  1. Nagy just made it to the Dance for the first time. He has not been that successful until this season. I do not know if his salary changed after that or not.

I thought it was a fine article, all he did was pointed out the lower salaries.

I may be wrong but I believe SDSU's contracts are one year deals that are renewed yearly so as I said above, your comparing the yearly salary of a coach who just made it through transition to a coach who led his team to NCAA tournament.

  2. Darell just admit it both Muss and Jones are on the bubble this year. IMO

I wouldn't say on the bubble but a I mentioned above, both coaches have already noted that they have to prove themselves. They have had the opportunity to build their programs for this year and next. That has also been stated many times on this board. Really not a secret Danno.

Also, I didn't note that Jones was 2-1 last year against those other higher paid coaches in the article.

  3. For all you delusional people women's hockey is the golden goose. There happy?

No one is delusional, I would expect the same response from any bison fan if I just started throwing out claims without any numbers to back it.

  4. everyone who goes to the ndsu/und game should buy through ndsu . That way we can take away tickets from the bison fans and produce more sioux fans at the game.

I'll just wait until they give tickets away at Stop N Go when I fill my car.

  5. Personally, I thought Mussman to replace Lennon was a shaky choice. I didn't like what I saw out of Muss' first couple teams.

But the last couple season have shown me some key things:

    • He's building a team.
    • More importantly, he's grown as a coach.

I'm pretty sure neither of his first two teams could've or would've come back against USD like his team last year did. That takes coaching and it takes a team that's starting to believe in itself.

With that he's on a good path and needs to keep growing his team, his staff, and himself as a coach.

Well said Sic. I agree with everything you said. Mussman and the staff have come a long way and I think finally understood the last couple years that they needed to improve as much as the team did. Mussman has admitted as much and that says a lot about him as a coach and his players have responded to that. I have heard as well that the players like him because of the fact he is always straight forward with them and they know exactly what position they are in. No sugarcoating.

  6. Buy or sell Mussmans extension being a positive in recruiting

Buy- I'm hoping this year he performs as well on the field as he has done recruiting off it. This should be a good year for recruiting with being playoff elgible, being in an well known conference with some great venues to pitch to recruits, the nickname being gone and not used against the program, and extension to let recruits know that the coach will be around awhile if he performs and the all black uniforms this year with replacements for others in the works. Get that IPF done and UND football is in a good spot.

The staff has done very good recruiting with every year being better than the last on paper and kids producing on the field. The above should help that tremendously.

  7. That's the trouble with you guys you think money is the real key to success. Money is only one ingredient in the mix.

But kind of an important one when it comes to college athletics. What are the others?

    • TV contract- Check
    • Solid conference- Check
    • Program tradition- Check
    • Getting through transition and nickname figured out- Check
    • Facilities- With the addition of the IPC (Check)
    • Coaching- The staff has been improving on the field, has done well recruiting off the field
    • Competitive schedule- Check (minus the SDSoM game, its tough to not look at the home games the next 3 years and not be excited)

  8. you realize that the is the only reason that the big sky is 'stable', right? It's a bunch of medicore schools with football who either don't want to be (UM) or can't be (everyone else) FBS. with potential 15 football members soon, THE BSC looks pretty rickety.

Don't worry the Summit will be stable when its NCC 2.0 and when the MVC gets ready to expand, SDSU and USD will make great partners with one another for the jump. NDSU is no longer joined with anyone at the hip and has no travel partner either.

  9. Bresciani was protecting UND??? Why? Did he want UND to someday join the league? Or did he want to keep a civil friendship with the other DI school in the state? Does anyone know what kind of relationship Bresciani and Kelley have? 2 presidents that weren't there when NDSU moved up. So I wouldn't think it would be that rocky.

I don't know what type of relationship they have but Bresciani has always come across as a first rate guy. He has stood up for what he feels is best for ndsu and has done a good job there. He has been a good president and I don't see any reason not to believe him. The only people who believed Douple when everything came out were the few bison fans on this site and Star. Everyone else was in the same belief as bin's quote a couple above this one.

  10. As long as the Summit League has a good Men's Basketball RPI Rating (which, according to the NDSU-ites, is all that really matters), why shouldn't they be happy?!?! ;)

But don't forget that it can't be difficult to get the AQ. If its too difficult and the competition is to much, that is seen as a negative by a few of their fans as well.

  11. You guys are probably in for a really rude awakening this season.

I say this because I have been reading the delusion on this board for awhile and its really starting to look like the MSU website every year.

This isnt smack but sometimes the truth hurts a bit so brace your self here it is.

UND will lose at least 6 games this year:

    Portland St

    San Diego St

    Eastern Washington

    Montana

    Montana St

    Southern Utah

and a very real possibility of losing to Cal Poly and Sac St

These teams are proven at this level and are returning a ton of talent, its just not a good year to be breaking into a new conference with what you guys have coming back.

Now if you want a real debate, please criticize my comments with facts and stats. I realize most of you will take the easy way out and start calling for me to be banned, call me a troll and evade facts and debate like a modest Kardashian

We can have a decent conversation or a cyber slugfest its up to you.

The fun part is that we get to find out for sure in a couple months. I do know that the UND team you will be seeing this year is much better than the team that visited Missoula a couple years ago. I'm sure it all depends on how much the feds decide to get involved with all the rape incidents your team has been involved with if you can confidently say the same.

  12. While that would be great for UND if the guy decided to donate a lot of money to them, is he even a donor to UND athletics in the first place?

I also don't see any reason for UND to be working on an alum to make donations. The Alerus is an above average (albeit no FargoDome) place to play football. I don't know why you would feel the need to be planning for a new venue barely 10 years after getting the Alerus.

The bolded portion is pretty funny. That is what universities do, including your own. If the opportunity is there to plan ahead why wouldn't you do it. And yes, he is a current donor who has shown interest in donating a large sum for a specifc purpose.

  13. Honesty hurt much? He simply pointed out that UND probably honestly worth having ranked last year based on the victories they had considering who they played against. Anytime UND played a good team, they lost.

Yourself, Kolpack, Bohl and all the other fans should take that arguement to the people who vote in the polls. I've yet to see them point out any voter who has agreed with their (your) arguement. All they/you have done is take it to the radio and message boards and whine about it. The truth hurts that UND was ranked and your media, coaches and fan base is looking pretty silly trying to come up with every excuse why 10 months later.

  14. Have you guys thought of how hard it's going to be the AQ with 13 teams? You're not going to get 2 teams in for anything but FB.

Serious question cause I don't know the answer- When is the last time the representative from the Summit league was seeded 4th or lower entering the tourney? How about 6th or lower?

  15. I was simply clarifying. The statement that was made appeared to contradict itself. I'm not saying UND didn't deserve to be ranked by the end of the season. I was simply saying that when they got into the top 25, they did not get in because of their record at that time. They got in, likely due to a mix up between voters. I'm sorry if you can't handle a Bison fan coming in and correcting a statement that appeared to be incorrect. I will refrain from doing so in the future, and let the UND fans deceive the others reading that do not know the background of the situation. He did have a very good analysis of the situation, and I do appreciate the fact that he accepts there was a mistake in the polls.

Was it likely thats why they got in or was that why they got in? I've heard nothing that says otherwise. Who's trying to deceive others?

  16. I'll make my point one more time then I'll be done, because the conversation is getting circular. I watched every playoff team last year, based on what I saw and where they ended up in the rankings, I am not sure what to base my opinion on other than what my eyes saw, but I don't think UND was on the same level as ANY of the playoff teams last year. I feel like UND's record was vastly inflated due to the strength of schedule. I also believe there are many UND fans who feel the same way and know that UND had some serious weaknesses last year.

Lastly, 7 wins doesn't necessarily get you into the playoffs. This will be even more true in the future with the playoffs expanding, there will be many 7 win teams sitting home in December.

So are you basing your opinion on what your eyes saw or UND's record? I think Tennessee Tech, Stoney Brook, Harvard and Jackson St.'s record were vastly inflated due to the strength of their conferences. Each of those conferences has 5-6 poor teams in them. A team with weaknesses could still win 5-6 games in those conferences.

  17. Huh? When playoffs expand, that means more 7 counter win teams will get in. I am predicting a 6 counter win team will get in next year when it goes to 24 teams. I believe all 7 counter win teams got in the playoffs this past year, correct? I guess I don't know about some awful conference like the MEAC but I am talking the Top 6 conferences.

I'm glad I didn't have to point that out.

  18. Not to nitpick, and maybe my link isn't correct, but I don't see Harvard or Liberty between 16-25. Ohio Valley definately isn't a top conference and the MEAC is very poor, but the SWAC doesn't participate in the playoffs.

Stony Brook was a damn good team last year, did you watch them play? I wouldn't guarantee a UND victory against Norfolk State. But I agree that conference is weak.

I failed to mention Tennessee Tech was also a playoff team last year.

My point isn't to diminish what UND accomplished. My point is that unless UND was a playoff caliber team last year, they shouldn't have been in the top 25 because 16-25 includes a lot of playoff teams.

They are there. 16 and 25 respectively. Again, key to the playoffs is 7 wins. A average team can be in a poor conference and play two easy nonconference and get to 7 wins.

  19. So even if you aren't saying it overtly, basically you are saying that you think UND or Cal Poly were playoff caliber teams last year.

    http://www.collegesp...top-25-rankings

Stony Brook, Norfolk St. and JMU were all playoff teams last year. You would feel pretty confident against them based on what?

Obviously UND or Cal Poly did not have enough wins to get into the playoffs last year. If UND, Cal Poly or even SUU were in the Ohio Valley, the Southwestern confernece or the MEAC I don't know how any wins they would have had. There are some pretty poor teams in those conferences and some easy victories. The key to the playoffs is 7 wins, thats it. And yes, those 3 teams teams you named are ranked between 16-25. So were Harvard, Jackson St and Liberty so whats your point.
