It was $$ - Vancouver didn't want to pay the $$ to widen their rinks. I'm sure at the 2014 Olympics in Russia they will go back to 200 x 100.
-
But it does give a barametor on the talent/achievement level of the forwards that have come since the 05 class.
-
Fact - the only Sioux players to make an all WCHA team (1st, 2nd or 3rd) since the 05-06 class (Lee, Chorney, Duncan, Oshie Toews, etc.) are Genoway and Eidesness, no forwards. Fact - no Sioux have made the WCHA all-rookie team since Lee and Oshie did in 05-06. Kristo will probably be on the all-rookie team this year. I don't see us placing anyone on the all WCHA team this year. What's happened is that the skill players brought in since 05 haven't panned out, at least not to the extent we have been used to at the beginning of the decade (Parisie, Stafford, Zajac, etc.). This is why Brock Nelson may be here sooner than the CW believes.

Prediction - Sioux sweep (even if we tie one night, it's still a sweep, according to Mlps Strib ) - Fienhage fights !!

Derek is probably the best of the lot - which I know doesn't say a lot. I trust him more than anyone else. After the phantom CFB on Hextall, Anderson is way down on the list.
-
He also bailed us out vs CC last year on Sat afternoon - he made several huge saves in the final period/overtime to earn a tie. He has his faults (down too much, strays outside the pipes too often) but he has been pretty solid. He will be tough to beat as an upperclassmen the next couple years.

Who will the Sioux play in the East next season?

Denver is also a better team than UMinn/Wisco, at least over the past 5+ years. -
now would be a good time to get it together

Top 3 would be "par" if you had the best player in the country in the lineup. It would be a quite feat for Hak and the boys to finish strong and wind up with a 1/2 NCAA seed, with all the adversity they have faced this year. Pretty good coaching if you ask me. -
If true, its about time they travel outside the Big 10 for a non-conf game. In the long run, it is good for the players to be tested in tough/new environments.

Who did we miss out on that's in the same class? Hjelle? I feel sorry for Gothberg when he gets here - one bad goal/game...
-
If we would have held on to win v Minn Friday we would be 7 in PWR right now. With so many teams bunched together, 1 game/goal could be huge.
-
We have given up the 2nd least goals in the conf. - the only team with fewer GA is Wisco, which has played 2 less conf games. Our overall team GA is 2.25 (54 GA in 24 games) http://www.uscho.com/standings/index.php?s...wc&gender=m Not bad for a team with a shaky goalie and a bunch of young D and the best player in the country sitting in the press box It's remarkable that Sat. was the first game they lost by more than 1 goal - pretty good coaching if you ask me. One game does not a season make - everyone should read this and take a chill pill. http://www.areavoices.com/undhockey/?blog=68950

Add Brock Nelson to the list (probably coming in 2011) and we will have 2 of the top 3 players from Minn that will be drafted this year.
-
Paul Braun at Wisconsin is about as good as it gets when it comes to play by play and not being too much of a homer. He's been at it a long time, right up there with our own Tim H.
-
Frank is a big homer - say what you want about Sweeney, he won't go overboard whining about officials/the opposition like Frank does.
-
Aside from HDTV, the best thing about tonights game being on Big10 Network is we won't have Frank M to listen to!!!
-
Obviously we need to play well to move up in the standings. That said, in reviewing the first half of the season, I'm not scared of anyone ahead of us in the standings. That's one advantage of playing teams ahead of you in the standings - if we win, we move up. I wouldn't be surprised if we post a 36+ when it is all said and done.
-
How do we know that? I didn't see this "alternate" list published anywhere. AZ is correct - no designated "taxi squad" this year.
-
Let's sweep them, then root for them to rally to get into the top 25 of RPI - that would be huge for our TUC % in the Pairwise rankings.

CHN article about Cory Fienhage "Fienhage Works, Waits for Chance" http://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2010...07_fienhage.php

Actually, it would be good for the Sioux's PWR rank if the Gophers could crack the top 25 in RPI and be a team under consideration (TUC).
