiled by a great save or a nice defensive play. Credit to the opponent (this week), would be my viewpoint. Along with Schlossman's note about injuries.
  3. FYP.
  4. Excellent! That will also solve our powerplay woes.
  5. Agree. He shook it off and kept his head in the game.
  6. Kudos to the guys for a smart, hard-fought win. Tone for the game set early on with the coincidentials where we showed some real fire. And then got the first goal...
  7. Senden with a nice hustle play to draw another UMD penalty, then makes sure he tells the 'Dog what he thinks. Well done.
  8. We're doing an excellent job of getting under UMD's skin. Keep it cool boys!
  9. Excellent that they got the call right. Goodbye Wolff.
  10. On a different note, kudos to all the UND fans at the game tonight. Nice turnout in the house of the defending national champs.
  11. Yeah, I've been hedging my bets tonight. Hoping for at least one game to enjoy. Was happy to see Miami get a tie with SCSU. Not sure how I feel about that tying goal in the final minute by Gophers.
  12. Indeed. You can add both BC and BU to that list of teams we rank above.
  13. We've played them even so far in the 3rd. 5 minutes left. 5-0.
  14. I think we benefited over most of the last decade from the behind the scenes coaching of Karl Goehring. Goaltending has dipped since he left.
  15. "everybody get your shot glasses ready, we're getting a bunch of announcer penalties on UND here "
  16. OK, I heard calls for two more shots right at Samberg's tripping penalty.
  17. 5x5 we look pretty good. Let's keep it 5x5, boys.
  18. Yeah, I'd like to think winning trumps all, but I may be too competitive.
  19. For my $.02, this is the biggest reason for the quiet crowd. I really dislike that we're selling our home ice advantage - crowd noise - for a few bucks here and there. Would welcome as a compromise, there's no in-game adverts during the 3rd period and overtime.
  20. Leave it to SI to miss the 80 percent of the story. The Presidents of the other Big Ten schools: * Will be happy at a stronger link to all the research money these two bring in. * May already be applying pressure to stay clean and stop with the headlines. Losing is fine. Killing people (last I checked) would probably make a President unhappy.
  21. https://fightinghawks.com/news/2018/11/12/mens-hockey-west-regional-ticket-packages-on-sale-to-general-public-tuesday.aspx Going on sale to general public tomorrow at 9am.
  22. I only ever heard I wa bu che ... For parts of both seasons with UND (78-79 and 79-80), when the other goaltender was having a slump, he was really good. And he was flashy in making reaction saves which was crowd pleasing. In 1980, by the time tournament time rolled around, freshman Darren Jensen was the #1, and he played the title game in Providence. (Plus Jensen later played in the NHL ... and was a really sound goaltender.) Iwabuchi was backing up for those games.
  23. I'll see your Eddie and raise you an Iwabuchi (1978-1979).
  24. Yeah, they got a grungy goal that became the game winner. But they didn't give MSU much in the last 90 seconds when it was 6x5 with the empty net.
