  1. Black Hills State better be in for a hell of a beating. I'm usually all for sportsmanship, but I really hope that the team goes out and puts this game away early but doesn't back off. We are in the middle of trying to build a program for the BSC next year. We need to get everyone, especially the younger guys, as many reps as possible and have them play as if it is a playoff game.

Absolutely anything besides whether I should cheer for the Gophers or the Bison this weekend.

    Well said.....

I'm hoping everyone, from coaches all the way down to the last player on the roster learned their lesson a few years ago with Sioux Falls. Don't overlook anyone. The guys need a nice blowout to continue to build the confidence that Wyo was talking about and continue to pull it together come conference time. This better be a good game to get some reps, work on some timing etc., etc. But I did think the same thing about Drake. This team has improved dramatically since thta time.

    Go Sioux!!!

  2. Don't forget to head out to the world's largest French Fry Feed going on right now!!!

    Mmmmmm, I love Simplot fries.

P.S. The UND football team actually has a home game this weekend. Apparently nobody has noticed that yet.

I think people know and attendance is going to be good but what do you want to talk about? We play Black Hills. We better win by 30-40 points. I don't know what to talk about with this game and I think others are in the same boat.

  3. UND just posted another all-time record enrollment at 14,697, up about 3.5 percent or 503 students from the same time last year, which also was a record. :) The University also is reporting that there is a record number of students living in residence halls on campus, indicating that "on campus" enrollment is strong, and that the numbers aren't just smoke and mirrors with online students. (though, I would imagine that online education still is a strong initiative at UND... and there is nothing wrong with that!).

    Cue Kolpack.

  4. o wise one, tell us which college sport is nationally more popular than football and basketball.

Football is so nationally well known at your school that people everywhere are getting you confused with someone else. Boy, you guys have sure made a name for yourself. Football may be popular all across the country, but apparently no one knows who ndsu is. So your basically talking smack about a sport that your pretty irrelevant at.:lol:

  5. Funny thing is that all this "confusion" talk started with a tweet by Terry Vandrovec of the Argus Leader, who seemed miffed that SDSU was the lowest ranked of the four Dakota teams. Given their performance last Saturday night, perhaps that dubious distinction is deserved. And now, their starting quarterback has quit the team. It's looking like a potentially disastrous season in Brookings...

Kolpack proved how classy he is with his twitter response. I think his blog post was comical and I could sense the tears streaming down his cheeks while I was reading it. Than he gets someone to post on their public page what they their opinion on the blog and his response was straight class-

I expect it from fb fans, but now I'm getting !@#$ from an SID on a public domain.

So, he can share his views on his public domain, but when someone shares theirs, he cries even more. Jeff along with all bison fans had a pretty emotional day today and handled it with class ;) . For a team they don't care about anymore they are sure up in arms about this. Look how many came out of the woodwork to post here.

  6. I recognize that by playing a competitive game vs Fresno is a good accomplishment but never in modern history has a team dropped 6 spots by virtue of a bye. I think the fact that the 4 Dakota schools were all in the Great West is the root of the confusion.

This is hilarious. You guys probably would have been ranked preseason #1 if all these voters would not have confused the two schools. Last year, you probably would have had home field advantage in the playoffs if not for all the confused voters. Just think of the confusion next week when these voters get confused by us beating a school from South Dakota and you guys possibly beating the gophers. How do any of these voters walk and chew gum at the same time?

The funny part is can you imagine how many e-mails lakes and his cronies have sent these voters? If their fans are sending as classy of e-mails as I heard at work today or any of the postings on this board they are representing themselves great right now. I love the crying though and the idea that everyone believes the to schools were confused for one week and one week only. This is free comedy.

  7. I sure hope the guys on the team don't read this board. They play their hearts out and damn near beat a very good FCS football team and most of you guys come on here and berate their getting some recognition for their gutsy performance as some kind of name mixup.

They made us all proud Saturday night and deserve recognition and support for their effort.

No one here didn't recognize Saturday night as a great effort. Hopefully the guys on the team understand that they better prove to us that the effort they played with on Saturday night can be brought to every game from here on out. Just cause I'm a fan, doesn't mean I have to have a short memory. I want to know what Sioux team is going to show up the rest of the year, the one from Fresno or the one from Idaho. If any of the boys are reading this, they can use that as motivation if they really truely need it.

  8. Apparently AGS knows there are 4 teams in the Dakotas. NDSU didn't drop 6 spots during a bye, UND is ranked #40, and Poly is almost ranked, ans USD is #17. Mix up was only on the coaches poll.

So is ndsu not as relevant in the FCS world as your fans like to tell everyone? How could such a well known team be mistaken for someone else? I guess I never see Deleware being confused with Deleware St. or Montana and Montana St. being confused.

The only reason you think the AGS polls are relevant is cause it has the rankings you want. AGS is a bunch of fans ranking teams, I'm sure there is no bias in that. A team that has fans who have better things to do than be members of 5 different message boards are very well represented I'm sure. I'm not sure UND deserves the #21 ranking but I think its comical the spin ndsu fans immediately put on it. For a team they have moved on from and don't care about anymore a ranking next to their name sure fires them up. Don't worry gabe, I'm sure if you google more polls you'll probably find others that make you feel all warm and fuzzy again.:lol:

    This is great stuff.

  9. I LIKE HOW THE AC'S FIVE YEAR HEAD START IN D1 IS SLOWLY OR QUICKLY? GOING AWAY: VBALL (CHECK), BASEBALL (CHECK), FOOTBALL (HOPE GENE "I WAS ALWAYS PICKED LAST" TAYLOR IS FOUND PASSED OUT IN FRONT OF THE ABC STORE SO HE LEAVES AND THIS SERIES CAN FINALLY BE RESUMED),MENS BASKETBALL (SIOUX WILL KILL THEM THIS YEAR) , SOCCER (WILL FIND OUT THIS WEEK), AND HOCKEY (OOPS WON'T GO THERE)!!!!!!!

Not sure about that. We seriously are in need of a big that can stay healthy.

  10. There obviously had to be some sort of mix up between us and NDSU for a couple people. They dropped from 6 to 12 being idle. So, I chalk this one up to a mistake (although had they won on Saturday UND would probably have cracked someone's top 25).

That could never happen. ndsu has made such a huge name for themselves in the FCS world with all their signiture wins and all. Just ask anyone of their fans, they'll tell you.

I guess, I could understand the ranking if we would have played Idaho as tough the week before as we played Fresno. Either way, if it is a result of our game this week getting some attention, congrats to the guys. Still way to early in my mind for polls to have a lot of meaning though.

  11. The Big Sky conference is one of the top two FCS conferences in the country. Year in and out they have had one of two teams playing for the Nat'l Championship. As an alum and former player I expect UND to compete right away in the conference but being realistic I think you have to allow the program a year or to in the conference to build. UND has proven at times it can play with teams like Montana but consistency not only from game to game but also quarter to quarter are needed. I could have told anyone without being at the game UND is not at the level of the defending Nat'l Champion or one of the premier FCS programs in Montana. But I wouldn't write anyone off as we aren't even in the conference yet.

  12. I wonder if we could ever land someone like Jim Tressel? He would be expensive, but I'm sure he could build us a legacy. Just a thought.

I'll take that one........Nope! Unless we get him 20 years before he is the Jim Tressel.

  13. Amongst the many reasons are such items as:

Getting our A's kicked by an NAIA school and not giving us anything to get the taste out of our mouths

Going from the best of the 4 Dakota schools to the worst

Making absolutely no coaching adjustments at any time and getting out-coached almost every game

    Not playing to win

Consistently playing so loose in the secondary that a very average at best QB can complete 15 in a row on us. We'd rather give up 10 yards anytime our opponents want rather than taking a chance and maybe getting beat long

Crappy offensive play calling game in and game out

Ruining any home atmosphere we had

The constant recruiting whine - before the move it was "we can't compete with NDSU because they are division I" now its "we can't compete because we're in transition"Giving us undisciplined play game in and game out

Not appearing to make any improvements to the program - every year it's the same old crap

Last - having the ugliest Sioux uniforms I can ever remember

Never heard that one before. In fact I'd argue that our last few classes have been as good as we've had and after having some time to relax after the game yesterday, we had some young players make some plays. It just wasn't consistent enough. Cummings and #69 (backup NG) on the d-line played ok yesterday. Some young LB's made plays. The problem was its just not consistent enough. Last year we got a few kids they were after as well and its been a little while since we won those head to head match ups. Just ask any of their fans, they'll tell you :D . Either way complain about the coaching on the field all you want, I think recruiting has improved the last few years.

  14. I agree with fire Mussman......Anyone think that Dale Lennon would be willing to come back after this season when the team is playoff eligible?

What ticked me off the most was the Idaho coaches making a mockery of our defensive coaches.....They'd call time out, draw something up, and a guy would be running wide open to the corner of the end zone. That was unacceptable.....they can't score TD's on basically the same play three times....

I doubt Lennon would come back unless we'd really, really open up the check book. There are a lot of young coaches out there who would be willing to come to a school in a rock solid conference, that is funded well for this level and has some young talent. It would have been interesting to see who would have applied 4 years ago had they opened up the position when Lennon left.

I feel bad typing sounding so negative on the coaching staff but I am just frustrated about today. The difference between the play from the first to second half was embarrassing and a lot of it had to do with coaching. I'm tired of seeing #7 get beat for 3 TD's in a row and than pump his chest after breaking up a pass or making a tackle. I"m tired of seeing dropped passes on offense. I'm tired of seeing us lose contain of defense over and over and their qb rolls out and completes a pass anywhere from 5-40 yards. I said last week that was going to kill us but no correction was made. We have talent but coaching and discipline kill us. The frustrating part is its the things the players and staff can control and that is whats hard to stomach.

  15. This obviously does favor UND, very few FCS teams have hockey as a sport. I feel like if you are going to compare attendence it should include mainstream (no niche sports), Football, Basketball, Volleyball. Those are 3 sports that I would assume nearly all FCS programs have, and would make for the most fair comparison.

I thought no one cares about hockey??

  16. A certain bison poster that used to lecture this board frequently share his "thoughts":

NDSU fan lambasting UND volleyball fan behavior

Strange how that poster doesn't even understand the humor in men's swimming team appearance. The women volleyball teams get a lot of fun poked at them on campus about their tight form fitting uniforms. One of the points that the men's swimming team wanted to make in a fun way is that their "uniform" is even more revealing at their events.

BTW, the Sioux women are babes!

Man, I don't know if there are enough tissues in Fargo to mop up all the tears at that college. For a game their players didn't care about their fans are really taking the loss pretty hard. How many excuses can they come up with? I mean maybe, just maybe our team is better and you got beat.

P.S.- Like I said earlier, I hope none of their fans feelings got hurt too bad.:lol: I love the fact that our students came out to support our team and had fun while doing it. As far as I'm concerned, keep it up.

  17. This match was UND's "match of the year". Even Hardee said after the match that they have been waiting a year for this match. It meant MUCH more to UND than it did to NDSU. It was horrible scheduling on NDSU's part to play this match right before a weekend series at home against a top 20 team. UND has nothing to play for except the NDSU game and the reaction of the Sioux players abnd coaches afterward showed it. It looked like they had just won the Super Bowl. They have no NCAA tournament to play for. If you asked UND players and Coach Hardee what their biggest match of the season would be this year, they would have said to a man NDSU. The same could not be said about the importance of the match to NDSU. NDSU would tell you the Summit League and the conference tournament is by far more important than the UND match.

Thanks for the laugh this morning. I needed that.:lol:

  18. That game was great because the teams were on par with each other. A football game would stink more that the basketball game because it would be a blowout. UND and NDSU are in different conferences and in a sport such as football, don't have enough dates to be playing each other on a regular schedule. Minor sports and Basketball it will probably work out, but not at all in football. There may be an occasional game sometime in the future, but with the schools in different conferences, it will never be an annual event.

I respect your opinion Wyo but its funny how a 40 point victory over a team in a "need based" scholorship only league who won two games last year makes a fanbase puff its chest. While I'm not sure UND has the depth to compete with NDSU in football I find it comical how a blowout is always assumed by you bison fans. I guess its pretty easy to type it when you and I know the teams aren't going to play for a while. Gene still has some excuses up his sleeve.

As far as the game last night the excuses on the bison board are pretty comical. Apparently the bison were overlooking the Sioux, could care less about the game, beat themselves, are still the superior team and UND's fanbase was what all bison fans expected. I truely hope no one's feelings got hurt to bad.

  19. So in your mind SDSU didn't win? It's still a win and SDSU proved they are better.

Obviously yes Dan, they won. A one point win at home when SUU went for two to win it isn't enough to prove to me that SDSU is any better and depending on where someone had the teams ranked before the game isn't anything that would cause a dramatic shift in my ballot. In my opinion a 1 point victory at home isn't anything that would make me believe a team is any better and the rest of the season will tell more of a story.

  20. Yeah, I guess 8 National Championships compared to your 1 is not a big deal.

Good thing my Grandpa is still around to tell me about ndsu's glory days when they won NC. He tells me about them when he is telling me about the first TV broadcasts, the Great Depression, Prohibition and Babe Ruth. Some good stories about the good ole days.

  21. Really? SDSU beats the Thunderbirds and you have SUU ahead of them? ???

By one point at home and Southern Utah going for two and the win. A lot of time left for things to work themselves out.
