  1. So just think of how much money Lucia's hatred of UND has cost Minnesota by not playing us every year up until now.
  2. If we wanted to take the provincialism to an extreme we could say we always seem to have more players from the city of our University than Minnesota does. Bottom line is any coach will go find players anywhere that allows him to put the best product on the ice, and that goes for every sport. As long as you're not cheating, I don't know what the problem is with that.
  3. Oh, I'm with you. It was obnoxious listening to them spout that mantra every year I watched games at the old Williams Arena. The funny thing is they weren't provincial in other sports, so it was so hypocritical.
  4. Only they will tell you that UND probably has never won a NC without "x" many Minnesotans.
  5. I agree. I'm not a huge fan of the new logo, but when side by side against those, it certainly looks o.k.
  6. Don't think you will see near the differential between goals and goals against next year. That said, if they can get the same kind of clutch play that they got from Caggiula, Boeser, Schmaltz, Stecher , LaDue and Cam Johnson when the game is on the line, then the "W" is all that matters anyway. Jost sounds like the competitive guy that will thrive with the game on the line. http://www.collegehockeynews.com/stats/
  7. I just don't think it is easy to replace 4 or five huge difference makers that easy. You don't find the kind of competitiveness that Stecher has very often.
  8. Denver. They kept 2/3 of their top line up to now, and their best defenseman. They also have some nice talent coming in.
  9. Agree, we should be in the mix at the end, but it wouldn't surprise me if we lost twice as many games next year, which will still leave us in the mix. Don't think there will be a lot of teams next year that have the kind of records like Quinnipiac and we had last year.
  10. I'm guessing we will be picked 2nd or 3rd in our league, and without as much offense from our defense will need to score more on the power play to make up for that. If guys don't make the next step, then we may have problems, although that can be said of most. You don't lose 5 players to the pro ranks and an all time great like Caggiula and not feel the pain.
  11. Berry said they didn't want to bring in anybody just to fill a spot, and didn't know if there would be any more additions for this year.
  12. I have to say that it looks much better with the black outline on the logo.
  13. You mean like the faculty at UND did with the old nickname?
  14. $50,000 for a mock up that was bettered by many on this board says they don't regret it. If they took a job where their hands were tied, then that's on them.
  15. Exactly, are we as alumni and fans supposed to spout the company line as well because it will hurt the university? And let's talk about leadership! The leadership that has brought us to the point that so many people do not like the name or logo. Who actually hurt the university.
  16. Where was the University leadership when faculty were railing against the old nickname? They effectively cost the university millions of dollars.
  17. My takeaway from this whole process is the disconnect from most fans and the administrative people. When time and again you come away with the thought "what in the world are they seeing or thinking" it just makes you wonder if these people are so removed from the average fan that they have a hard time representing them at the table. It reminds me of our representatives in Washington D.C., albeit to a lesser degree.
  18. ... or when they realize that this sells far less than a good one would, it would ultimately help the University a lot more. I think most people that truly care about the University held out hope that this whole process would have had the edge taken off by a decent logo, but when you get this out of the deal, you really have hurt the University. I don't just buy merchandise to buy it, I want something that catches my eye, as do most people. I'm sure I might buy a few things, but surely not as much as a I would have with a very nice logo. Maybe you and others that like it may make up for that difference, time will tell.
  19. Are we attributing all of this to SME, or were they given criteria by UND that made being creative impossible. I for one would like to see some of the other designs they came up with. I can understand with how poorly the other process went why they didn't pick 3 designs to choose from and let the public vote. If given the criteria that generic is the only option, what could come out of that.
  20. So if nobody buys the merchandise, can we start the logo process over?
  21. When there are avatars out there that are better, it is frustrating that this is what they come up with. If you wanted the nickname to take hold, this was the blandest way to try accomplish that. Not horrible, but is that what we set out to do. Apparently, that is what we set out to do for this whole screwed up process, find the least offensive logo and name. None of their criteria was met with either the name or logo, but then again, that is what we were told from the get go that we would get.
  22. What about the WHL or OHL?
  23. Couldn't he play in Major Juniors?
  24. ... and I don't like agreeing with Johnboy, but I will in this case. Sportswise, Minnesota isn't exactly a pillar in the Big Ten. When you can point that UND is better than Minnesota in hockey, NDSU is better than Minnesota in football, and both UND and NDSU are better than Minnesota in basketball this year, then it hardly holds up an air of superiority. If that was a one year circumstance it's one thing, but that has been the case frequently lately. Tim Hennessy and Scott Swygman who are both from Minneapolis can't believe that Minnesota can be so consistently bad when they are in the market they are in, and I agree. You would think you would hit a great recruiting class that develops here or there and have a magic season, but it doesn't seem to happen. Hockey is the only sport that really is consistently good, and that has taken a short term hit the past few years.
  25. Well they sure weren't won as part of the vaunted Big Ten conference.
