2024-25 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
tnt replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
Hoping tonight’s comeback can be a tipping point in the positive direction. Need to finish off the sweep and finish out well before Christmas, then get healthy and play with swagger the second half. -
If you are a Miami fan, how many times can you watch this happen before you just can’t watch anymore?

Even under Hakstol they didn't always get it done, but the whole idea is showing up with a purpose and a focused mentality. Agree, that under Berry it is almost like "oh boy, we get to wear the black jerseys tonight", and many times the focused approach you saw consistently before is an afterthought. -

You don't hear Schlossman giving the record with the business suits on much anymore, do you? I would love to know the record in business suits under Hakstol and under Berry. My bet is that there would be a big disparity. -

I guess my problem is more the sense of desperation and urgency doesn't appear to be there, except when they are behind. You would think with the injuries that at least the veterans would come out with that sense of urgency. We just seem to have a lot of guys that are soft and not fighting through the adversity. Hoping that urgency shows up this weekend, because this really could be a tipping point one way or another. -
So, just to get it on record, who do you think the guy should be?
-
That sounds far more likely.

If you were a Bemidji fan, would you consider it exciting if you lost your coach?
-
Gotta be tough when many could be lame duck coaches.

I guess these are the players they have recruited, and outside of going into the game themselves, I don't know what else you can do as coach. Like I said before, obviously NHL teams have been poor in their assessments if these guys don't have basic skills. I suspect it is more of a need to bear down, and if these guys don't have the self motivation and competitive nature to take this upon themselves, maybe their scholarships need to be looked at. Maybe this is our chance as fans to single out the guys that have made NIL money that are under performing and give them the reality of what it is like to play for money and the expectation that goes with it. -
Can't remember, was there a push from the players for Joel Schwenzfeier as defensive coordinator? Seems to me there was a push recently from players for an internal hire at some position.

Let's face it, most of those years they were coming off league titles and they were fat and happy, so instead of tuna on toast, chicken salad on rye untoasted. -
Isn’t that what we did with women’s basketball?

How old is Baldwin? Is the next destination the grave? Not super excited that Chaves will be making this hire.

The last Frozen Faceoff at the “X” would be a good one to get us in the tournament if the pairwise hill is too high to climb. -
Is he a USD alum? Just curious why he would want to wait for that position, as UND has a lot to offer with the facilities coming on board, and Grand Forks vs. Vermillion.
-
Hopefully they can still turn around this season, but if they don’t, after the championship year they will have made the tourney 5 times with a single win against AIC, and missed the tourney 4 times. (Giving credit for a tourney in Covid year). A little better than 50% wouldn’t be horrible if you took advantage a few times. Not making that run has opened up the recruiting of top players to numerous more teams.
-
Well apparently now he can nap all he wants in his new position. If we created another position like the federal government does, I suppose we know who they expect will pay for that.
-
All I know is that Minnesota held on to Don Lucia to the point where they couldn’t beat another team in Minnesota, and now they look on pace to being in contention for a title for the 5th straight year.
-
How about Garrett Raboin. Better record than us in year 2, and his teams actually have a work ethic culture.
-
A lot of firsts with Brad Berry, and very few are good.
-
Apparently Berry should have given Blake his whole salary as NIL money so we can score some goals. Like I said, why would Blake or anyone hang around when we aren’t even sniffing a win in the NCAA tourney, much less a title. I hope he proves me wrong, and they get their act together.
-
To be truthful, I really did expect them to lose, which is something I don’t think I’ve ever expected before against Bemidji. Doesn’t make it any less frustrating, but coming into the year knowing that the Regional was in Fargo, and Berry’s history in being spectators at those, I worried we might experience some frustration. Still not too late, but getting late fast, and winning the automatic bid is looking more like the path they may need to take, unless they get really hot like Hakstol’s teams did the second half. Not being consistent from period to period much less being consistent for a long stretch of games doesn’t inspire that confidence, but who knows.
-
I would say that over half the team’s in the country have a better work ethic than UND’s culture under Berry. How many times do they wait until they are behind the 8-ball before they start playing? The fact that you are constantly being beat, or taken to the brink by teams that don’t have half your talent or recruiting advantage, proves that the work ethic is lacking. Of course after the season is over, we can raid the best players from these less talented teams, then watch those players lose their touch or work ethic that got them to live the pampered life. The worst part is that thanks to Berry we will get to watch these less talented teams take it to us for the foreseeable future because Berry wants to be the nice guy to these programs, nevermind the fact that it is often brutal hockey to watch.

I think that is where not making the Frozen Four sometimes comes into play. If you are so close you can taste it, sometimes guys come back, or talk to each other about whether staying might put you over the top. Not getting even solitary wins in the NCAA tournament, or missing altogether, doesn’t foster that confidence that you are close to an NCAA title. They need to get it back to where UND is in the mix of teams that can win it all year in and year out, which will help in recruiting as well.
