  1. Versus 8pm central - Dallas vs Vancouver. Expect it to be done by 3am.
  2. For most of the years I've been a fan, the Sioux have played according to this philosophy: [excerpted from the above] "There's never a game that doesn't count," McMahon said. "We're coached that way. Every game counts. Every shift counts. ..." Under Hakstol, I think that ethic has gotten even stronger.
  3. Zach - Leading the NHL Playoffs in goal scoring. Not surprised here.
  4. This one might go 10 games, especially if the goalies get hot. Considering they've played two-plus games already, and Game 2 isn't until tonight, its one of those series that the winner may end up being too beat-up to go much further... a shame since both have the potential for a big run.
  5. That's more than a couple. Thanks for posting. I did some quick math and I figure we travelled about 5500 auto miles to see Sioux hockey games this year. It was worth every mile.
  6. Ah the good old days. That live chicken was absolutely critical to the outcome of that game vs. Minnesota. It helped us kill off an extended Minnesota powerplay, getting Taylor and Smail some rest. Not to mention the Gophers were all crackin up on their bench until getting slapped upside the head by their coaches. It was a BRILLIANT! strategy. Not to mention funny as heck. I've had Gopher fans ask me about it 10 and 15 years later. I have one bird story from the Farce days, 1979 vintage: My roommate smuggled a Canadian goose in his parka. Security patted down his front pockets but failed to pat his back. When the Sioux scored 3 minutes in, he said he was saving it for goal #10. Each of the first 9 goals, we urged him to toss it. And finally he hurled on the 10th Sioux goal of the night, whereupon its wings extended as it gently glided onto the ice, coming to rest a couple feet in front of the beleaguered CC goalie. Final score UND 10, CC 0.
  7. I feel better, knowing there's other lunatics staying up glued to the TV. Dallas does look good - including that one-timer by Barnes that almost ended it.
  8. Well that didn't take long ... game 1 - Dallas and Vancouver locked in a double ot battle 4-4. I'm gonna pay tomorrow for staying up late to watch this one on Versus.
  9. PCM, thanks for a great season of recaps this season. I don't say it often enough, but THANK YOU for the time and your summaries.
  10. We're going for a Guinness Book of World Records. Or if that fails, we'll settle for a Guinness.
  11. I hope the DTO line is still togehetr for teh game vs Mihcgican State.
  12. They sold out of Hobey Baker pucks soon after the announcement. Collector's item, probably worth millions someday. "If we had known Duncan was going to win, we'd have made a lot more", according to someone organizing the event ...
  13. Picking the NHL playoffs is easy. Just pick whichever team has the most Sioux. In case of a tie, pick the team with the fewest Gophers, and then the fewest Badgers.
  14. Howdy, partner. While I might like to agree with y'all, this here thread requires y'all check yer reesonableility at the door. We got our own little world here and don't need nobody tellin' us differnt.
  15. I didn't watch any replay, but I got REALLY scared when two BC guys tied up Toews out by the blue line, helping to create the 2x1 that Gerbe scored on. Toews never gets caught out of position, and it was clear that he was (legally) detained way out by the blue line and couldn't get back.
  16. The Hockey News with good blogs on the weekend: http://www.thehockeynews.com/en/news/news.asp?idNews=24249 excerpted: Hobey Baker Award Handed Out Despite the fact that North Dakota lost to BC the night before, the Sioux Nation turned out in droves for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award ceremony. The UND band trumpeted louder (Howard Jones
  17. OK, so its Friday night at the Frozen Four, and "Ry-an Dun-can" had just won the Hobey Baker Award, to the very loud cheers of the assembled gathering, and the Skills Competition is about to begin, and the coach of the West team is announced as Bill Selman. So I get to thinking, he was coach at UND in the late 60's, and left to ultimately coach St Louis University. But I bet he coached Bob Duncan about that time, and isn't that a cool connection. All this got me thinking about how little I know of that period of Sioux hockey history. I'd be interested in what people know of that period in Sioux hockey history. Stories, info ... hey its the off season.
  18. After having some time to digest the game, but not watch the tape: 1) Jerry York did a terrific job of using the last change to create mismatches. This is especially true in the 2nd period, when we had troubles getting the puck out of the zone, and they would be changing one guy at a time. It definitely wore us out, and when combined with the difficulties the Kozek-Kaip-Fabian line had with their speed, meant trouble. OTOH, until the penalty late in the second, I thought we were going to survive all that pressure and come out with the lead. 2) The 2nd BC goal was the key, I thought. It too was set up with a zone clear that we didn't get all the way down, and that enabled BC to get fresh guys out, but we only got one guy to change. 3) When Oshie made the great play to tie it, I thought we were set. Our legs looked good in the 3rd, and the 4th line had a couple nice shifts, keeping the puck 200' away from Lammy. 4) Shots were pretty misleading, as BC threw the puck at the net anytime they got inside the blue line. I thought true scoring chances were a lot more even. 5) I thought Jonny! looked a bit tired. I was sure that Duncan was setting up Schneider by going far side about 5 times in a row, but he never got a good look late from The Angle. Bottom line, a game that could have gone either way. Just like nearly all the BC-UND games the last 10 years...
  19. Congratulations Ryan! Another terrific turnout of Sioux fans, and the arena echoed with chants of "Ry-an Dun-can" during TV "timeouts", along with music from the the Fighting Sioux Pep Band (thanks for making the trek guys!) He is one humble guy. Considering the outstanding competition he faced, I'm surprised and thrilled. I loved the reactions from Bob Duncan and Dave Hakstol after the announcement. PS I got to tell Mr. Kubes "nice job with the Hobey award" later on ...
  20. That's just plain awful. I think of Maine as an adopted brother, because they deal with a lot of the same issues UND does -small population, geographically out of the way, etc. And their fans are always terrific, even after a tough loss to State. Condolences to Whitehead and the Maine hockey family.
  21. Refreshing and nice comments from Coach York. I agree with Porter - I never felt like it was over, even down 2 with 40 seconds left. BC deserved the win, but our guys - as always - kept battling to the final buzzer. Just one of the many reasons to be proud of this Sioux team.
  22. Just got back from the game and need to say how impressed I was at the multiple thousands of Sioux fans that made the trip. Well done.
  23. Holy Cross is unbeaten all time in NCAA play. Except against the UND Fighting Sioux.
  24. At age 2, Taylor Chorney bit off his dad's finger trying to get The Ring. His dad sent him to Aragorn at Shattuck to grow up.
