  1. Show me in the job description where "kill the nickname" was listed as a responsibility of the future president of UND. As I said, patently false.
  2. (Check the date on this article: nearly 3 years ago! The writer refers to Pelnik as 6-feet tall then...) The Defensemen By Paul Strand 2/19/08 Charlie Pelnik Charlie is one of our 6-foot defensemen. He has some big reach and can dangle with the puck. Playing for the AAA Jr. Hurricanes Charlie has learned well under coach Steve Sabo. He stays at home when it is needed and picks his spots to rush the puck. When he does rush the puck, look out. He was the winner of the shoot out competition after our first practice and showed those offensive moves. He also prefers the wrist shot from the point. Unlike most defensemen who love to get the big aircraft carrier slap shot off, Charlie takes a nice smooth wrist shot almost every time and sails it at the net. Not overpowering, but safe and usually ends in a good scoring play. The original blog
  3. This is patently false.
  4. ^His arm was in a sling later.
  5. I was just going to post the same word... There were times during Saturday's game were the Sioux couldn't seem to find their a$$ with both hands, but overall they played a very good game.
  6. ^That's great to read about Grimaldi, but I am tiring of reading about all these offensive prodigies who come to UND and turn out to be 10-goal-a-year scorers. I long for a 30-goal year from someone.

^Yeah, you're right, Goon. Once this team figures out what it is, I think they will go on a big run. It seems they have a little attention deficit going on again last night they absolutely dominated the opponent for 10 minutes (even switching out lines and both defensemen while they cycle the puck down deep) and then they'll seem to lose focus and not be able to get the puck out of their own end. We're sixteen games into the season, and there aren't a whole lot of rough edges left to polish.
  8. This weekend is a 4-point must.
  9. Thanks for your address.
  10. Wut?
  11. Y'all shure do have a purty mouth...
  12. The players I know don't care.
  13. Wut?
  14. Any team with a line like Connolly-Connolly-Fontaine is capable of going a long way in a one-and-done post-season playoff. Add in Brown-Oleksuk-Schmidt and that is a scary team. Check out these stats: Player GP G A PTS Mike Connolly 10 7 9 16 Justin Fontaine 10 6 8 14 Jack Connolly 10 3 10 13 Travis Oleksuk 10 6 6 12 J.T. Brown 10 5 7 12 Kyle Schmidt 10 4 5 9 FYI the Sioux have two guys in double figures.
  15. Oh yeah. And our d-corps played really well that night without him.
  16. When was he a healthy scratch? I must've missed that.
  17. That game wasn't as close as the scoreboard would lead one to believe. There were several segments during which the Sioux were doing absolutely anything they wanted to do with the puck. With a bounce or two in the crease the game might've been 7 or 8 - 2. Simpson and Gleason did nothing wrong, really. Their first shift out they both were a little tentative, but after that they played a great game. Hakstol was juggling lines all night: I think every line but Knight's was changed out at some point. Trupp was everywhere, and finally got a goal in The Ralph (he claims he didn't get one all of last year!) To limit the Dogs to just 16 shots is quite an accomplishment; they've averaged almost 32 per game up 'til tonight. To play a game like that with MacWilliam, Forbert and Malone out of the lineup says a lot about the depth and discipline on the Sioux. Finish the sweep Saturday and that's a big statement weekend.
  18. I just got off the phone with the Alumni Association; looking for $3.5 million for athletic scholarships. "Thanks," they said, "for your continuing support of UND athletics. Can we count on you today for another $500?" I couldn't help them today.

The first step in solving a problem is admitting you have one.
  20. UND should add skiing.

  22. Once again I find myself in agreement with yzerman 19. I'll add two thoughts as additions, not corrections nor disagreements: 1. We are leaving way too many opponents wide open and all alone in the slot. I don't know if the d-men are simply losing track, or if our forwards need to step up their play. But it's been a problem that leads directly to easy goals and needs to be fixed a.s.a.p. The Sioux did a good job of clearing the slot in the second period last night, but the third was more of the same; and 2. When I look at the extreme talent this team has at both forward and on defense, I can't help but wonder why we've not been able to land a world-class goaltender. I've not felt completely comfortable about any Sioux goalie since the new Ralph opened. The fact that Eddie was honored before Friday's game just pushed the issue to the frontal lobe again.
  23. What are you trying to tell us?
  24. ^The Sioux have played a rough and tumble style of hockey for years, and their reputation precedes them into games. Refs know UND is going to hit hard, and they
  25. All these new commits are making the Danny Mattson thing seem more and more iffy. He's almost 20 years old.
