Yeah, I’m guessing if he were interested in any opening, he knows he could call them and automatically be the front runner depending on salary demands. Don’t call me, I’ll call you scenario.

I think UND needs a reset to the days under Blais when they had to work hard to compete. With how many good players there are now, you need even your most talented guys to work hard. I look at Western and see the Blais teams before they were able to get the high draft picks, and they just play hard and together as a team. I think Raboin could help us with that reset, and with a few more ties to USA hockey.
-
Good point, that is why Jackson is the interim, so he can keep contact with current recruits and players and identify transfer portal guys who could possibly be a fit if they don’t rush into picking a team.
-
Team seems to play hard and fast. Doesn’t have a ton of talent but swept CC at Robson and Omaha at Baxter. Of course getting players that have had to work their tails off to get to this level to begin with, and getting talented guys that could get by with a bit less effort to do the same might be a little more difficult, but he seems well respected by players and that will go a long ways in on ice performance.

Let’s just say the penalty kill cost us a tournament appearance.
-
Who knows, if they had done that, Berry might still have a job, because they would have been at home several times, instead of the one game and done at St. Paul.
-
Barr or Raboin seem to be the young guns with a lot of potential. Can they apply and not have it open records? I’m sure neither would want to create any ill will where they are at if they weren’t guaranteed the job or that it would be confidential.
-
Wasn’t that the case with Motzko?
-
"Bump" them from the tournament with one of their own. How glorious that would be.
-
The thing is, Berry’s teams have demonstrated you can’t have slow starts with how the Big Ten and other teams have stepped it up. Hakstol can’t wait too long to get his team building for the second half run. Part of me just wants to go up and comer young guy. Don’t want to be rehashing the same old arguments time and again.
-
So Bump wasn't offered anything, or nobody wanted him this past offseason?
-
Yes, and sadly it will be turning off more and more fans, especially those that a part of the "have not" group.
-
Hakstol

Hey, Berry was an NHL assistant, and Blais was an Associate for Columbus and coached the Fargo Force for a stint after that.
-
Hopefully he doesn't process it like he did when they got rid of the women's hockey program, as he seemed to rant on that for years to come, although his coverage of women's hockey before that didn't get near the play it did after.
-
It is generally pretty hard to get players to flip if the program is running smoothly. The fact that programs noticed big cracks in the program where they could get someone to jump ship is just another indictment on the regime. Thanks for making the argument for regime change Brad. I will add, why wasn't Alex Bump on everyones hit list, as that guy has it all. Could it be that Western has created a culture that attract players?
-
True, but why even throw in a line that basically says there is no guarantee they will win more. Really, I thought the Buffalo Sabres were guaranteed that for years. In the same token, there was no guarantee that UND would ever make the NCAA tournament again under Berry. It goes both ways, that is why it is a hard decision to make, but if Schlossman couldn't see that fans were starting to tune out, then he is letting the same type of loyalty that Berry has for certain players blind him.
-
I wonder if any of Boisvert, Perron, Livanavage or James leave, if Schlossman will put it on the coaching change rather than it might not have happened period if the team wasn't so dysfunctional.
-
Like Schlossman didn't hear the "next man up" culture that Berry preached.
-
Hey, I used some of the same arguments Schlossman was making defending Berry for years, but one has to ask Schlossman the question, how long could that chart that Oxbow referenced go on before it became a problem and not just "unlucky" in his eyes? When you see the fanbase slipping into apathy and not watching games, that seems the time to, like Barney Fife would say, "Nip it in the Bud"!
-
Notice Schlossman didn't mention all of the firsts under Berry that show the program slipping in stature, much like under Lucia where his record against his fellow Minnesota teams was brutal, especially with their recruiting advantages.
-
Actually, UND hasn't hoisted since Berry's first year, which is the problem.
-
Someone should ask Schlossman how much longer Minnesota should have gone on with Lucia, as he had a winning record. To be fair to Schlossman I am sure it is a whole lot easier to do interviews after losses with Berry than it was under Hakstol, because one was an intense competitor and probably a little ornery, and one just had the aww shucks we lost attitude.
-
Last year, not the time before in Sioux Falls.
-
Chaves looked at the numbers when Schlossman used to keep track of the record in the business suits under Hakstol, then had to go back and figure manually when Schlossman quit keeping track of it under Berry and decided 90% was a whole lot better than 50%, so actually it is Schlossman's fault. Nevermind the revenues lost in home ice playoffs, regionals, and fan apathy. He should be excited for a new coach, because it might create more excitement like it did for the football program and fan excitement is better for the Grand Forks Herald. I know I had been getting sick of reading one dimensional reporting.
