I think the fact that JMU played some very weak opponents this year (admittedly not their fault, but still a reality) means they have yet to be smacked in the mouth. If we can jump on them early, that could be a key.

Actually if you are retaining players already at the school you can exceed the scholarship limit. Kind of like the Larry Bird rule to NBA salary cap.

If nobody leaves, how many freshman do you bring in. Or do you cut underclassmen who haven't produced. Remember that to keep a player for the extra year doesn't count against scholarship limits, (not sure if that will continue to apply until all classes have aged out). That means you will have a lot of depth and can more easily get guys a night off and weather injuries. Coaches have several years to figure it out, I'm sure the good ones will.

NDSU has beaten both UND and Missouri State head to head, so assume that's why they would get it.

Massey uses previous seasons in his rating, which I'm not crazy about. Cornell just missed top 20 despite not playing. But eye test would say rankings are pretty reasonable. Also interesting that he gave Arizona St. to the NCHC.

I do think we should alternate between them and Bemidji on the non-conference schedule. Haven't understood the need to have BSU on every year.

I haven't. But I've been to Oxford and it's a great trip. Regardless, I think Mankato is happy where they're at, and has CC and MIami as cautionary tales. And even if Miami left, I'd much rather take ASU to add national profile.

Mankato has a good thing going in the (W)CCHA. Why change what's working?

St. Cloud for me. Iron shapens Iron, and a title gives the program an extra legitimacy much like Duluth got 10 years ago. Just makes the crucible that is the NCHC that much better.

Correct. UND is the last independent to take the title. Also joined by Michigan, Michigan St., Denver, UMD, BU and RPI as only schools to win titles representing different leagues.
