  1. Don't even try to compare attendance with NDSU. 5000 to 12000

Take Rob Morris, play them 3-4 times in the two years prior, including the opener that season. Beat them by 40+ each time. Put the game on statewide TV. And than figure what your attendance would have been. That was what Winnona was for us that year.

It may have been slightly more than 5,000 but I guarantee it wouldn't have been 12,000. I'm glad you finally admit that the weekend and opponent really does make a difference. If it makes a difference if its your 1st playoff game ever in the dome, imagine it being a common opponent when you were making the playoffs every year like UND was at the time.

  2. We'll have a sell out and by the way 12,000 for the Thanksgiving weekend was the best in the FCS last year in the first round.

Still was well below your season average attendance. ndsu also probably had the highest regular season attendance average of all teams hosting playoff games last year. Wouldn't you have thought it would have been higher since it was the 1st ever playoff game in the Fargodome?

  3. Yes, recruiting is going great. When is the last time a ND kid that both schools recruited went to UND? Even this year with the playing field supposedly leveled with the Big Sky coming next year and the transition over, the top two ND kids have verbaled to NDSU. For being the "Flagship" school in ND, UND sure seems to have trouble getting the best ND kids in their program.

I love ndsu recruiting logic. Always brings a smile to my face. I hope you don't think the OL from Kindred was one of the top players in the state. He's good, but not even the best OL in North Dakota.

  4. I'm not sure about that. IMHO, the "die-hard" fans will want to be at the game. 12K last season (for me) was a disappointing number in Fargo, but it was a pretty rowdy crowd without the corpie, texting, smartphone type fans. In looking at the numbers and other expectations of other schools though, 12K was actually a decent number.

So with Winona State...would you rather have 5K "Sioux Fans" or 8K with 3K who are just bored at home? It's an interesting debate in playoff football regarding attendance.

Thanksgiving weekend is a tough weekend on attendance. Teams don't draw well the way it is, factor the fact that we had beat Winona by 40 the 3 games we played them previously along with the game being televised and its tough to sell tickets. The 2nd and 3rd rounds will be better and I'd imagine the fargodome will be sold out, or very close, for those games.

  5. The Bison team that showed up the last two weeks will not be going to Frisco. Our once very deep team is suddenly thin in some key areas. Our QB is struggling with turf toe and his play has dropped off. Thankfully we have a week to heal up and if we can start playing the caliber of football we had mid-season the Bison will have an excelent chance to go all the way. I'm glad Montana is on the other half of the bracket cuz they are playing the best football in the FCS going in to post season play. I have a feeling they are going to steamroll the top half of the bracket and play either Georgia Southern or NDSU for the title.

Staying healthy definately factors into not only the regular season but definately the playoffs. This year we had an offense that was pretty banged up all year and lost our second best defensive linemen with a handfull of games left. For us it may have been a blessing as it gave 3 other o-linemen and a few WRs some valuable playing time to build some depth for next year.

  6. My only complaint with the field is Ill State didn't get in. They are one team I wouldn't like to play again. They beat USD 28-3 and only allowing them 108 total yards. There D is really good and quick. Other than that I think JMU is going to be a challange, with the qb back and nothing to lose they could be hard to beat.

Illinois St beat 2 FCS teams with a winning record, USD who was 3-5 vs. FBS or FCS and Indiana St. who finished 6-5. They lost to Eastern Illinois. I don't think them being left out was a suprise after they lost to UNI at home.

  7. If the playoffs would have started after the UNI game, I would have really liked NDSU's chances, but we just haven't played well the last two weeks. That being said, maybe the bye week is what the Bison need and we can get on a roll.

NDSU wasn't playing real well last year heading into the playoffs either and strung some games together. The physical ground game played in the midwest is tough for some teams to match up with. Along with earning home field and ndsu will be tough to beat.

  8. You guys are both correct and I apologize. I forgot about Casey. Both are taller WRs who will fit in nicely with what we have returning. I couldn't help but be very impressed with Irey over the last couple games. He started slow but really showed why he had high expectations coming into the year. Kid is a good player.

I also really liked the 3-4 WR sets and hurry up we ran in the 4th quarter and wouldn't mind seeing that as our offense next year. We could run 3 WR with Wistoff as a wingback and motion him into the backfield to change formation. Could still run out of that formation or motion our quicker backs out of the backfield and throw those 5-10 yard routes we chewed up USD with in the 4th. Our offense looked comfortable running that set.

  9. There were but I am not sure how many. Perham guys were there. Great came for recruits. Crowd that was there was loud and a fun game to watch. You almost gotta think Coach Murphy dropped "a bit o' the luck o' the Irish" on Fighting Sioux FB yesterday.

I believe there were 15-20. Not sure who but they saw a good game. Hopefully Woods from Bemidji was in attendance and saw an offense that throws the ball and see's he would be a great fit. He'd be a nice player to have with Molberg for four years. I had a chance to watch their semi-final game on TV and that kid is impressive. He'd fit in nicely with the young, athletic WR corps we have.

  10. Any idea which freshman redshirts might contribute next season?

I see Jameer Jackson fitting in nicely with the WRs. He's a bigger more physical player that almost had his redshirt pulled this year. I'm also interested to see how the redshirt OLine and the DBs contribute. Our o-line will be very good next year but from what I've been told we had one of our better recruiting classes in a long time there. Also, some very athletic kids redshirted in the secondary, a few of them almost getting thier shirts pulled. Hoping for a good winter workout and spring ball for some of these kids cause that was a question mark this year and will be a very large one next season.

  11. If he was a true 3 star there'd be a ton of schools after him. Right in UNI and SIU backyard and no interest?

Last year it was kids were getting stars cause they were in California. Now its they are getting stars cause they are in the midwest?

  12. Yes, our board is low in numbers and traffic but it is slowly building. I believe the reason for the registration requirement is as follows. Previously, anyone could read the board AND POST without registration. Because of that we had plenty of drive by trolls. The only way to stop this was to close the board and require registration. The board software didn't allow register to post and non register to browse.

I'd rather have the drive by variety than the ones that stick around with different user names.

  13. The team is 7-3, has a shot at a share of the last GWC title, last game of the transition and the last game with USD for the near future. And I am sure there will be plenty of potential recruits in the stands for this one. Time for us as fans to step up, fill the Al, create an amazing gameday atmosphere and help the team finish the transition on a high point! Hopefully the athletic department turns the marketing machine on high for this one.

And students: get to the game and stay at the game!

Welll said Dan. Lots of high school seasons are over and this will be a good weekend to get potential recruits to the Al. Lets create an atmosphere and send these seniors out in style. These are the kids that came to UND knowing they would never have an opportunity for the playoffs. They deserve it.

  14. come talk to us native americans when you actually have a big win in football since we dont skate.

in the meantime, you will be cellar dweller's in big cloudy for years to come.

Just a classy post. Keep trolling.

  15. The team has everything to play for next weekend. We need to get out and support them better than the last few home games. Great game today by the defense and some key plays by a pretty banged up offense. Had a few guys step up today and make some plays when they had too.

    1. NDSU just got a verbal tonight from a back from Milwaukee (Marcus Horne). He had offers from all but 2 of the MAC teams and was starting to get strong interest from several Big Ten schools. Had 3 Preferred walk on offers from the Big Ten. He was apparently at the UNI game this weekend and verballed right after the game. I saw several recruits on the field before the game. If a recruit visits the Fargodome on a game day and the Alerus on a game day, which do you suppose he will be more impressed with?

Is it a habbit for ndsu coaches or media to write stories on players committing when they haven't? According to Dom Izzo this kid didn't commit last week. First Molberg, now this kid, might want to follow up before you come here posting this stuff. Thanks for taking the time to post about a kid who didn't commit to ndsu on the UND recruiting thread.

  16. Guys, I appreciate the spirit, but your football program will never be as good as NDSU's. Simply, you care too much about hockey to have the will to do what is needed. Best case is you will be a middle of the road Sky school.

Really, not intended as a slam, but this is the best you can hope for.

    "classless programs like NDSU"......really?

I don't come over here too much cus UND/NDSU references become a "pissing" match. But this statement is total bunk....period!

    Enough said.
