  1. Okay, that's just a silly argument.

Number of conferences UND will be in after Big Sky: 5 (NCHC, Big Sky, swimming & diving, baseball, men's golf)

Number of conferences UND would be in after Summit: 3 (NCHC, Summit, football)

From a commonality perspective, the Summit is a much better fit than the Big Sky. Go ahead and use other arguments to support Big Sky over Summit, but not that one. Personally, I think UND would be better off in the Summit in the long-term, but you guys are now locked into the Big Sky so it's a moot point and not worth rehashing all the pros and cons.

How many people show up to watch swimming & diving, golf or baseball anyways? Not many. It wouldn't matter if we were in the Big10, no one is showing up to watch golf or S&D or baseball in March or April.

When getting into a new conference I'll take common opponents for football, mens and womens basketball and volleyball. Having that and being able to schedule NCC 2.0 as nonconference cannot be spun into a bad thing. Hockey has always been in its own conference and has established itself with those opponents and is doing just fine where its at.

  2. I don't think the winner of the Great West should be automatically ranked no. I think we can look at each conference on a year to year basis and determine if the quality of play within the conference is at a high enough level to warrant a certain ranking.

Last year, no, and believe it or not it has nothing to do with my opinion on UND. There were no playoff teams out of the Great West last year, even if UND and USD were eligible they still wouldn't have made the playoffs. So, no, I don't think that last year the Great West was playing football at a high level.

Again, pick a school ranked 20 or below and in my opinion they don't walk through the GreatWest. Was the winner of the conference last year a top 15 team? Absolutely not, no one on this board is saying they were. However, I would feel pretty confident with UND or Cal Poly facing any of those teams 16 and lower. They wouldn't win them all, but I feel they would win more than they would lose.

  3. You people continue to amaze me. Must be a North Dakotat thing. Here we got some "good" players coming in, that we never seen play, and we feel it's necessary to just make it seem like our starters have this huge task to compete with these guys. I'm hoping these guys are good to help assist the starters, but let's not for one second this group will over shadow the starters. They will add to our success how about that instead

I don't think one of the players coming in necessarily has to be a better player than one of the starters to get the nod. If they can come in and play better within the system and make those around them better, the overall quality of play of the 5 on the floor will increase. Even if the overall talent level isn't as high. Bottom line is we will have to wait until the season starts to see how good these players truely are and how it affects the lineup.

  4. This whole issue started when NDSU moved down in the rankings and UND moved up in the rankings due to an obvious mix up between the 2 teams from North Dakota. That is why USD isn't being brought up. No one voted for USD because they confused them with NDSU. For me, it wasn't an issue of what UND was ranked. It was an issue of NDSU moving down. UND's moving up at the same time just showed the reason that NDSU dropped, so obviously UND will get brought up. In the end it didn't matter, but if we would've still been ranked 6 at the end of the season, the playoffs could've been completely different.

I believe the reason that NDSU fans are talking about it now is because last year, UND fans claimed that there was no way voters could've confused the 2 schools, and that UND deserved to move up in the rankings after a loss to an FBS team and NDSU deserved to move down after a bye. Obviously if people within the NCAA can confuse the two schools and send the banner to the wrong location, the voters could too. Honestly, I could care less where UND was ranked. I think NDSU fans are just trying to get UND fans to admit there was a mix up in the polls in the beginning of last season, and that's not necessarily because it's UND. I believe it's simply because it's nice to prove people wrong, which is what this banner issue has done. Again, I could care less where UND was ranked. NDSU won the national championship and that's all that matters. Whether the UND fans want to admit they were wrong or not is up to them, but I believe this banner situation has given plenty of proof to back the theories of the NDSU fans at the beginning of last season.

Have Kolpack, Boll and company got anyone to admit they made a mistake? Just curious cause I'm sure they called every voter. They have had 10 months.

  5. You can think whatever you would like to about my motives, but go ahead and check the resumes of the teams ranked 24-18 at the end of last year. UND doesn't match up at all.

24-18 gets you a number of playoff teams or teams that at least beat a playoff team. UND didn't even play a playoff team.

Do you feel the winner of the Great West should be ranked or do you feel winning the Great West is not a big accomplishment? I don't think some of those teams ranked 18 and below would have walked through the Great West like you like to assume.

  6. Are you of the opinion that with UND's record and schedule that UND deserved to be in the top 25? If you are admitting that UND most likely cracked the top 25 due to a mistake then the rest of the season is skewed and you know it. Pollsters tend to not move a team very far unless they have a dramatic win or loss. I couldn't care less from NDSU's standpoint I am just saying from my perspective that's how poll voting works at the 15-25 range. Nobody pays a whole lot of attention and will just look at where they were last week and if they didn't do anything earth shattering won't move a team very far either way.

    http://www.fightings...0&Q_SEASON=2011

I am all for giving credit where credit is due, but if you say that after the fresno state game it was likely a mistake to put UND in the top 25, tell me where in the rest of the season UND proved they should be there? Southern Utah is the only impressive win on the schedule.

I'd say that the Great West champion, even though its a 5 team league, should be ranked in the 15-25 range if they have a winning record. Unless you want to downplay winning the Great West.

  7. the instability of the summit is way over blown. ndsu, sdsu, usd, uno, umkc and w.ill aren't going anywhere. If UND were hypothetically in that group, you have a stable conference, with pretty good athletics across the board.. Oakland and the indiana schools likely aren't going anywhere, and the summit was almost a two bid league in basketball last year. Had ORU not fled to easier basketball confines it would be a very good league, much better than the big sky.

If UND has the opportunity for to join a football conference in the midwest, they should absolutely jump at it.

The instability of the Summit is not overblown, it has been proven time and time again. There is a good chance Oakland is gone, they would jump at a invite the Horizon league. And would you like a pat on the back for the Summit "almost" being a two bid league? With ORU leaving and Oakland half way out the door, the attractivenes of the Summit isn't there for me. I'll take the stability of the Big Sky the common oppenents for all sports and the extra travel that goes along with it.

  8. I arrived in this thread with it already under discussion by other people. But yes please blame me for bringing it up.

edit: as far as i can tell it is mentioned or discussed nowhere on bville.

See post 131 of this thread. Kolpack was back on the radio 2 days ago. 10 months later and its still a discussion. I'm not blaming you for bringing it up, I'm laughing at you trying to use "how you think" UND fans would handle a similar situation to how ndsu fans, media and coaches actually handled it.

  9. it seems to come up here more than anywhere else. If the positions were reversed, i think we all know that this place would go rabid, and would never let it drop ever. The NDSU/UND rivalry seems to be much deeper on the grand forks side. Alot of it comes to downright bitterness of NDSU/fargo's success over the past decade. It hurts to see 'little brother' catch up, and in some ways surpass UND.

This was restarted with Kolpack on the radio talking about it again. We find it funny. You NDSU fans and Kolpack have now spent 10 months worrying about UNDs ranking in week 3 of a nat'l championship season. But carry on trying to drag UND fans into this and tell us how we would handle it, its giving me a good laugh.

  10. Not saying there is anything wrong with having high expectations, but to expect what in reality amounts to 8-3 with that schedule is pretty lofty IMO.

I understand that. As I said, I feel like our qb play will be better next year and that will help our offense tremendously. If our young secondary improves, I feel 7-3 isn't out of the question. I'm not expecting a sub .500 season with this team. Nothing wrong wih lofty expectations, I feel the team and the coaches are up for that.

  11. My expectations are 7-3 (I'm not counting Mines).

    • 5 wins (Sac. St, Cal-Poly, Northern AZ, Southern Utah, & Northern Colo.).
    • 2 games that could go either way (Portland St., Montana)
    • 3 games were we will have to play mistake free football to win (Eastern Wash., Mont. St., & San Diego St.)

Win the 5 listed at the top, split the middle two and sneak a win out of the last 3 and we're sitting at 7-3 and in the playoffs. Obviously staying healthy will be key but our secondary needs to improve and our qb play needs to be consistent. I'm expecting 7-3, 6-4 would be disappointing, especially with the Mines game as a non counter.

  12. Can you re-write history just a little more please? It would not have died a long time ago since Al was not that long ago. Everyone here was cheering on Al at the time.

And those that were cheering changed their tune after Al's 15 minute meeting with the NCAA. It was at that time that most understood the NCAA wasn't budging and those that were cheering started to prepare for the retirement. Everyone of those people who made the trip to Indy understood this after that meeting, some were just a little more vocal than others. There is nothing wrong with changing your opinion on something as the situation changes.

  13. Oh it all adds up.....

What do you mean? Faison called the NCAA and got them to mail the banner to UND. That's why the letter was addressed to him and not Gene Taylor. Its the only explanation. How else would the NCAA confuse UND and ndsu?

  14. Had that been a UND banner which had arrived in Fargo, I can assure you that the result would have been No media stories, and quiet re-shipment. Just a different mode of operation and a different level of professionalism that seems to surface again and again.

Right, your media and coaches spent a month interviewing everyone who votes in the poll when UND was ranked trying to prove everyone who voted made a mistake. That has professionalism written all over it.

  15. Better to point out arrogance and inaccuracies and be called a troll that be a ass kisser!

You tried calling Faison classless without knowing facts to the situation and were completely wrong. I'd say that is as classless as it gets.

  16. It amazes me what thin-skinned little crybabies some of you are over the things that I post. I'm a straight shooter, I'll tell you exactly how I feel and if you don't like it I don't care. I'm seething with anger over the fact that you "YES" voters and the spinless UND administration took my team away from me. I am here to vent that anger and I will decide when it is time for me to stop posting, not you. Spare me your snarky little snotty attitude and accept the fact that somebody has an opinion that is not an exact carbon copy of yours. :glare:

PS - Why should I do a favor to people that have been nothing but rude to me?

I was being a straight shooter with you when I wrote my post. You have made it perfectly clear that you are a fan of the nickname only. Its gone so you should move on. I see you no different than other posters who aren't fans of the Unversity of North Dakota. You are a troll only here to stir the pot. Go back and read your posts from the last 6 months, its clear what you are a fan of.

  17. The REAL Sioux fans are the ones like me who will not support a UND team by any other name. Those of you who jump on the bandwagon of the new UND team are not real fans, you're just homers like those former Cardinals fans who now cheer for the Rams in St. Louis.

Do us a favor and stop posting here too. Your not a fan of the school anymore so unless your trolling, you have no reason to post. Bye.

  18. roll over is all these guys want to do

It will be interesting how UND & people like 82 have alienated a couple generations of Fighting Sioux Fans & they will lose many of those Fans

There have been plenty of schools that have changed their nickname and haven't lost "many" of their fans. There are examples all across the country but there is an example right in Dickinson. When they changed their name from the Savages to the Bluehawks people weren't happy about it but the strongest group of supporters are those that were there when the name change took place and the generation before and after. People still attend games. Again, you have no facts to back your claims.

  19. You can't handle any oppostion to your views can you. I am not talking with the NCAA, I am dealing with you and you stopped, took a breath, and actually read the post, before you respond we could have a better conversation. I will wait now for Homer and the BIZ grammar police to read my post and correct any errors. And if you have shy bladders you can send my an email.

The coaches who's lively hood is affected by the ramifications of keeping the nickname have come out and are now in agreement it is time to change it. How about we start the conversation there? They are closer to the situation than you, I or anyone else on this board. Are they excited to change it? No. Do they understand what it is necessary to get their programs to the next level or keep their programs at the highest level? Yes. They can back up their stance with facts. I'll wait for you to give your facts that support why the name should stay.

  20. To 82 SiouxGuy, Sicatoka, and fightingsioux4life. Thank you for proving my point. 82 SiouxGuy adds his own spin to what others have said, and then comments on it. Sicatoka is a drama mama. Fightingsioux4life has nothing to offer but think he is talking big. You have proven that you are all minions who follow along and lack the ability to think freely. I have heard it all from UND how they have lost this and that and they will lose this and that, but when pressed for specifics they have nothing. The post season for UND athletics was not affected in any sport by the sanctions. It is scare tactics by the Three Amigos, Fiason, Kelley, and Okeefe. The moniker issue is a stand and fight situation and if you don't see that, well that is on you.

You might want to revisit the facts before posting. How many more specifics do you want? Thanks for posting, might want to read up on the facts before posting.
