  1. I found this on Fletcher- http://www.azcentral...011.html?page=2

He looks like a WR but are we possibly bringing him in at safety? Rated the tenth best DB in Arizona. If you look at the safety's we were recruitinng:

    -Charles Elmore- SDSU

    -Brandon Hathaway- Tennessee Tech

-Sam Folz- walkon U of Nebraska

Ben Holcomb- walkon U of Minnesota

I don't think all these guys were the same safety position but by the looks of it the coaches were targeting some pretty high end safety recruits.

  2. Three scholarships to WRs really surprises me especially when it appears we already have some good ones on the roster (including redshirts Jackson and Young). Does anyone know if all these receivers are back on campus this semester? I wonder if we had a couple disappear on us.

Interesting point. We graduated two so three isn't too much of a stretch, especially if the coaches saw talent they couldn't pass up. Fletcher was someone we had offered very early so I'm guessing we had him very high on our list.

  3. I have heard UND people say things like this for years, but am curious about the real impact that would have on a football recruit. I can say personally that I wouldn't be impressed by the atmosphere of a different sport than the one I was being recruited to play.

Does bringing football recruits to hockey games have a major effect on the player's decision?

Edit: When I was on visits to UND the ralph was just being built, we spent more time looking at the weightroom and training facilities at the Ralph than the one we would actually be using. The smart recruits on the visits with me realized this was only to hide the lack in football facilities and it actually turned some of us off.

Check your own board and people saying how great it was having recruits at the ndsu vs. sdsu basketball game last night. Obviously the recruits know they aren't playing in the Ralph, but it is an event to bring the recruits to. As far was the weight room, UND doesn't share their football weightroom with anyone. It is unique in that sense. We have the same equipment as what ndsu has in the BSA. It may not be as large as the BSA but it doesn't have to be when it belongs to only one team, records on the wall, locker room and film rooms right in the same building. The teams who dominated the bison for years lifted there so I have no doubt the weights are just as heavy as what they are lifting in Fargo.

  4. I think the coaches have done a very nice job recruiting so far. I'd still like to us start to recruit bigger strong side outside lb's. I think that is one position of our 3-4 that would be nice to address moving forward in the Big Sky. Last year, if I remember correctly, the last recruiting weekend of the year was a big one for us. We brought in a lot of out of area kids. I'm guessing with the Badgers coming to town and the atmosphere at the Ralph, this again could be a good final weekend for visits.

  5. Reading articles he appeared to break his collarbone in preseason and his team thought he was going to miss the entire season. He worked with the trainer for the Hawkeyes and made it back. When he came back, his was .500, they went on something like a 5 or 6 game winning streak. Missing time could be the reason he was overlooked, I have no idea. There is also a story from either end of Dec. or January that talked about how his recruiting was picking up. It was another article that required a membership so I don't know by who. I'd imagine we're looking at him as corner or maybe safety??

  6. Just call them free, its not like UND's hockey ticket thing where they make the students pay extra...which is a load of crap by the way. Oh, and using a seniority system instead of first come-first served is absolutely archaic and ridiculous as well.

Thanks for your input. Its noted. When there stops being students who get turned away for tickets, we'll take a look at your recommendations.

  7. Assuming all of our curent reported commitments sign, I'mstill hoping to see a few OL added. We have done a pretty good job at building some depth (2 injuries last year), but I would like to see more added. We know Mussman can coach O-linemen so I'd like to see a Lauer or similar talents commit to add to that line.

  8. Frank isn't exactly eloquent but he is passionate about how he feels. He does mix fact with fiction. I hope he wasn't insinuating that Tom Clifford would support this latest petition. I doubt that he would. He would likely support the Native Americans taking the NCAA to court. Frank has no factual basis to contradict what the Big Sky Commissioner said about UND's Big Sky affiliation being in jeopardy if we continue to remain sanctioned by the NCAA for the name. He forgets to comment on not being able to play the Gophers or Badgers in hockey anymore and now that might harm recruiting. He rambles on quite a bit and at times it is tough to hang in and listen but he is correct about the majority of Native Americans that have voted or been polled showing support for the name. That has always been the case. He doesn't explain where he has been the last 20 years when we could all see this coming including his warning from Tom Clifford, and not having been leading the charge to get support from the two reservations. To blame UND officials who weren't here when this came down is irrelevant. All of what Frank wants to happen can still occur without the stupid petition. Legislation will cause problems for UND and UND athletics just like last time and just like this goofy 3 year cooling off period. Frank needed to have a taped interview with the Big Sky Commissioner to prove what he claims is true. He also needs to have a discussion with Faison and Hakstol about the loss of the Gophers and Badgers on our future schedules. Too many threats to our future to buy into his rhetoric but give him credit for his passion.

    Well said Ira

  9. Kenny Golladay looks the part. Lets hope he's another great wide receiver recruit for us. It'll be interesting to see the offense evolve with the young talent and qb and wr. I wonder if we'll spread it out a bit more to use Ivery, McGill, Barientos, Jackson, Young, Bridges, and Adler to their full potential.

You forgot Hardin. I think if our qb play allows us, we will throw it around next year. I'm hoping either Young or Jackson (or both) fill that bigger, more physical WR role to compelent our other guys. Even though all have proven they won't shy away from crossing the middle.

  10. Agree completely, last night UND played team basketball. I wonder if that is not part of the inconsistency where when we start to play a little to much indivdual, one on one we don't play well. Last night we moved the ball, gave the guys with the hot hand the ball and everyone contributed on defense. It was fun to watch. It was a great win for the program and being on statewide TV it gave each program a chance to show how they match up head to head.

  11. Tough pill to swallow. Watching the UND students rush the court was a bit odd but hey, shows the rivalry is alive and well which is nice. Both teams looked atrocious the entire game. Congrats to UND on winning, and shame on my guys for not performing well enough to get the job done. Hopefully it wakes them up that they aren't talented enough to sleepwalk through games. Couple things I noticed (too lazy to read through all the posts, sorry for any repeats).

A group of ndsu students was sitting in the row in front of us in the upperdeck and they went down to the lower level with a couple minutes left to as the put it "take the court after we win". There would have been ndsu students on the floor if you could have pulled it out, would that have been as odd to you?

  12. no just a couple of trolls . und is good at home. of course we hate to lose but there is no shame losing a close game on the road. obviously both teams suck on the road. our season is still ok. you guys are actually pretty good. it was a big game for both but bigger for you guys the coach called it the biggest win in a decade

Your players didn't play like this game was bigger for us. They played with emotion and had a reaction after every big shot they hit. Saul didn't act like this game was bigger for UND. Its a lame excuse. NDSU has some good big guys inside and #3 or #4 can shoot it, can't remember his name but kid can shoot. It was a great win for UND and I was proud to be there to watch. Nice work fellas!!!! First volleyball, now mens hoops.

  13. Yeah losing to SDSU by 38 was a high water mark. If you played on a neutral court SDSU would beat you 9 out of 10. Count on it.

We played a home and home and split. Your basing your thoughts on a "what if". I'm basing mine on results that happened when the teams actually played.

  14. It boils down to which NDSU team show up. If both teams bring their best, it is still a double digit NDSU win. If NDSU doesn't show up, UND has a shot. It means a lot more to UND than NDSU. If you were to tell Brian Jones UND could win one more game this season he would pick this one. If you told Saul Philips NDSU could win one more game this WEEK, he would say SDSU on Saturday.

Guess what my opinion of ndsu and the Summit league will be if UND wins tonight and ndsu goes on to win the Summit league championship? We already beat SDSU at home so I guess we crossed that one off our list. With this game being on statewide TV, the perception of each program will be affected by the outcome of this game. Compare tonights game to the volleyball season. Even though you made the national tournament, there wasn't much doubt about which school had the better team.

  15. It appears that Sam Foltz is going to walk on at Nebraska. His profile now has him with high interest in Nebraska and no interest anywhere. Not sure if he'll still take the visit up here next weekend or not.

That will be an interesting one to follow. Kid appeared to have pretty good size and speed for a safety.

  16. You Bison fans think it's all about the DI Power Rankings for Men's Basketball. Choice of a conference is more than that. It's about where you are and where you want to go. The Big Sky Conference has schools like Montana and Montana State, which are the big attraction in their respective towns. Who the heck cares about UMKC in KC? If you guys want to be a "big time, mid-major" program, you should pull every trick out of the book to get into the Missouri Valley Conference sometime in the future.

I hate to tell you this, but the Scummit won't get you where you want to go. If the champion of your conference can make a run in March and win a couple of games, I will give the Summit League props. Until then, they remain a average, run-of-the-mill conference.

Thsi arguement gets old. Lets face it. Summit and Big Sky are equal as basketball is concerned and will flip flop in whatever rankings you want to look at from year to year. Both conferences have their good teams and both have their dogs. UND has beaten and lost to both from each conference. I'd like to see the UND team that beat the top teams from each conference show up tomorrow night.
